It's the strongest but not the deadliest. The SquareEnix devs isn't mean enough to give the unfriendly Yan an AOE Snort because no matter how strong you are (Lv. 99), 1 Snort and 1 of your character is out until the battle end 😅.

It's also raised by the spirit stat. Each time you level up, you earn fractions of stat points based on your equipment. By leveling up with the right gear you can push your spirit stat pretty hard. Making auto-regen heal even more.
More things I've never thought of. I guess I've literally never bothered to fight most of the "friendly enemies" because most of them just run away. Never knew the Yan would fight back! :)
A comment from the distant future: I grinded levels with the regular Yan's and they're equally as terrible to fight (and when you have more than 1 geez.) It made getting to level 99 pretty easy sailing though.
I beat this game start to finish 3+ times as a pre-teen. I learned of Dark Matter and got the ship eidolon and found out a couple other secrets but still to this day I am learning about secrets of this game….could be because i haven’t played it in 20 years but still- to have so many secrets is quite the feat. FFx also has many. I miss Square before they merged with Enix 😮💨
A side quest in this game Reuniting The Nero Brothers/Family was just discovered in the last few years I believe. Requiring the player to return to the Tantalus hideout in Lindblum 9 times, each trip after reaching a major event or boss in Memoria.

Seeing the comments made years ago I'm speaking for the new people coming in watching this!! In my opinion the reason they said friendly yan was the toughest boss fight and not Ozma is because friendly yan is the only one known to not be beaten without buffed up support abilities or with a level 1 party!! While Ozma has been proven to be beaten with a level 1 party and no buffed up support abilities but of course that was pure dumb luck and careful preparation for the Ozma fight!! Otherwise with a level 99 party and support abilities like Auto Haste and Auto Regen maximum spirit stat and fixed 9999 damaged attacks of course friendly yan is easier then Ozma seeing as Ozma can still wipe out your party even at level 99 and full preparation!! In my other opinion I do believe at max level friendly yan could be beaten without fixed damaged attacks it would take a lot longer and your best chance is Steiner with Excalibur 2 and Shock ability!! Doing it without buffed up support abilities add to boot could be possible but the reason nobody does it kuz friendly yan is too fast for all the characters normal or even maxed out speed plus all the potions hi potions remedies echo screens elixirs ethers basically all your heal items including the gems such as the peridot and ores would be swiped cleaned from your inventory!! And nobody wanna spend unnecessary Gil to restock lol although you could prove a point simply and just not save it afterwards!!

