Lea Salonga is a legend. She won the Tony and Olivier awards for her lead role in Miss Saigon. She was part of the original cast. She is a legend in Theatre, A Disney princess being the singing voice of Jasmine and Mulan both on original versions. Almost all Filipinos can sing so it is not uncommon that he was able to harmonise with her. Philippines is the land of great singers as David Foster has put it. They are just underrated in Western countries. For solo singers, watch legends like Regine Velasquez, Lani Misalucha, Gary Valenciano, Martin Nievera etc.. For Morisette’s generation, you may wanna check Katrina Velarde, Marcelito Pomoy, Jona to name a few. For groups we have our P-pop Kings SB19 (currently topping billboard HTS) and 4th Impact (girl group). These are just a few among many.
Are you aware that she is the original singing voice for Jasmine in Aladdin? She originated the the movie version of this song along with Brad Kane. Just wanted to point that out in case you thought she was just covering.
Lea is a West End, Broadway, Disney, and international superstar. Her rendition of On My Own from the Les Miserables 10th Anniversary is the gold standard. Also the 25th anniversary of Les Mis, her rendition of I Dreamed a Dream. She won numerous awards for her performance as Kim in Miss Saigon.
Lea (pronounced LAY-ah, sounds like Princess Leia from Star Wars) did the singing voice of 2 Disney princesses: Jasmine (she originated this song "A Whole New World" in the film "Aladdin") and Mulan. The lyrics she sang are definitely the correct ones. The audience member was not a plant. He didn't sing it perfectly, though he did manage to sound pretty good and harmonize most of it. I've seen a lot of videos of Lea singing this song with audience members and most of the time they sound very good. They were laughing about him being a nurse because of something Lea talked about earlier in the concert: Lea talked about the last Broadway show she was in (ONCE ON THIS ISLAND) and how her character was a nurse and how special that was because she could represent the tens of thousands of Filipino nurses all over the world. Lea has been performing since she was 7 years old. She has done theater, TV, film, albums and concerts, but first became internationally known in theater. (She was the first Filipina to win all the major theater awards when she originated the leading role in the musical MISS SAIGON in London and on Broadway.) This concert was filmed in 2019 when Lea was 48 years old. There are many AMAZING Filipino singers to watch. Lea happens to be my favorite, though she isn't one that hits crazy high notes or riffs. If you are only interested in that, please don't bother watching Lea's videos. But if you can appreciate great singing that doesn't include vocal gymnastics, there are far better Lea videos for you to react to. I'm mentioning just a few including some duets: --Lea singing "On My Own" from LES MISERABLES 10th Anniversary concert in 1995. (She was 24. Most consider her performance of the song the gold standard.) ruclips.net/video/VjfmP7h3gBw/видео.html --Lea singing "Still Hurting" from the musical THE LAST FIVE YEARS. This is just a rehearsal for a concert from 2013 (she was 42), but her performance is absolutely incredible. ruclips.net/video/xSYtZRMFozc/видео.html --Lea singing a musical medley duet with Regine Velasquez. Just in case you haven't heard of Regine (yet), she is called Asia's Songbird, but also often referred to as Queen Regine because she's one of the best singers in the Philippines. Just about all singers in the Philippines from the last 30 years consider her an inspiration and many try to sound like her. Regine is 10 months older than Lea and this duet was part of an online concert Regine did in 2020 for her 50th birthday to raise money for one of her favorite charities. ruclips.net/video/hqrVuUil-Qg/видео.html --Lea singing "Movie in My Mind" from MISS SAIGON with Rachelle (pronounced just like Rachel) Ann Go. This was part of a special celebration for the 25th anniversary of MISS SAIGON. Lea was 18 when she originally opened the show in London in 1989. This concert took place after a performance of the London revival in 2014. Rachelle Ann is also a Filipina performer and Lea had encouraged her to audition for the London revival. ruclips.net/video/bWys8rQ8EXI/видео.html
They were laughing with the 'nurse' bit because before that performance, Lea talked about how she dressed up as a nurse for her role in the Broadway revival of Once On This Island. She talked about how that was the best way to explain her casting in the show, because there are a lot of Filipino nurses all over the world. Also, he is not a plant. Lea is known for getting the audience's participation when she sings this song in concert. Most fans usually practice in advance for it if they wanted to get picked. One of her most remarkable Broadway appearances was as Eponine during the 10th anniversary run of the show. She became the definitive Eponine after that. You should react to it to know her voice more. Just search "Lea Salonga On My Own" in yt. Also, the original lyrics to the song was "every moment red letter" and they've vhanged it now to "every moment gets better" for the new live adaptation of the movie.
