- Boulder Opals have always inspired me. The beautiful flashes of colors resinates in me.
Here, I am sharing with you the making of OPALUS, inspired but the magical qualities of Boulder Opals. (note: this is a painting demo and not a tutorial. I'll try my best to answer your questions if you have any regarding the process.)
OPALUS was created with multiple layers of resin, cellophane paper and resin pigments and micas on a 24" round table top. The finished product was 21 pounds.
** I'd love to see your creation inspired by technique.

Beautiful!!
Omg, that’s gorgeous. I actually have an Australian opal that looks a lot like this, what a beautiful representation.
Truly inspired
Was just amazing ( you are my hero )❤️❤️
Beautiful Opal Art ❤️
beautiful work
This is amazing, I may have to attempt my own version of this. It looks complicated. Stunning work.
Wow, gorgeous
This is absolutely stunning 🥰😍🥰😩 new subbie 💋💕
My birthstone is an opal and this reminds me of a pair of black opal earrings I have...beautiful.
I love this so much! Can't wait to try it! Just subscribed!
Me too!
So beautiful
Fran at Little-Windows has been doing something similar (dichroic jewelry technique) on a smaller scale for years, resulting in opalescent effect. I wouldn't have dreamed of scaling it up, but it works!
This is stunning! I would also like to try to create a smaller version for my accent tables!
Love your work. Please make tutorial.
Also explain little about a black paint you did first? What kind of, how to use it etc
Any chance you could list the pigments you use. This is by far the best resin piece I've ever seen.... Your work is amazing...
I was wondering that myself. Especially the browns at the last part! Love the effect!
SAME@@Molly_W
I've always loved opal above any other type of stone.
So beautiful.
Thank you!
So pretty
WOW!!
Bravo!
I made a couple of these, on a smaller scale though. They are super fun to make
AMAZING! What colors and resin are you using and does it have a strong adore? Will you make tutorial?
awesome artwork, you always inspire me. can you please twell me what color pigment you used for the dark shade was it gold and black?
Amazing
Love this. I want to do my kitchen counters to look the colors of Malachite, would like to put some Opal in it as well. All you artist do some supurb stuff. I have learned a lot.
inspire734
Have you seen the www.StoneCoatCountertops.com website and RUclips channel? They do magical things with resin and micas to make countertops, tables, etc. I’ll bet they could help you create the perfect counter if you ever decide to do it.
I love you work. Congratulations!!!
Can I use colored foil for this work or should it be cellophane?
Wow thank you so much for showing some insight into your process! I love your work, so inspiring! Is the gold color you use from an alcohol ink or a paint?
It would nice if you told us what you are using. to create this effect.
Beautiful
Fantastic xo
Lovely
Thank you, Gayle!
How do you finish sides and when do you take tape off? Gorgeous!
Just discovered your channel and I'm binge watching :) your art is wonderful, do you sell your pieces?
Hi love your video! Around 3.00mins, are you adding coloured resin as layer 2? Looks like some light blue and some light pink is poured on,
- I'm now at this stage and not sure if it is just clear resin to be used here. Thanks
Love to see work, but wearing protective equipment too, really great.
This is the most beautiful thing I've ever seen! Absolutely stunning! I'm obsessed! I don't think I could do anyting like this but I would love to try a smaller version like a coaster set! I've never worked with epoxy resin before so I will be a beginner. Any tips on beginning the process!?
Start with UV resin first. It can be more expensive but it is less messy and you don't have to worry about mixing quantities. I found it is wonderful for small projects. And if you don't have a good UV lamp, use the sun :)
This is beautiful! I do have a question for you, with the heating components in epoxy resin, how do you keep the cellophane from melting?
Myho07
What you need to do is some samples and see what happens. Perhaps it doesn't get hot enough to melt that cellophane. Do a thin cover at a time. Once the first cover is cooled down, it may protect each layer from getting too hot. Just do a thin coat at a time. Let it cool down a bit then add more. Looks like this is the process.
Myho07
You are barely keeping the heat in any one place for any length of time, plus you are only heating the areas that have resin. The flame just isn’t getting the resin very hot. I don’t know if she is using the flame to try to create “cells”, but most people who work with resin only use the flame to pop the air bubbles trapped within the resin. It just takes a quick pass of the flame to pop the bubbles. Depending on the resin you are using, you can actually catch the resin on fire if you leave the flame in one place too long and the resin reaches its ignition temperature. So, that’s another reason to keep the flame moving!
Edit: I just re-read your question and saw that you were asking about the heat that’s generated from the mixing of the two parts of the resin and not the flame. Different brands of resin generate different amounts of heat when mixed. I have never experienced heat generated from mixing resin that was so hot that it was uncomfortable to touch the container I was mixing it in, but I supposed those resins do exist. If you wish to add resin to something that contains cellophane, I’d make sure you chose a resin that generates less heat. Letting the resin sit for a while before using will also give it time to cool, as long as you don’t need a lot of working time.
If your project isn’t that big, there is always the option of using UV curing resin.

