As a musician of 50 years I’ve played with hundreds and listened to thousands. Autumn Leaves from this same Live at Blues Alley gig is the most beautiful music moment I’ve experienced in my life. Ever! It seems as though she is breathing Gods voice to us. It’s simply otherworldly. Enjoy for she is the greatest voice you will ever experience. 🎺
I just discovered Eva tonight in a mash up with Angelina Jordan who sang the old Sting song Fields of Gold in Eva’s arraignment. Eva Cassidy didn’t become well known until over two years after she passed. It was England that really launched her career after she was gone. What a talent both voice and guitar. Thanks for your reaction.
Her arrangement of Songbird (Fleetwood Mac) is what I used to sing to my son before he was born almost 20 years ago. Even though this isn’t the same song, her voice always brings me back to that magical time in my life. I’m glad you posted this. It was nice sitting with those precious memories today 💜
I thought no one could match Cyndi Lauper singing 'Time After Time', until I heard Eva Cassidy sing it. She makes this song her own with sadness and despair. Cyndi would be so pleased and amazed to hear Eva sing this
her version of this song absolutely soothes my soul. i can put this song on, close my eyes and all the bad just washes away. thank you for reacting to this song
She's at Blues Alley in DC. where she's from (well, techniclaly Bowie, MD). Whay makes it even more amazing is she had a slight cold durring these performaces.
This is as good as the original if not better. "What a Wonderful World" is astonishing. The words are nothing "amazing" but she makes them matter in the particulars.
Please listen to Eva's version of "Imagine". Somehow she turns a pretentious ode to hopelessness and turns it into a prayer for decency, hope and understanding. Ironic that it took a beautiful young woman who would die in virtual anonymity at 33 to give an overbearing overrated phony like Lennon 's most celebrated song the respect it deserved. Eva Cassidy forever remembered as our Songbird, John Lennon known to those who know as the guy who turned another guy into a vegetable.
The gig this was filmed at is really the only film you will find of her performing (there are a couple of other odd bits floating around but most of the footage we have of her is from this night). She was really nervous on stage and didn't really think much of her talents, she didn't think she was that good. I have this whole gig on dvd (was released as Eva Cassidy: Live from Blues Alley) she was so masturful at making songs her own, and evoking a special, ethereal, emotional quality from songs. My Faves and ones I would really recommend are "Tall Trees in Georgia", "I Know you by heart" and "Kathy's Song"
@@1tishhead without going to check if each song is uploaded I'm not sure but it has What a wonderful world, cheek to cheek, people get ready, you've changed, time after time, honeysuckle Rose, Autumn leaves, stormy Monday, Tall trees in Georgia and over the rainbow. It definitely has some bits of her talking a little bit introducing the next song which you don't always get in what's uploaded on RUclips. Also I was wrong, the dvd is Eva Cassidy Sings (one of the posthumous released albums was Live at Blues Alley)
@@amyrcoombes86 Thanks! I remember the first time I heard Eva, I was at a listening station in Borders Books. Was wondering what it was going to look like for other folks to see a 6 foot 4 guy in his 30s crying.

No Doubt
Indeed. Autumn Leaves. Don't miss it.

She hits a note in her cover that I swear could break glass.

Eva had an amazing way of taking songs and making them her own while still keeping the spirit of the original.
Up next: Fields of Gold and Autumn Leaves.
Autumn leaves is amazing.
I love the woman. I wish she would have been with us little longer to see what she would have given us. her voice is so angelic.

The best song on the Blues Alley album in my opinion is Nightbird.
I can't recommed just one song from Eva. Every song she performed was perfect.
Eva Cassidy's version of Song Bird is a must listen.
You need to check out her covers of "Fields of Gold" and "Early Morning Rain".
What she sings she owns.
Great Reaction! Love her rendition of Time after Time For a more upbeat jazzy Song is Stormy Monday ⛈

That was Awesome, Wow too bad she is gone
A note, this song was written by Sting. Eva just covered it.
Hoped you'd do this one. It's so beautiful
Do Eva's version of Fields of Gold
Danny Boy is also a tear jerker.
Next - Fields of Gold
Listen to her version of Fields of Gold!
Very beautiful arrangement. Though it is rather melancholy.
Danny Boy, for sure
It’s like she’s singing it in her living room. Very intimate and beyond beautiful. Eva is just so magnificent. 🎺

Does the DVD have anything that isn't on YT?
