- Olivia came into our office for a microscope slide to see what kind of bacteria she had in her mouth.
Much to her surprise she had a very advanced form of gum disease! Luckily we caught her periodontitis early. If we hadn't taken the microscope sample, she likely would have gone years without knowing she had periodontitis.
This is a live radio broadcast on WJR filmed in Birmingham, MI.

A lot of cases of bleeding gums is down to the immune system of that person…. Dentists need to think outside of the box.
That’s correct and dentist never talked about it , about the relation between gut, stress and immune system , all these are totally related .
Yes could be low vitamin c
the problem i have with "this is something everyone should take care of" is that it comes from a place of priveldge to be able to afford dental care.
Im curious about other 3rd world countries.
If periodontist is common.
If we can't depend on doctors and dentists, what can we do? Go go medical or dental school ourselves? Ridiculous with the money we pay them
Seems every profession claimed a right to incompetence! 😂 Meanwhile, RUclips may lift us all up. Ask for a prescription of Periostat (doxycycline 20mg) for eliminating the bacteria if you're into antibiotics. Good luck!
Yes, lots of them are full of shit & just care for the money...Dentist might not re-f you to another dentist bc they want to eat up all you ins....greed.
@alwaysrighton we always have to be our own advocate 😊
RIGHT
The real cause is too much starch in our diets . Of course hygiene is necessary but if the diet is wrong it's a losing battle.
The oral micro biome is extremely important. That’s why using an oral probiotic lozenge is needed before bed to repopulate the good bacteria.
Mouthwash that kills all the good and bad bacteria in the mouth is the worst thing you can use
Do you mind sharing your a.m and p.m oral routine? And also supplements that you take for good, overallinternal health
Absolutely the truth ,I was using this highly potent mouth wash and it destroyed mine. Now I am just recovering from it all.
But what they are saying in this video is that mouthwash kills them all but then why do people still get gum disease?
I'm so glad you made these videos doc, you are heaven sent. Most dentist don't know their patients have this disease and misdiagnose them unfortunately which leaves patients worse off for years. Thanx for teaching us the rite things and making causing awareness..I should show my dentist these videos
I have gum disease and also 21 years old (i was shocked but hygienist told me it may be genetics).. i just did my first laser therapy treatment on whole mouth and i’ll continue that for about 4 years and ill come back to this comment in a year. Let’s see if laser treatment works🙂
What's the name of that test?
@@mango-strawberryunsure but it’s probably LANAP
@@mango-strawberry PROB LANAP
How did it go
please give us an update
6:31 Seriously, I'm wondering how many people she told that to about "once you get bacteria into your system you cant get it out." You have this thing called an immune system that fights off bacteria on a daily basis. I'm glad the periodontist corrected her, but instead of her correcting her mistake she deflects and says "but before you get them into the blood stream that's the point." Like come on lady own up to your mistake and quit being soo hard headed.
I just stumbled on this video and have to share, in hopes of helping someone, that people should normalize intermittent mouth washing with straight hydrogen peroxide. Ask your dentist. I unexpectedly saved my teeth from plaque buildup. I was just trying to be extra clean and bright white but inadvertently broke loose caked on plaque. I got a follow-up deep cleaning at the local dentist and have still not had a single cavity in over 25 years.
If you use pure hydrogen peroxide they say you can end up with other problems because you will be killing a lot of the good bacteria. You have to dilute the H2O2 with water at least.
I'm 29 years old and unfortunately also have stage 3 periodontist. One of the things my dentist once told me what that if my gums bleed I need to brush them more. Now I went to the dentist as I'm having tooth loss and root cavities. Turns out bleeding gums is not normal. I've had it since I was 14 years and had braces
What are the symptoms? I think I have gingivitis, trying to get it to go away. Floss too, bleeding isn't normal
@Diamondr11Blue go see a dentist they can possibly do a deep cleaning before it turns to perio
I waited now I'm going to see Dr nemeth and may be spending $10,000
@@TheRealWheelz wow..