Just to reiterate, Lea Salonga is the ONLY ASIAN and the ONLY PILIPINO to win a TONY AWARD in the USA. She is the only Disney Princess...TWICE: as the singing voice of Jasmine (Disney Aladdin movie), and the singing voice of Mulan, too. Lea was also the one responsible in recommending Morissette to see ALLAN MENKEN, the creator of the music/lyrics of "The Whole New World" of the Alladin movie. MENKEN was in Japan with Will SMITH and Morissette flew to Japan then to meet the two guys, and she did. She even duet with Menken with the Whole New World song. Hopefully we can hear Morissette someday as a Disney Princess like LEA Salonga. Watching from Illinois USA: 01-08-2022....early morning here now. Good Night and Stay Safe Always TO ALL !
she's the only disney "legend" who did the singing voices of 2 disney princess, jasmine and mulan. pinoys are well-versed with songs that feature filipino singers.
Lea is at the top of the food chain while morisette is just on step 1. Yes, she randomly pick people based on a lot of her interviews. Mulan and Jasmine's singing voice, well-respected in musical theater both Broadway and the West End... the list goes on. If you're into pop vocals like Morisette's, you might want to react to Regine Velasquez, Katrina Velarde and so much more. You'll never run out of people to react to.
It is actually "every moment, red-letter" which means how significant or important every moment they spend together. I don't know when it changed to "gets better" though.
Lea always does this in her concerts. She picks someone from the audience to sing A Whole New World with her. Look her up singing “On My Own” from Les Miserable and you will see how perfectly trained she is. In the Philippines we pass the time singing Karaoke everytime it is possible. We also love the theater and that is where Lea Salonga got her formal training. When the producer of Ms Saigon was looking for talents to cast for that play, their final destination was the Philippines and everyone was so shocked by the number of talents that went to audition. I remember Andrew Lloyd Weber saying that the “Philippines is a sea of talent”. Karaoke is one of the two major past time of the Filipinos, “cockfighting” being the other one suffice to say that if you take any one of these from the Filipino people, you are probably creating a revolution.
Lea Salonga is the only singer sang for 2 Disney princesses. She's the original singing voices of Jasmine in Aladdin and Mulan, the original Disney animated film where Christina Aguilera has pop version. She received HALL OF FAME award from Disney. And She's has a big name in Broadway and West-End Musical Theater play.
Try her recording and audition for the Whole new World song... It's in the recording studio in New York with Tim Rice and Alan Menkin. Try watching her Les Miserable On my Own song during theater anniversary concert. Perfect reaction of Lea '. S performance from educated theater coaches
Thank you so much for reacting to Ms. Lea Salonga. We really appreciate it a lot. Also, yes it's true that it wasn't planned and the man she had a duet with was just a random person she picked in the crowd. But here's the thing, the friends of the guy kept pointing their fingers on him and shouting his name when Ms. Lea was looking for a random person to sing with. And when she managed to notice the voices of his friends, she then picked him up, then that man came up on stage and said that he's REALLY REALLY a fan of her and he thinks he knew all of her song. So it's not surprising that he knew how to harmonize because he has been following Ms.Lea's singing journey and it's his dream to have a duet with her. From this moment, I would like to introduce some facts about our Queen which are; ✅ Ms. Lea sang for 5 Philippine Presidents, 3 American Presidents, former American President first lady, Hillary Clinton, AND the royalties of United Kingdom; Princess Diana of Kensington palace, and YOUR MAJESTY, QUEEN ELIZABETH II of many other commonwealth realms. ✅ Ms. Lea received a "Presidential medal award of Merit" from the President of the Philippines named Corazon Aquino back in 1990. Same as "Hidilyn Diaz" being a Presidential awardee also last 2021. The HIGHEST AWARD a president or government of the Philippines can give. ✅ Ms. Lea received a "Komandante" for the "Orden ni Lakandula" from another President of the Philippines named Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. The SECOND HIGHEST honors given by the government of the Philippines. ✅ Ms. Lea received the "Congressional Medal of Achievement" from the House of Representatives of the Philippines. And I actually wanted to request a song of her titled "Human Heart" if it's okay, I promise you would love her as much as we, Filipinos do. Thank you so much! Stay safe always! 🙏💗 Here's the link please: ruclips.net/video/eWeWmSbQpa4/видео.html Thank you!!!
