Great video, great shelf I use brown paper grocery bags after the first coat of a water based finish. I find it not only knocks the grain down, it also can be easier to get into the corners.
Saw this in the intro of the last video I watched and immediately thought… I hope he built that. And I hope theres a video. Went searching… and there it was. I love this piece. Thanks for sharing.
Haha nice! I'm glad you like it. It's definately one of the things I'm more proud of. Thanks for the support and good luck on yours! Keep me posted, I'd love to see it when you're done
Great video! Beautiful bookshelf. I always appreciate when people show their mistakes and how to correct them instead of editing them out and making the process look perfect. Appreciate the honesty. You know have a new subscriber.
Thanks very much, I'm glad you like it! I always try to show any mistakes I make and how to fix it or what I went through for it, if it pertains to the project, we're all human! My bathroom vanity and concrete top were case in point for that. I didn't show too much on those because I panicked and had to work quickly to save the project, but I talked about it and showed the issues after the fact. Anyways, welcome to the crew, thanks very much for joining!
My highschool Woodshop teacher always had us keep a journal for each project. We would plan out operations for each day. I do this for every major project I do to this day 20 years later to keep my workflow smooth.
@@JessedoesDIY Do you put project costs anywhere? Trying to find them on your videos. Would be very helpful to know what the cost for your projects are before committing to them :)
I do sometimes, but for this I didn't because lumber has been very volatile lately, especially in Canada again. And what I say today in the video for me, could be quite different for you, especially a year or 2 later for people when prices normalize again. For this unit right now, it doesn't look like it but I've got $475 into it, not including paint or stain because I had them already. Maybe I'll start mentioning that going forward, thanks. Hope that helps
Beautiful book case! Currently looking to build one and this is the clear choice. How far out are the plans looking? You did a great walkthrough step by step, I cant wait to see the measurements. Beautiful job.
Thanks! Glad you like it. Well I have it fully made now in Sketchup, just need to work on making it into plans, but I can send you the raw images with measurements for now. I need to finish my website before I xan fully have plans up and running and I'll be a bit yet on that
@@JessedoesDIY have you wrapped up the plans or have the sketchup files available for this? My oldest daughter has been on a book buying spree lately and is asking for a bookshelf. I would love to build this one for her! I'm happy to pay for the plans as well!
That's a beautiful bookshelf mate. Well done! I'd be interested to know how the site is coming and if the plans are up. The Girls and I are in need of bookshelves and I'm feeling like it's time for me to build one. :) Ps, I love you work.
Thanks so much! I'm glad you like it and the things I do! Well, I've got the bookshelf made up in sketchup for plans and just need the site. I've got things picked out for it but haven't had much time to work on it lately. I know what I want it to look like, now I just need to get it done. I guess that depends on if you're comfortable with building a drawer. I have a very in depth video on how to do it if you want to check it out. For me it's a 50/50 split, I just think that down low like that a drawer makes more sense. Up to you!
@JessedoesDIY thanks for that info Jesse...I ordered all the materials needed and I'm having the materials delivered tomorrow....I ordered 4 extra 2x4x10 boards to screw onto the outside 2x4x8 and 2x4x10 frame to gain that 3 inches I need. I hope that makes sense and does the trick
I like honesty / mistakes and to see how they are fixed. Most RUclipsrs hide their mistakes.
Thanks. Nobody is perfect, so why hide it. I make so many mistakes lol you should watch my concrete vanity top for mistakes. Take care!
@@JessedoesDIY I will do that tonight. I do as well, mistake is my middle name, lol

Great video! And frankly, the "mistake" was even more helpful; I'll be paranoid about that on my project.

What where the costs in materials? Just the wood
Well when I filmed this wood was more expensive so it was $375-$400 for me at the time