Not sure why Steiner is there. Quina's Frog Drop, Zidane's Thievery and Freya's Dragon's Crest offer unblockable damage at 9999 when you meet the criteria. Something I liked about the game is that you can put a lot of effort into powering up their moves and see enemies with powerful defences take a real batterring.
Friendly Yan is easy to defeat. You just have to have one healer and have on hitter. The hitter has to be someone who can deal absolute damage (freye - dragon crest, zidane - thievery, quail - frog drog, vivi - meteor, etc.), then the healer will just need to heal every turn. The other 2 can just be left to defend so that Yan won't counterattack to them.
Love the video. Dancing mad suits Friendly Yan well. And you show me I need to refine my leveling process. I still didn't get both 50 spirit AND so high of HP characters... I made sure to get at least 50 Spirit on everyone. But only have barely over 9,000 hp Steiner (with hp+10% and 20%). And I oddly got a good 5,700 HP and 50 Spirit Quina on a save file in which I got a few levels before end-game and optimal equipment, though I screwed up on my second attempt on which I thought I had better avoided experience, and ended up with a little faster of a Quina, 50 Spirit, but with less HP. I must've put Quina on power armlet and green beret and Dark matter a bit too late into leveling? (think I did Black Belt at some point, that might've done it). I don't know what I screwed up leveling. I made sure to at least get 50 Spr at least. Anyway, love this video. Reminds me of the ff8 Zell Omega Weapon solo video someone did playing a song that made me think of how Zell loved the Pupurun/Pururun books.
It's very interesting to know :). However, even Friendly Yan is stat-wise better, I don't think he is as difficult as Ozma. Yan's attack is purely physical while Ozma can do physical, magical and status attack to ALL members. Ozma can also annihilate a character in a single attack. Ozma's defense is not as high as Yan's but Curaga is damm annoying :P
that's the point of the weapon though. you can't expect to get everything easily. I'm attempting my first Excalibur II run now after years of playing this game. it's a fun endeavor and you should try it as well
I dont think that works o.O I have tried it before when I was young. I had over 100h playtime and it reseted to 0 but in red numbers. And I remember that I tried to visit that spot and couldnt get excalibur 2 lol
It takes much, much, much more than 100 hours. The displayed game clock may or may not roll over, can't remember, but that's irrelevant. The displayed game clock only counts to 100. But the internal game clock counts a 32 bit register without overflowing. That's equal to 4,294,967,295. But this is counted in "frames", which are 1/60th of a second. Do the math and you get a bit over 2 years. The display clock will lock up at 99:59:59 and then just stay there and change colors, but the internal game clock - which is never displayed to the player - is the one that has to roll over to give you a second chance at the Excal II. And that takes 4,294,967,295 frames, or about 2 and a quarter years.
I think the Auto-Regen/Auto-Potion skill combination made characters immortal. I don't remember ever dying when I equipped them, plus the HP Plus and auto life Abilities. I tried to use the same in FF8, FFX and FF12, but it never worked as effectively.
10 years later Actually with Auto Haste, Auto Regen, and Spirit maxed out at 50 the characters are practically immortal unless they get zombied or confused and end up critically hitting each other!! Maxed stats has its benefits! It's only downfall is literally if you get Zombied!! Nothing Magic Tag can't fix but in the end if your character is confused you pretty much are doomed!!
You're referring to the Cotton Robe trick. Yes, if you grab wrists from Dali and steepled hats from Atla's shop in Burmecia, then combine them in Lindblum, you can sell them for a profit.
Ozma is still easy af hahahah It cant oneshot me but i cant remember what I did cause it has been too long since I have played ff9. I just remembered that I killed it in a few hits because i always land 9999 hits xD

You are indeed correct, in final fantasy 9 float will increase damage meteor is likely to deal to you. Even at level 99 ozma can still trash you, even using the preferred return magic method since that requires him to use doomsday
I think the method I used was to max the limit break gauge before I entered the battle. And since every hit landed with 9999 damage I could take him down easily xD And with freiya on my side he couldnt do shit to her so she could always use jump
If you give him a diamond...well, he's the last of the Friendly Monsters side quest...and if you give him a diamond, Ozma's defenses DROP. A LOT. Plus Ozma becomes vulnerable to elemental attacks, if I recall right...
@NEroNeRoNerON basically alive, in this "hell" and the "devil" necron doesn't want that so he fights them so they would be dead. But they defeat him. And then he ends up basically telling them after the fight. "I do not die. You didn't kill me. You will still live, but I am not completely finished" Doesn't that make a little sense the way I see it. It came to me just now that it might kinda be this way, and that was the point.
garnet for haste. she's also excellent support for healing and protect,shell,esuna,etc. Freya can use Reiss wind and white draw.. if she's in danger or you dont need wind or white draw just jump... Vivi for attack. Steiner for attack. (or zidane for stealing) but I usually go straight for the kill
There's an island that's to the west of the Outer Continent, if I remember correctly...if you wander around in the forest there, you're bound to find the friendly Yan eventually.