I love Morissette, my second favorite behind Lea Salonga. But Mori and Lea are different type of singers. If you’re looking for singers more like Morissette then look for Regine Velazquez, Jona Veray, and Klarisse De Guzman videos.
there is Utube video ( seems to be split into 2 ) of Lea singing casual at a NYC bar , pretty fun. this tune & one from Les Miz. and yes, She is super. two very serious tunes, one from the famous tenth Anniversary. of ' Les Miz'. 'on my own.' the entire 3 hrs is spectacular from every soloist. and one from a solo concert of broadway tunes, Her brother conducting - ' don't cry for me Argentina'
Lea sings this song in every concert she has all over the world. She randomly picks guys in the audience to sing with her so most guys who watch her concert prepare ahead of time just in case they are lucky enough to get picked by her. Some guys are really good, some are bad.
@ 04:45 = “Red letter” generally means a day or event of great significance. So in the song, they are saying how significant or important every moment they spend together is. Why does Jasmine say every moment red letter? On a lot of calendars, important days are marked with red numbers and lettering instead of the regular black.
Of course she ia an excellent singer cause she sang the original "a whole new world" of alladin. She's also the voice of Mulan in the song "Reflection" 🙄
@Ryan Reaction she is a world class talent. Do your research first. She made the impossible POSSIBLE and made way for more Filipinos to do Broadway. She is the one and only Lea Salonga who won INTERNATIONAL AWARDS.
She is the original singer for the Aladdin theme song. Morissette was hired by Disney to sing A whole new world for the new Aladdin movie with Will Smith, it’s on RUclips
the laughter was because, before the Aladin number, she sang a tribute song to all Filipino nurses working outside the Philippines. this was in Sydney opera house. the full video of this concert can be seen also here on YT. the conductor is also her brother, Gerard.
Lea is Disney's original singing voice of Princess Jasmine of Alladin and Mulan. She sang with Ben Kingsley, Julie Andrews and Phoebe Bryson in the Hollywood Dream Recording for the role of Tuptim in the King and I. She also originated the lead role of Kim in Miss Saigon and performed at London's West End and Broadway in New York. Yes, Lea is a Broadway legend and well-respected artist in the internal music scene.
Lea Salonga is truly a legend! If you really want to know what she can do, watch her performance of "On my own", recorded at the 10th anniversary concert of Les Miserables. I would like to see your reaction on that.
Hi Ryan, Meredith Chandler’s comment below sums up Lea’s illustrious career. She is also a Tony awardee. I kindly suggest that you do research your artists before reacting (as some respectable reactors do) to give credence and sense to your comments. This will do good for your blogging career, else you would not attract the interest of the artist’s fans. Cheers.
You have no idea how singing for Filipinos are "the life"! That really was un-rehearsed because Lea always does that thing in her concerts, taking someone from the audience to have a duet of A Whole New World! And if you still doubt, look up for more of Lea's videos, specifically one where she "auditions" for a part in the play "Miss Saigon" which was staged at West End. She played the main role, Kim.
It seems you only reacted to 1 song of Miss Lea Salonga, check the original miss Saigon cast, she was in Les Miserables twice, she was in Cinderella Broadway, & many more other than she's the original Jasmine & Mulan
FACT: MS. LEA SALONGA IS THE ORIGINAL SINGING VOICE OF JASMINE AND THE ORIGINAL SINGER OF "A WHOLE NEW WORLD." CHRISTINA AGUILERA JUST SANG THE STUDIO VERSION OF IT.
and wonder if he knows that 99% of Filipino household have karaoke in theor houses and sings as a hobby. Filipinos are a very good imitators of whatever song you want them to cover.
It seems that you like Disney songs. I know you're into Aussie contents right now. Maybe you could consider reacting to "A night of wonder with Disney+ featuring Zephanie, Janella Salvador and Stell singing When you wish upon a star, How far I'll go and Circle of Life". The perfect trio we never expected.
