Get ready for tomorrow, Nigel! In ºF tomorrow, there will be a high in the low to mid 50's and lows in the teens with a rapid drop in temperature in the mid to late morning! Be prepared for strong winds rapidly increasing through the morning! I hope you are doing well, your videos are my therapy! I started bonsai a year ago because of you, and I've already learned so much!
I wonder if it would be practical to put the roots in a bucket of water before you start to rake them out, in order to get rid of some soil and see what you have to deal with a bit easier 🤔 I'm a newbie so there are so many things to think and wonder about😃
A fused twin trunk tree. Nice. I wonder if you could have just cut them apart and have 2 separate trees. Seemed like an equal amount of roots on each trunk. It was just a thought. Now the repotting of the twin trunk is a nice touch. Spring on the way for nice growth for you.
Good thing it made all those roots for you to cut off! Must have heard you make the last video where you didn't have enough to cut off Eh?! Haha! Can't wait to see this one develop!
Quite the project. I confess the ever shifting shadows were distracting and blocked some of your work. But this is the first time I have had any issues with your videos! so I will quit caviling and enjoy. Thanks for inspiring the rest of us to be bold. So many roots cut off and yet so many left. This is hardly a "stick in a pot" as you have described other trees that have fallen under your spell. It is going to be interesting to follow this tree's development.
I will eagerly follow the progress of your tree. I wonder how long it will take for the first signs of corking to appear on the bark. Looking forward:)
Oh my lord Nigel!! I think you may have cut the most roots that I have ever seen you cut off a tree. I know you like to have nice radial roots but oh my. I know in the long run this tree is going to be a absolutely beautiful piece with your care and knowledge. All your trees are beautiful and I’m really jealous. I’ve been doing bonsai for about six years they are getting their slowly but surly. I love your video’s and your patience also how you describe everything you do. Great work thank you for all you do.💐
Oh my, can't wait to see where this journey will lead the maple in the following years. The flair of the root base is very interesting already! In case you didn't forget, decide against or did it off camera: some of your cutting paste would probably do well on that big wound right above the roots :)
I'm always amazed on how much you cut from the root. how do you keep the tree alive after? I've done this a few times and they always end up dropping all the leaves then dying soon after. So I end up keeping a large portion of the roots.
You scratched the heck out of your jade trunks to replicate scars from elephants. It looked pretty tuff! I wonder if you can disguise the wire mark with the same method?
This species of Maple will be really interesting to see develop over the coming years...I better cut back on my fatty foods to make sure I can :)
Xav you’ve got years left stop stressing 😂❤
Ahhh nigel. You are the bob ross of bonsai art, so relaxing, thanks much for sharing :)
Wow! That pot produced a tremendous amount of roots for you on this tree.

It's snowing right now, what a change in the weather!!!
Great looking root system so far!
Hi Nigel! Seeing you work away at a root system always gives me the confidence to do the same on my trees.
Be sure to baby them until they recover!!!
@@TheBonsaiZone When I do root work I always make sure to baby them afterwards.

That’s gonna be a stunning tree when it barks up Nigel!
Be sure to post updates.
Thanks John, so far it's doing well!!

Nice pot that ended up in. My wife would love it
Well that pot worked much better than the square root-maker pot!

Thanks so much, yes quite a reduction!!
Hi Nigel! Weren’t you tempted to divide the 2 trunks into 2 trees as they already had some roots of their own on them?
They looked at home together and were well fused, so a twin trunk it is!!
I like that 🙂
That was brutal!😂
Nice structure on the tree. I think it'll look great when it grows older.
Thanks...
The trees are doing well!!
Arakawa is top five maple for me! Deshojo, Katsura, Shishigashira and Sharps Pygmy in no particular order……..
Nice tree Nigel.

Beautiful tree, Nigel. Thank you!!

Buen trabajo en las raíces para formar el nebari en ese doble tronco que seguro brotará muy bien. Gracias.
Any update on temple penjing
Its roots are probably taking over the plant room by now!
Awesome just dug up a burning bush last night
7:18 great point
Thanks!!

I think so, I'll see if the scars grow out first before I try that!
Those trunk wire marks are like the anti of the scars you created on you jade, attempting to hide the rings 😂
Holy roots Batman!
Yes indeed Kale, wait until you see the Wisteria!!
@@TheBonsaiZone doesn't make me look forward to the two big ones I have tangled together from Wayne's old backyard that I dug up before he moved.
👍👌👌
Your talk about the weather sounds a lot like here "Welcome to spring. it's summer one day, winter the next.
It's back to winter here now!!
How is it looking now Nigel?
Dam missed it
Apologies because I’m sure it’s been asked before, but where can we buy that amazing combo metal root rake and chopstick?
It was from a second hand store, I wish I could find another!!

Good afternoon. Your Arakawa maple in a Goldilocks’ pot, in its Goldilocks’ spot, to grow happily ever after! Thank you. 🪴