Possible no auto-regen, no fixed damage attacks, no trance strategy for this fight: Auto-haste, Silence, HP+, MP+ abilities, party consists of Eiko, Garnet, Quina, and Zidane. Every turn Garnet and Eiko get, they cast curaga-all. Quina spams Twister and Zidane covers the rest of the healing and is generally just there as most of his attacks that could hit are fixed damage.
It's possible with proper planning, I believe. Stat growth is affected by bonuses on equipment. In other words, the higher your stats are boosted by your equipment, the more points you will gain in them when leveling up.
So, the other way of defeating it...would be having Garnet to summon Odin, with ‘‘Odin´s Sword’’ activated as skill and a lucky deathstrike; I could manage to get rid of 3 Yans in a single battle...one character standing at last.

I kinda look at it like the hill of despair is like hell or an underworld, and the necron is like the devil, but after they killed kuja he used ultima to destroy the crystal, memoria, and crystal world. And so they kinda go into a "hell" while they are still alive, because the others in the party gave them their enery and they are
FF9 was way too easy... sigh.. They should've expanded the battle system a bit and made monsters a lot stronger. Come on, party of 4, each can do 10k damage, and the highest HP boss is like 60k. 2 turns and boss is dead.... come onnn
FF9 should've had max damage of 99k. The Gaia world was fairly large as well. Should've had more "secret scary" monsters in certain areas. Kinda like FF7's Ruby Weapon and Omega. Game would've been much more fun.

try beating Yan without auto regen? there's always an item named Elixir :))) and if Yan's HP is 65535, 7 frog drops should do it since your FD damage is 9999.

My party I use Zidane/Freya/Quina/Steiner. - Auto-haste-Regen-potion-counter on everyone (when attacked by attack such as bahh by the time every character either counters or uses auto potion the auto-haste/Regen combo heaps ur entire party) - use mighty guard if u want - have maxed out Theivery, Dragon Crest, Frog Drop. And Steiner use Shock. Every hit does 9999 - have loudmouth so not silenced Doesn’t matter who u fight they will be dead within a couple minutes. Using triple speed in the remaster I defeated all bosses and super bosses towards the end of the game without casting cure and they died within 2-4 min.

The only thing I hated about ff9 is there is a time limit to get the Excalibur 2 such a pain in the ass means you need to rush the game.
Or leave it running for over 2 years and the game clock will roll over. Then you get a second chance for it. :)

that's the point of the weapon though. you can't expect to get everything easily. I'm attempting my first Excalibur II run now after years of playing this game. it's a fun endeavor and you should try it as well
I dont think that works o.O I have tried it before when I was young. I had over 100h playtime and it reseted to 0 but in red numbers. And I remember that I tried to visit that spot and couldnt get excalibur 2 lol
It takes much, much, much more than 100 hours. The displayed game clock may or may not roll over, can't remember, but that's irrelevant. The displayed game clock only counts to 100. But the internal game clock counts a 32 bit register without overflowing. That's equal to 4,294,967,295. But this is counted in "frames", which are 1/60th of a second. Do the math and you get a bit over 2 years.
The display clock will lock up at 99:59:59 and then just stay there and change colors, but the internal game clock - which is never displayed to the player - is the one that has to roll over to give you a second chance at the Excal II. And that takes 4,294,967,295 frames, or about 2 and a quarter years.
I think the Auto-Regen/Auto-Potion skill combination made characters immortal. I don't remember ever dying when I equipped them, plus the HP Plus and auto life Abilities. I tried to use the same in FF8, FFX and FF12, but it never worked as effectively.

Actually with Auto Haste, Auto Regen, and Spirit maxed out at 50 the characters are practically immortal unless they get zombied or confused and end up critically hitting each other!! Maxed stats has its benefits! It's only downfall is literally if you get Zombied!! Nothing Magic Tag can't fix but in the end if your character is confused you pretty much are doomed!!

