"I would recommend anyone wanting to join the military to go Air Force." I'm Army, I don't blame you.
If you have (what Air Force calls) tech school with Army (what we call Advanced Individual Training aka "AIT"), you'll be glad you joined Air Force as soon as you see that we Army have to be marched around by drill sergeants (again this is *AFTER basic training* ) *EVERYWHERE* outside of class while Air Force trainees are trusted to walk to the DFAC by themselves.... And Army people had to have "battle buddies" with them to even go to the bathroom while Air Force and Navy didn't.
You'll be glad to have joined Air Force instead when you see Army getting made to do mass punishments like push ups for petty things like they're still in basic (I can't say for sure that this NEVER happens with Air Force but definitely I was around and spoke to plenty of Air Force people and they looked on in shock when we had drill sergeants punishing Army trainees). Etc. Etc. Etc

In the U.S. Air Force, we're all striving for a mission greater than ourselves. But like in any environment, there can be whispers and labels. One you might hear? "Kiss ass." But let's realign our perspective.
Your career in the Air Force isn't about pleasing peers. It's about commitment to duty, dedication to excellence, and always pushing forward for the greater good. While it's natural to seek validation from those around you, remember: many of those peers won't be beside you throughout your entire journey. They won't be there at your retirement ceremony or when you look back on a career full of achievements.
Don't dim your dedication or mute your motivation for fear of what others might say. When you focus on impressing the mission and upholding our core values, the right people will take notice, and those who don't? They're simply not on your flight path.

I did 14 years in the Navy right out of high school. The hardest part is growing up in service. If you have trauma or were otherwise struggling emotionally, the military will bring all of that out, especially if you take up drinking. We didn't have mental health diagnoses like the current generation, so it took military life to bring it out. But if you are committed, the military will make you a better person all around. I've been out for 13 years and I still have some of the same habits like getting places early and cursing. Otherwise, take advantage of the benefits. Take classes, volunteer for leadership positions that will go on your resume later. Learn your job, and be a subject matter expert. It's not hard and is like any other job, except it's a fraternity that you will always be proud you joined. And make sure you document EVERYHING.

I was told that SG denied my vision waiver due to unspecified keratitis. My recruiter told me that they did not give me a reason to qualify. I don’t believe I have that, but I’m getting a second opinion from another optometrist. The optometrist told me keratitis isn’t permanent, so I shouldn’t be denied if it gets treated. Is it possible for me to get this waiver approved after being denied by SG? Do they normally approve waivers if the condition is treated?

Saw this a while ago which explained my experience in the army What is it like being in the Army?
Oh I'm glad you asked. Imagine being told your group
of people have to eat this large pot of chicken broth in
an hour. Too easy right? And everyone is handed a
knife, a spoon, and a fork. And it's just chicken broth.
So your First Sergeant is so excited he grabs the fork
and starts eating. Then tells everyone else to do the
same. But you, only being a private but having had
experience eating broth before are like, "hey we
should use the spoons," but everyone else is like, "well
First Sergeant said use the fork." "But the spoon
makes more sense. Like that's exactly what it was
made for." And everyone continues to use the fork.
And when it's not working fast enough, someone
suggests you use a mallet. And you just look at the
group, then at the spoon, then back at the group, the
spoon, then you cry as you count down days until your
    contract ends.
    That is the Army

In my experience in the Army, you can get good counselings just about all the time saying your appearance and work output is good....but if you have lousy leadership that doesn't care about you, even if they say your appearance and effort is good, they're not going to recommend you for the promotion board, which means you aren't going to advance in rank to be a NCO.

Man im gonna start by saying tht you should've been more specific about what branch of the military these thing would be useful in. From someone who in the army most of these things make you sould like a blue falcon. The only thing i agree with is being in shape, being muscular and strong supercedes uniform and shaving. Hell if you got combat experience , even more. Uniforms dont matter in combat nor does shaving. Yes you need to look decent but not like you were talking about. Shaving as a poc is a none starter, especially in texas , your gonna shave and then have razor bunps tht are irritated by your own sweat , which also scar. You couldve offered an alternative , like a shaving profile from medical. We didnt get off until 7 or 9 , so neing 15 minutes early really wasnt a priority. Last but not least , never ever volunteer for anything. If you want brownie points tht bad , learn unarmed combat , excel in weapons training , memorize and practice using radio comms and combat life saving skills. Get broly asf and destroy the pt test. You will look good in all the things tht matter because all of the other soldiers are mid .

I am trying to commission and I reached out via email to a recruiter about 10 days ago, I got a general reply providing some details and asking for some info, and I very quickly replied with the pre-screening application they requested (same day). I haven’t heard back, and I am wondering should I call the recruiter # I have and introduce myself, etc or should I wait for them to make contact? Yes you can join if your wife is pregnant. There’s no way to guarantee you’d be home before the delivery of the baby. It will limit you on job opportunities if you don’t have a license. It will also create a burden on your coworkers to have to take you everywhere, unless your base has a good bus/transportation system. So I always recommend people get their license prior to joining.

@@Jodywithawhy I don't know how the Air Force works compared to the Army. I assume, possibly wrongly, that apparently, most people in the Air Force do not have to know how to drive a humvee or a LMTV to the field or drive around in the motor pool (I might be wrong, but I'm pretty sure most Air Force does not have to do that), so I don't know if not having a license in the Air Force would affect someone the same way it would in the Army when it comes to jobs.
But still you are definitely true about being a burden on coworkers to drive you around to different places on post and off.

There’s always a chance you can be denied for any medical condition, but given the distance in time of the issue, you have a good shot. Everything ultimately depends on the medical records and the severity of concussion. I hope that helps.

Yeah convoys are something else I hadn't thought about that apparently most people in the Air Force don't do, that the Army does. Yeah we do some long boring convoys in Army going like 30 miles an hour.
It makes me mad as hell when we are leaving the field after having been in the field for two or three weeks and we are just filthy and can't wait to go back to the rear (garrison), get out of our uniforms, and clean our butts. The last time I was in the field at 101st Fort Campbell, on our last day we were actually threatened that if we weren't camouflaged "enough", our convoy would be forced to turn around and go back to the field as a punishment. I don't know if that actually happened to any of us though. But damn you when you say going on a convoy with Army is the worst thing you've had to do in the Air Force. Damn Air Force.