Obviously you didn't know that Lea's the original voice for Jasmine in that song. This is her concert, so if you're a Lea fan watching the concert and nominating yourself to do a due with her, you better know how to sing the song and do the melody first hand. The guy did his homework prior to the concert obvi. That explains why it almost didn't seem not rehearsed.
Yeah Lea is Philippines treasure.. As well as MORISETTe .. You can check morisette and Darren espanto singing a whole new world.. Also In wish bus.. Highly recommended
I know everyone is saying in the comments already but I will say it again.. Lea Salonga is THE ORIGINAL singing voice of Jasmine in the movie Alladin and also Fa Mulan in Mulan. Lea Salonga is a Tony Award winner and is known by this set up whenever she has concerts. Better search for her Miss Saigon or Les Miserables videos. She is the Original Miss Saigon and the first asian to play Eponine in Les Miserables. Do some research even a little bit before you film your reaction. Your viewers will be coming for more. Love from Thailand. 💜
Knowing for a fact that he is a Filipino already has a good chances that he can sing…. Harmonizing is common as well. Lea do this for fun and she is very vocal that not all people who came up on stage do sound good :-)
She sounds the same as original. I was impressed on reunion from original Aladdin, Guy had smoked a pack a day and wasn't involved in Broadway and they called him like 2 weeks before. Lea never stopped singing. This guy had balls to go up there but he is not close to aladdin and it is every read letter
HAHAHAHAH i dont know if i will laughed out loud about this bro.. but Lea is Well Known broadway singer in New York, she is actually the real singer behind aladin 😁
bro check out lea's 'on my own', 'don't cry for me argentina', 'via dolorosa or her disney songs and 'miss saigon' songs...you'll be amazed, reaction worthy!
You're already forgiven bro for not knowing that she's the original singing voice of Princess Jasmine for A Whole New World in the film Aladdin. Haha 😂😂 She have many accomplishments and you can try do a research for that. Thanks. :)
It was funny because Filipinos are stereotyped as nurses working abroad ( it's really a noble job), Lea was 19 I believe when she sang a whole new world for the original animated movie aladdin back in 92 ( she was also the singer for Mulan on the original animated movie) that's why her voice matured. I'm not Filipino but I know that.... let's say almost all of them knows how to sing.
Funny reactions dude that was great though. I wonder if you could check out the same song cover by Morisette and Darren Espanto on the Wishbus cheers mate 🎶
Just looked up what red letter means. Basically it means every moment is memorable. Apparently based on the Bible where Jesus used red to stand out from the color black.
Yes she did, only two time Disney Princess I believe. She was given a Disney Legend Award and was recently put on a stamp in the Philippines as a legend. A true icon and the purest of voices.
Regarding if it was planned or not. It is not. As a Filipino, filipino singers tend to have a very good hearing that they can easily remember a melody. And I am just laughing at your reaction because dude you're talking about a literal disney legend and broadway diva. She originated the voices of Princess Jasmine and Mulan.

Yeah, it felt like Lea isn't as good as Morissette based on his reaction. The audacity!
She even did Mulan to

She's the original singer of that song... as well as Mulan's Reflection. She is a Disney/Broadway legend. A superstar.
A Whole New World is a staple duet song in videoke here in the Philippines. This is the reason why the guy can harmonize well.
The queen herself! The two-time Disney Princess and Tony award-winning actress.
Lea’s voice was used as Mulan and it’s her voice in Aladdin. She also performed the main character in Broadway’s Miss Sagon… fyi

Totally agree. Seems like he is so limited to Morissette only. His reaction was insulting tbh.
Please check out more on Ms Lea Salonga the Disney legend.. and her other performances..❤️❤️❤️🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭
There are so many amazing singers in the Philippines.KZ Tandingan, Katrina Velarde and Gigi de Lana.
The Philippines is karaoke-land. Majority of the people can sing well.
Watch her sing Le Miserable “ On my own”.
Shes the original singer as jasmine in disney movie Aladin back in,92
I believe Lea sang main ‘Princesses’ in both Aladdin and Mulan, but didn’t voice the speaking lines
Some know the harmony of a whole new world. It had been playing over and over during the childhood days..
She is jasmine from aladdin mi amigo. thtats her. she is the owner and queen of that song.