Did you use irid celephane or multiple single color sheets? Any color into the epoxy?
Now i know how to this was going to use paint ms y still do so but this looks so reall .
Beautiful! I have not tried resin art yet, but would love to now. Do wish you would speak as you are working,
That's a tough ask because she's wearing a full faced respirator
Hello! This is a beautiful artwork. 😍 Quick questions: when you do the layer of bronze/brown, is that a mix of many brown colors or just one color of mica? Did you add silicone to it? Thanks!
I would definitely like to know as well!
it looked like different shades of brown and golds mica. that would be my guess. i know i am gonna try this on a piece of wood than turn it into a clock
juliana garces
There were definitely different shades of micas used.
I doubt silicone was used. Resin does not stick to silicone, do I would imagine that adding it would cause curing problems. But, this is just my guess, I have never tried it.
What type celephane did you use?
Hi Crystal. Could you please tell me what kind of a container is this created into? Is it silicone? Or is it a covered in plastic base of some description? Thank you so much! Beautiful! 👍👌
It’s actually a wooden table top flood taped with 3M foil tape.
Where did you buy this magic foil? Great. Beautiful.
Julia Razumets
It is called dichroic film or Angelina film. It comes in tons of colors. www.etsy.com/market/angelina_film
Masterfully made. Can you recommend any holographic scrap or craft item? I plan to use slicers of cd backing. Bless you~
Kelly E
She used what is called dichroic film or also called Angelina film. It comes in tons of different colors. www.etsy.com/market/angelina_film
Wow! This is truly amazing. You have really lit a fire under my ass and I'm so inspired to try something new. Thank you for sharing your talents with all of us.💜🤗😙
What kind of silver tape
Live the colours but if you're going for a more realistic opal you might want more white on it, maybe a thin layer of white on the whole thing?
What did you add as holographic? Beautiful work!
K L
The second layer she put down was dichroic film, or also called Angelina film. www.etsy.com/market/angelina_film
This mainly gives it a holographic look but also the addition of different layers of pearlescent mica in resin added to the holographic look.
Wooow ...really inspiring ...do u paint cellophane with resins pigments or they are colored? I didn't find colored cellophane in my country 😩

this is amazing, where did you get the colour shifting cellophane from ???
I’ve been looking everywhere she needs to answer this lol. I got colour shifting vinyl but it’s not the same 😩
@@destinyweaver5656 party city store
It looks to me like she used iridescent cellophane. Hobby Lobby or Michael's in the party and gift wrap section. I LOVE her work...!!
About 3:22 I notice you adding what appears to be clear cellophane strips. Could you explain the reason why.
I was building depth using cello and resin. Thanks for watching
Miraculous
Is this the way cellophene is ? I mean the colour? Did you colour it? If so,what type of colour is this? Is it posible to get a mother of pearl finish?
sunita chabria
sunita chabria check out amazon.com, they have a lot of crafting stuff.
It is called holographic Mylar. You can get it in large rolls, strips, confetti (random & irregular cuts), or most commonly glitter in various sizes. Hope you find it!
Salty Siren thank you will look for it 🙏
Salty Siren it could be cellophane?
It's beautiful but what did you do to get it. How did you get the different colors and the degree of opalescence? From this video no one could make this because you don't tell us what you are adding to it.
cmearl21
You should be able to recreate this piece from the video; she shows the steps quite clearly. It might take a little trial and error to get to right ratio of mica:resin, but the basic steps are shown.
The first step was laying down a layer of dark/black resin. The cellophane (aka Angelina film) is crumpled and added. Pearlescent mica:resin is added in different layers to the cellophane layer. Then different brown micas:resin are added. A flame is used to pop the air bubbles in the different layers of resin. You certainly add your own artistic spin to each step, but those are the basic steps.
@@janedoe6181 beautiful! Do you know what she used on the rim to prevent the paint from pouring over the edge? Is that tape?
Hey there! Finished look for me was an eye porn to be honest, loved it! Is there any chance for tutorial of this?
What is the name of the foil you are using
Absolutely awe inspiring Crystal. May I ask, is that holographic paper you used? It really does add to the opal effect. Congratulations on this beautiful work. 💙💜🧡🖤💕
What it is name green plastic?
This is so beautiful! You are such an inspiration! Where do you get your celephane paper? What resin brand and pigments are your fav?
Cellophane was purchased at a local craft store and resin I’m using is Promarine. Thanks for watching!
2 questions:
1. How many layers did this end up being? I think I only saw your feet change twice. Maybe 3 times.. I know too much resin causes it to overheat and crack.
2. Where did you get that awesome respirator? I HAVE to get one just like it..
This piece was created with 4layers including the top coat. I got my respirator from Amazon. It’s a full face 3M respirator and I recommend it. :)
Oh wow! $$$
On camera I don’t like the gold/brown you added at the end.
agree
Wow this is gorgeous. I will never look at that shiny paper the same way again! Thanks for the inspiration and btw...I HAVE THOSE SAME SANDALS! Worn slap out and Still Wearing Them!
Haha those sandals are part of my studio gear 🤣
@@Awwwinkkk My Mom cringes when I wear them around her. I have paint and concrete on mine all the time...or garden dirt!
Wish I had a pair for everyday of the week and they are identical to yours! I checked the pattern on the sides lol.
LOVE YOUR ART IT'S AWESOME.
🤣🤣so does my husband but or well, I’m not going paint barefoot or mess up my shoes. Lol
