How to paint a realistic Labradorite with Resin

  • For this piece I wanted to make it a little more realistic. I takes much more time than the version I did in the last video, but the layered striations really make it look realistic. The other thing that really help in bringing natural life into this piece was the 1 part black paint to 2 parts floetrol mixture. It refilled the lines, gave them motion, and added it those subtle streaks that i tried so long to figure out how to get! Using a clear or lacquer spray is a must if you're trying to get that natural burn look where the rock flares red. Something happens when it dries on the film and give it that heated look. the big thing about labradorites is their shiny backgrounds and layered lines so those are the thing to focus on when doing a labradorite painting.

If you watered down the black paint a bit and then spritzed it with 91% alcohol, you'd build on the realism of an already amazing technique. Bravo. By far the best I've seen! 💕

@@CBrinleyArtistry labrodite is my absolute favorite rock because of its beautiful shimmers. I've wanted to make items like this but couldn't find a good way to execute the process. I'll be getting this done for some jewelery! I'm also thinking of doing my counter tops like this!

One of the most original resin art creations I’ve seen in a while!! Thx for sharing. And no pun in words- you are the neatest artist! My whole space and my hands would be such a mess! Lol

Aww thank you! I'm huge geology, especially because my dad is a geologist! I just use trash base underneath lol and when they get to messy I just use them for actual trash lol and then use a new one and I've spent so long measuring and seeing exactly how much each canvas needs so I dont create a lot of waste