It seems you only reacted to 1 song of Miss Lea Salonga, check the original miss Saigon cast, she was in Les Miserables twice, she was in Cinderella Broadway, & many more other than she's the original Jasmine & Mulan
Thats the original lyrics by the original singer in case you dont know. Lea Salonga is a legend.
Here's Lea Salonga performing live: Lea Salonga Sings "Vanilla Ice Cream" | Broadway's Best 2020| Great Performances on PBS
FACT: MS. LEA SALONGA IS THE ORIGINAL SINGING VOICE OF JASMINE AND THE ORIGINAL SINGER OF "A WHOLE NEW WORLD."
CHRISTINA AGUILERA JUST SANG THE STUDIO VERSION OF IT.
lea is the original voice
Respected and other famous singers here in the Philippines coined her as the Pitch Perfect lady.
It is not planned... he can really sing in harmony as he is a choir conductor....
LEA IS THE DISNEY PRINCESS SIR,,
Leah Salonga is the original Whole new world singer
and wonder if he knows that 99% of Filipino household have karaoke in theor houses and sings as a hobby. Filipinos are a very good imitators of whatever song you want them to cover.
this guy have no idea who Lea Salonga is???
Do the rrsearch first please
I know right?
No idea at all. It's kinda funny.
You shouldn’t be surprised if Filipinos can sing harmony at impromptu moments because we are used to it. We do it in churches every Sunday.
You should react to Morissette Amon and Darren Espanto rendition of "A Whole New World" live on wish bus❤️
That's just a normal usual day in the Philippines 😅✌️
It seems that you like Disney songs. I know you're into Aussie contents right now. Maybe you could consider reacting to "A night of wonder with Disney+ featuring Zephanie, Janella Salvador and Stell singing When you wish upon a star, How far I'll go and Circle of Life". The perfect trio we never expected.
Watch her version of Burn in the London Palladium.
Hahaha dude he’s normal voice in the Philippines. Filipinos mastered the karaoke. Lol
" EVERY MOMENT ,RED-LETTER"
Yeah Lea is Philippines treasure.. As well as MORISETTe .. You can check morisette and Darren espanto singing a whole new world.. Also
In wish bus..
Do your research bruh!! 😁😁😁 She's a legend .. OMG!! 😂😂😂😂
This guy had balls to go up there but he is not close to aladdin
and it is every read letter
HAHAHAHAH i dont know if i will laughed out loud about this bro.. but Lea is Well Known broadway singer in New York, she is actually the real singer behind aladin 😁
"red letter" = special
bro check out lea's 'on my own', 'don't cry for me argentina', 'via dolorosa or her disney songs and 'miss saigon' songs...you'll be amazed, reaction worthy!
You're already forgiven bro for not knowing that she's the original singing voice of Princess Jasmine for A Whole New World in the film Aladdin. Haha 😂😂 She have many accomplishments and you can try do a research for that. Thanks. :)
girl she’s the real voice of Jasmine!?!?
Singing voice only.
You have to check out Lea Salonga's performances in Les Miserables. 🤗
Being a nurse is a Filipino stereotype LOL Every Filipino has a "should I just be a nurse" moment in their life looool
React to Morissette and Darren singing A Whole New World..
Funny reactions dude that was great though. I wonder if you could check out the same song cover by Morisette and Darren Espanto on the Wishbus cheers mate 🎶
Please check LEA SALONGA...Les Miserable 😍...She played the role of eponine...Thanks🇵🇭🇵🇭
Just looked up what red letter means. Basically it means every moment is memorable. Apparently based on the Bible where Jesus used red to stand out from the color black.
4:30 Miss Lea is correct, it's "Red-letter" i checked the lyrics on google 😄❤
Kinda didn't need to lyric check the original singer of the song 😅
Watch her sing On My Own
Listen to Mori for Alladin, The Whole New World
Lea Salonga won a Tony and an Olivier
I believe Lea sang the ‘Princess’ parts in both Aladdin and Mulan but didn’t voice the speaking lines
Yes she did, only two time Disney Princess I believe. She was given a Disney Legend Award and was recently put on a stamp in the Philippines as a legend. A true icon and the purest of voices.
On Lea's concert she would pick one audience to do the duet with her... so most guy audience practice already... you get what i mean? 😊
