  • How to Dual Boot Windows 7 and Windows 10
    Before you begin I recommend you do a full backup of your data.
    If you are looking to dual boot Windows 10 with Windows 7 already installed, then this video is for you. You can create this dual-boot system from pretty much any version of Windows I am going to show you how easy it is to dual boot both these operating systems, you will get a menu where you can choose to boot into Windows 7 or Windows 10.
    We will need to make sure we have a partition or another hard drive for our dual boot to work correctly. You can create a new partition on your hard drive using the Windows Disk Management Utility, this is easy to do in by shrinking the volume .

      I did not install the 2 OS into dual boot mode, but installed them separately in 2 HDD and SSD, but no way I could boot up the Win7 even if I chose to boot up the OS in the selected HDD, I set it up in the BIOS CMOS to boot up the Win7, so I assumed the new hardware system always choose to boot up Windows 10 in the SSD for no matters which HDD I had chose to boot up the OS with !

    The main reasons to use windows 7 over windows 10
    1). Windows 7 is stable
    2). It is compatible with a lot of programs that worked for windows xp
    3). It does not spy on you or force computer breaking updates on you. ( yes I am talking about the windows ten update 1903)
    4). You still have control over your computer and not Microsoft. So no spyware
    5). It is a great operating system

      2). It is compatible with all of the legacy programs that i've tested so far
      3). Windows 7 also spy on you since 2015 with the same telmetry processes
      4). The UI is much better

    Thanks so much Britec09, I'm seeing a lot of questions about this install and maybe my experience with the GPT and MBR part of it can help someone as well. I couldn't make my transition to Dual Boot to work with a fresh install of Windows 10 Pro on an new SSD with GPT and my existing Windows 7 on a 7200rpm HDD with original MBR on my laptop with 2 separate hard drives (Yes, my laptop has 2 HDD slots and I couldn't switch my original HDD from MBR to GPT). So when I Simple Initialized my new SSD (remembering to name it "Windows 10" like he suggested) I chose MBR and it worked great. When I booted into the new Windows 10 Pro hard drive, I was pleased to see that my original Windows 7 containing HDD showed up as a C/: drive, and I could access all my downloaded content through Windows 10. Sweet! I did not know that. I love that I can go back and forth between operating systems and use some of my old programs that I can't get any more when I'm booted on Windows 7. Thanks for this video Britec09

    Very helpful video, thanks. Maybe this will save someone some time in the future - 7 can't be loaded to GPT disk, it needs MBR. WIN 10 can't be loaded on MBR, it needs GPT. This is fine if you are using 2 separate disks but it isn't possible to partition a single harddrive for dual booting which is what I was wanting to do. Guess I'll add another hard drive to be able to dual boot.

    Wouldn't it be better to let Windows Setup format the extra partition (or drive) itself?
    It likes to make a ~100MB volume for management stuff, as well as the Windows partition.
    I guess this only matters when using an extra disk instead of partition.
    Nice walkthrough. Turning spyware stuff off is a good tip too.

    I have a 2TB and happened to have Windows 10 Home and bought Windows 10 Pro as an upgrade. Having the room and the inclination I dual booted both on one hard drive. It makes an ideal setup to test things like Classic Menu and other things before transferring to Win Pro my main Volume. also if I do have a BSOD or other crash I have a backup already installed.

  • @Dr.AnonymousPro

    This is all very incorrect. Both Windows 7 and Windows 10 (nowadays) install an extra 3 partitions in front of the disk. The way you've done it is only possible in a virtual environment. As is shown often by others, since W10 wants to install using GPT, and most Win7 users have it on an MBR disk, this causes all kinds of messy troubles. Not to mention the required BIOS settings for newer boards are completely sucky for dual boot options on an NVMe SSD for example. In short: It's a complete mess, all thanks to the shit dev team 10 of Microsoft, where they can't even fix a broken bcd with their 'Startup repair', while every dumb user can see both *active* Windows partitions by commandline. Apparently only idiots work at Microsoft these days.

    • @Argonova
      @Argonova 5 лет назад +5

      You shouldn't call them "idiots". It was completely intentional. They want to make dual booting as difficult as humanly possible so that the average person won't risk screwing up their system to try an alternative OS.

    • @Reploidx9
      @Reploidx9 5 лет назад +7

      Intentional or not, they're still idiots for doing so. The "average" person will still screw up the system. It always happens.

    • @Argonova
      @Argonova 5 лет назад +1

      I think you misunderstood, although I could have been more clear. What I meant was, the average person won't risk setting up any kind of dual boot for fear of breaking their computer. Doing so seems highly technical to the average person. And very few people are willing to outright delete their windows installation. My point was, the design is intended to intimidate people into not giving alternative operating systems a try. All in the name of keeping them "safe". Its a cut throat business decision to ensure their (effective) monopoly on the market share.

    • @jacobnathanielzpayag3885
      @jacobnathanielzpayag3885 5 лет назад +2

      According to microsoft you "can" dual-boot by installing Windows 10 first. Windows 7 can be installed using a GPT layout afterwards. But i think this is only limited to 64-bit versions of Windows 7.

    I have been wrestling with this issue for a couple of days trying to get the dual boot to work. I think I stumbled upon something that may work for others.
    As some have experienced, I followed the steps in this video and in the end had no option to boot from multiple OS's after I finished. I could see the partition that housed the Win7 OS however it would not boot to that drive (volume) or offer the option.
    I tried several things to boot up to that drive to no avail. I wanted to preserve the OS because there is a program I use that isn't ready for Win10 yet. I don't know why I didn't think of this earlier but I guess it was not obvious until after...I hate when that happens.
    So here's the thing that worked for me; while booted up in Win10, I put the Win7 original install disk/usb medium into a drive and rebooted. As the computer was starting up I pressed F8 until I can get into F12 or some pressing F12 may work while rebooting. When I was able to get into the setting screen I changed the bootup drive to the USB/DVD (whichever you have available and contains the Win7 medium) saved the setting and let the system continue booting up. When the Win7 install screen came up I selected [Repair System] (or some text like that, I don't remember the exact phrase) at the bottom left. It rebooted the system and repaired the boot file to include Win7. A message will come up indicating that it found that Win7 needs to be added to the boot file. That solved the problem and now I get the option to choose which OS to open up at startup.
    Hope this helps others having this issue.

    I did not install the 2 OS into dual boot mode, but installed them in separately in 2 HDD and SSD, but no way I could boot up in the Win7 even if I chose to boot up the OS in the selected HDD, I set it up in the BIOS CMOS to boot the Win7, so I assumed the new hardware system always choose to boot up Windows 10 in the SSD for no matters which HDD I had chose to boot up the OS with !