You're referring to the Cotton Robe trick. Yes, if you grab wrists from Dali and steepled hats from Atla's shop in Burmecia, then combine them in Lindblum, you can sell them for a profit.
Stats are not why Ozma is harder, its because Ozma gets free turns to attack after your attacks.
Ozma is still easy af hahahah It cant oneshot me but i cant remember what I did cause it has been too long since I have played ff9. I just remembered that I killed it in a few hits because i always land 9999 hits xD

You are indeed correct, in final fantasy 9 float will increase damage meteor is likely to deal to you. Even at level 99 ozma can still trash you, even using the preferred return magic method since that requires him to use doomsday
I think the method I used was to max the limit break gauge before I entered the battle. And since every hit landed with 9999 damage I could take him down easily xD And with freiya on my side he couldnt do shit to her so she could always use jump

If you give him a diamond...well, he's the last of the Friendly Monsters side quest...and if you give him a diamond, Ozma's defenses DROP. A LOT. Plus Ozma becomes vulnerable to elemental attacks, if I recall right...

@NEroNeRoNerON basically alive, in this "hell" and the "devil" necron doesn't want that so he fights them so they would be dead. But they defeat him. And then he ends up basically telling them after the fight. "I do not die. You didn't kill me. You will still live, but I am not completely finished" Doesn't that make a little sense the way I see it. It came to me just now that it might kinda be this way, and that was the point.

garnet for haste. she's also excellent support for healing and protect,shell,esuna,etc. Freya can use Reiss wind and white draw.. if she's in danger or you dont need wind or white draw just jump... Vivi for attack. Steiner for attack. (or zidane for stealing) but I usually go straight for the kill

Possible no auto-regen, no fixed damage attacks, no trance strategy for this fight:
Auto-haste, Silence, HP+, MP+ abilities, party consists of Eiko, Garnet, Quina, and Zidane.
Every turn Garnet and Eiko get, they cast curaga-all.
Quina spams Twister and Zidane covers the rest of the healing and is generally just there as most of his attacks that could hit are fixed damage.
Why not using Thievery? 9999 with 7mp, best 9999 power in FFIX...

Elijah Hodges both will do 9999 at that point. Go with the one that cost less MP. Your just wasting MP for the same outcome.
It's possible with proper planning, I believe. Stat growth is affected by bonuses on equipment. In other words, the higher your stats are boosted by your equipment, the more points you will gain in them when leveling up.

So, the other way of defeating it...would be having Garnet to summon Odin, with ‘‘Odin´s Sword’’ activated as skill and a lucky deathstrike; I could manage to get rid of 3 Yans in a single battle...one character standing at last.

@NEroNeRoNerON I've gotten a lot of answers from the final fantasy wiki. I go there a lot. It said that there really isn't a lot of background info on the necron. I kinda look at it like the hill of despair is like hell or an underworld, and the necron is like the devil, but after they killed kuja he used ultima to destroy the crystal, memoria, and crystal world. And so they kinda go into a "hell" while they are still alive, because the others in the party gave them their enery and they are
FF9 was way too easy... sigh.. They should've expanded the battle system a bit and made monsters a lot stronger. Come on, party of 4, each can do 10k damage, and the highest HP boss is like 60k.
2 turns and boss is dead.... come onnn
ozma supplments the low difficulty by being a boss that is a gamble wether or not you can kill it
FF9 should've had max damage of 99k. The Gaia world was fairly large as well. Should've had more "secret scary" monsters in certain areas. Kinda like FF7's Ruby Weapon and Omega.
Game would've been much more fun.

there's always an item named Elixir :)))
and if Yan's HP is 65535, 7 frog drops should do it since your FD damage is 9999.

My party I use Zidane/Freya/Quina/Steiner.
- Auto-haste-Regen-potion-counter on everyone (when attacked by attack such as bahh by the time every character either counters or uses auto potion the auto-haste/Regen combo heaps ur entire party)
- use mighty guard if u want
- have maxed out Theivery, Dragon Crest, Frog Drop. And Steiner use Shock. Every hit does 9999
- have loudmouth so not silenced
Doesn’t matter who u fight they will be dead within a couple minutes. Using triple speed in the remaster I defeated all bosses and super bosses towards the end of the game without casting cure and they died within 2-4 min.
