As always, love your videos. If there was an academy award for bonsai videos, you would be the winner for sure!!!!!!
Nigel, I still gasp when you root prune the way I used to gasp when watching Tony (Tony's Bonsai) bending branches. I have root pruned as drastically as you very recently on small trees but still can't bring myself to bend branches as drastically as Tony did. A brilliant video yet again.
I think we all gasp when Nigel does his drastic root pruning....😮😮
Mentioning Tony will automatically give you a like 😊
I guess I need to bring my Jade in. Its about to get a bit icy along the California coast! I get really excited whenever the weather is stormy! Our winters are cold but rarely drop below freezing so my trees can be outside all year round except any tropicals or desert plants I will train in the future. I planted some black spruce seeds I got for Christmas this winter, but I don't know if they will like our hot summers. Fingers crossed. I love the humor you put into your updates and videos of your French Lilac! It helps improve the learning environment!
Haha Nigel qui parle français 😂 tu a fait ma journée I like IT a lot lolll
Très courageux de ta part
Awwww! Bon travail Nigel! J'adore cette arbre!
Merci beaucoup mon ami!
Lisa
17°tropical weather😂😂😂here in Oz that's a mild winters day!
Yaaaaaay!!! Frenchie returns!!! Lol It's the only time I hear the accordion music!
It's always nice to stumble across a premiere after a cold days doing repots. Nice start for these saplings :)
So fun to hear you speak french at the beginning Nigel, Hi from France my friend, always a pleasure (and a privilege ) to watch your videos 😎👌👍
Many thanks and Merci!!!
lilac is quickly becoming one of my fav trees for bonsai. they have year long things too look at.. and they are tuff little trees as well
Cup of tea and watching a great video this evening.
You are the best at root work. The wealth of knowledge you impart and your level of bravery is amazing.... 🎉🎉🎉
Belle petite tour Eiffel, have a nice trip in Paris, lol...j'adore ton introduction pour cette nouvelle vidéo, Allez, let's go to continue my wathing...
Wow what a reminder of how to " Nigelize" a root ball gives me courage for my pruning this spring
Glad to know that the pomegranates I started last year are better off getting a root prune this year. I appreciate your knowledge everytime I start worrying about my next steps on my bonsai.
Not long ago you said someothing about forums. Today I hear you talk about taking care of small seedlings. One of the things i like about your channel. is that there is a lot of channels out there where you see someone starting a tree. Many of them, there is never any picks of work on established trees or update, follow ups on started treees or the like. This makes you wonder if they have even had any trees survive.
Over time your collection of maples is becoming quite varied and interesting. Look forward to seeing them in the fall as their colors come out.
One of Your best! I love repotting season.
Glad you enjoyed it!
The roots developed really nicely after that fairly severe repot before! Great root base so far 🙂
Always a treat
A very productive day Nigel, and a very entertaining lesson. As always. Cheers
Nice repotting of the last two trees. I am glad the pots came in useful for you. Spring around the corner and these trees will give out some good growth.
Bonsai shuffle is right around the corner....❤❤
Looks like we are in sync when it comes to lylac repotting. Repotted mine also the last days. And indeed, they root really well as cuttings! (I am now growing a root over rock lylac, should be interesting in a few years!
Good looking roots
very beautiful!!!
I'm much more daring about root pruning since I started watching you.❤❤ But I still feel conservative at times in my pruning. Sometimes I'll decide that I'll do more in a year..
Cool FL with the Eiffel Tower next to it.
Great repots! That lilac will be a winner I think! It's already like, forming well... Not sure how to put that. Can already see the future in it.
Thanks Marysol, I hope the music continues!!!
@@TheBonsaiZone Yes! Exactly this!
Bonjour!
I would love to see an update on the jade plant that you pruned back on the 27th of June last year Nigel. I pruned several of my own in the same way and would love to see how yours is turning out.
Thanks Barry, updates will be coming, remember every tree has a playlist, so you can also check for updates there!
Mantap👍👍👍
The buds are starting to push!!!!
❤😊
Molto ben fatto sign. Saunders
Hello Nigel,
What percentage of perlite to turface do you do? Also is that the same for larger trees? I have salvaged some large yews from the local dump.
Thanks for your time
It’s more or less 50-50 with small pinch of bark sometimes. Depends if Nigel have bark. And yes, it’s for all trees.
@@Thimbrethil Thank you very much
I'm new at bonsai. I have learned a lot from your videos. You may have covered this already. Do you mix your own soil blend or do you purchase it premixed?
Bonjour Nigel, i got a uncommon question, have you ever been to Paris ?
My lilac has not flowered yet. I'm told it's because it doesn't see cold down here. 40°f is the lowest it's seen.
Beau travail. De quelle couleur seront les fleurs?
😂

Hello Nigel,
Will you be giving an update on your Bald Cypress?
Thanks!
Yes, I hope to get it repotted soon!! It looks good so far!
i watched you repot some trees and noticed you never use any wirings to hold them. why...love your posts..
Good idea to add the Eiffel Tower for scale...
👍👌👌
🇫🇷
Nigel, I notice you use black training pots...I heard that black pots get really hot and can kill your roots...Obviously not because you seem to use them all the time...Can you way in on this topic for outside full sun trees...Thanks...
Black pots can definitely get really hot in the sun. Frequent watering will help keep the trees cool and if the tree has a good canopy, it helps shade the pot. I have been using tinfoil on the top of the pot to help keep it cool!
@@TheBonsaiZone - So would it be better to try and avoid black pots for lighter colors (Tara-cotta)? My sun is full from 9:00 - 1:00 and I watering the mornings about 6:00 so thew trees are moist for the day...Thanks for your insights...
Life also fly
It is a derastic . I have bad memories with such a derastic root prunning. Mine did not survive.
My trees are going outside later today
Lows in the low 30s F, highs in the 50-60-70s in the ten day forecast
Not talking about tropicals obviously
Spring is springing. Have fun