I had braces too I have complained to my dentists for best part of 30 years that my gums bleed they never said anything about me need to stop this...
maybe this treatment is what i need. i've had gingivitis for 6 months and im only 22 and i was crying so much yesterday because i just want to not stress about it anymore. i try so hard to floss properly but its hard for me to get the technique perfect because im slightly dyspraxic. and uk nhs dentists never wants to give you the most effective treatments until it's getting out of control. oh well i'm going to my next checkup in a few weeks anyway.
Cut back sugar/carbs & try oil pulling every day
Hey, I have periodontal disease, 2 6mm pockets in the back and beginning stage carries on pretty much all my bottom molars and on one side of my tooth closer to the front. You're not alone. I worry too. Worry excessively about my teeth falling out of the beginning cavities progressing beyond repair
I'm also 22
@@bloodyxmarry i just had a checkup today and they found one 6mm pocket and a couple of 5mm. they did the arestin treatment and gave me the basic info like get an electronic toothbrush and floss after a week. I’m feeling very overwhelmed because I am 21.
@@bloodyxmarry how do you know
Good to know now @ 40 ,way to educate & care America
How annoying that dentists know nothing about gum disease. Why can't the be tought about it in medical scholls? It blows my mind, really it does
My Dentist failed me, i now have advanced periodontal diseases.
Where did all these bacteria and amoeba come from??? The air? Food? Water?
Thank you for sharing this, what was her pockets depth and CAL?
Oil pulling helps. TRY IT
Where can I lookup the average cost of this treatment? Has anyone done and know how much it costs?
Worst thing you can ever use in your mouth is LISTERINE. It’s horrendous
@Nicolò Hi because the reports on Listerine is not what I really want to leave you.please read up on it..!!
@Nicolò I heard it can weaken the composite filling on your teeth if you have them
This is what happens when ya go to Mint dentistry, ideal, Jefferson and get quick cleanings and focus on “whitening”
You’re cleanings should be 30 minutes+
Go to a good private practice and make sure they show you X-rays and measure your gum levels.. make sure they teach you how to PROPERLY brush and floss
Im 25 with gum disease mild mostly due to genetics n my crooked teeth
Can we get an update with her?
Good afternoon! Tell me what are you staining preparations with?
I have bleeding gums for over an year or more. Right now undergoing treatment. Might undergo LANAP but not sure if that's helpful.
What type of mouthwash can you use to kill bleeding gums
Betadine
I been oil pulling with guru nada and it working.
Paradontax
Doc I have a brace and my periodontitis or gum disease .. my question is what should I remove the brace or can I still use my brace? Thanks for your answer ..
Same issue don't know what to do I feel sick any advice
What is the name of the test that was given to identify her condition?
With every new patient we take a sample of bacteria from underneath the gums to check for bacteria and parasites. We look under a microscope to diagnose gum disease. Many dentists and periodontists don't offer this actually!
@@josephrnemeth How much is one ‘check’?
What’s the price on the laser treatment you use?
@@futureflow8645 $7K maybe for the hole mouth.
@@josephrnemeth Is the test necessary ?
That’s interesting because I have recession. When I was diagnosed, the periodontist told me it could be reversed - that was in Spain. I then saw a dentist while in Mexico and he told me I don’t have gum disease. I then registered with a new dentist in my country - UK and they told me that I do have it and it’s irreversible. I’ve been lucky enough to get referred on the NHS to a periodontist and waiting for appointment. I’m interested to hear now once and for all what I have exactly because I’ve had so many different opinions, it’s unreal.
Unfortunately, there is no cure for gum disease, only treatment that you need to stay on top on for the rest of your life.
It actually is a cure. It's called oil pulling. But most dentist won't tell you that because it takes away money from the business. I'm currently on day 18 of oil pulling and my gums look so good. Look up guru nada products if you are suffering from gum disease.
Well your kinda wrong tbh, because gingivitis is the 1st stage that can be cured.
How do i get the laser???
what is this screening test called?
Yeah they suck wont tell what u have . The y only see money by appointments won’t help the way the should.
Sounds like a corporate office like Mint
Find a good private practice with 1 doctor
What's the name of that test?
Dentists are crooks. I'm still trying to figure it out... currently I have to take two teeth out and I have absolutely no solution even I did everything possible to keep it under control.
Maybe another oral DNA test. Laser treatment might be too expensive, but I need to put this bacteria down and I don't know how.
