My first car was a traveller AEM 930 B you had to lift your feet up going through puddles because the floor was shot. The next car was also a traveller EEM 64 E I rebuilt the engine, replaced the gear box and replaced lots of the ash frame only to have an Irish gypsy back a truck load of scrap into the side and turn it over with me in it. I had a friend who was a bit of a mad mechanic and he transformed his moggy 1000. He put a 1600 cc engine in, disc brakes, rear torsion bar, flared the arches to fit big wheels it went like a rocket.

That Capri 2.8I 🤤. My father gave me his old Capri 2.0 GT MK2 when I finished university in 1982, loads of happy memories in what was quite a rapid car for its time. My mates referred to it as a Ford Crappy, I laughed with them because I knew that in reality they were jealous.
I really could see Rob picking up parts in the A35 van, might take a bit longer (not much though given how speed limits are dropping every week it seems), but that would be a fantastic advertisement for the business. (are vintage cars ULEZ exempt?)

Thank you for sharing your time with us, I remember my brother's Austin Healey Sprite was a massive welding project while it was just 12 years old at the time. We only did about 10 miles in it before the start of welding but it was fun. The 280z Datsun had a straight 6 by the way, one of those engines that was increased in capacity a few times to try to make up some of the power lost due to emissions stuff. A friend had a Griffith 500 stashed in my garage a while, about as sensible as getting Fred West to babysit. He did say "if you take it out be very careful" unusually I decided it would be smart to leave it in the garage and just run the engine once a month. Really enjoy your videos, I am a bit older so probably know the ancient cars better.

I think some of those have been in before but as you say Rob someone bought a car and enjoyed it and put it back through the auction. So it isn't always a case that something didn't sell. The Cavalier Sports Hatch is basically an Opel Manta minus an alloy sports steering wheel and some slots in the front nose cone. I owned the Manta back in the day and loved it. They are very rust prone on the sills and chassis so this one is exceptional. The colour of the yellow MGB is Harvest Gold which was a very popular BL colour in the early to mid 70’s. My mother had an MGBGT example bought new in 1972 in this colour.

The Morris Traveller (and the mini’s) had their clocks in the middle so when they were built as a left, or right hand drive, there were less alterations to the build process.

Just love these walkabouts, as for the Laverda's the Jota in early eighties was considered at one time a top superbike.

    • @particlecloud
      @particlecloud Год назад

I remember the Jota. Well reviewed at the time and for a while it was a leading contender for top dog on straight line performance. I was tempted to buy one but went for a slightly cheaper and more practical Le Mans Mk II instead. Turns out the Jota engine was not as well engineered as it could have been and as a classic bike purchase the shortcomings can surface very expensively if you are not careful.

That Mini convertible definitely looks like a genuine Rover car, they were built by Lamm Autohaus in Germany, they’d been converting Mini’s since the 1980’s but then Rover approached them to build them as a limited run. They were expensive back in the day and can be worth a fortune if in good condition.

Another great video guy's, brought back a lot of fond memories for me!. Lost my dad when I was 9yrs old, so my big brothers took on the role!. My eldest brother had his own garage business and taught me how to drive in an MG Midget, his first car was an Austin A35 van which was side swiped by a lorry, while my dad (who borrowed it!) was in a cafe having breakfast! 🤭.
At 17yrs I drove my brothers white Rover 2000TC and got tugged by the police who searched the car and found a boot full of empty shotgun cartridges (I swear I knew nothing about them!) that took some smooth talking! 😙.
Thanks for the ride down memory Lane!. 👍👍

Love these auction walk arounds, brings back all the memories of the cars that were about when I was a kid. Some really tasty motors in the sale. Chris is like a kid in a sweet shop 👍😂

Couple of words on engines - the Datsun 280ZX was an inline 6, not a V6, that's why the bonnet was so bloody long!!! The Vanden Plas Princess was a superior way to travel, relatively speaking. It was at the top of the BMC range, bigger and better than the Moris Oxford or the Austin Cambridge, and came with walnut dash, door trims and rear seat trays, airline style, plus if you got the Princess R you got a 4litre Rolls Royce engine for your trouble. Superbly comfortable ride, it was a bit of a barge, but a luxury one!!
A real trip down memory lane with these vids - it might be interesting to do a follow up vid on the prices achieved, along with possibly, Chris's new toy!!!👍👍

TVR famous for the main safety feature of a sign fitted on the dash. "DONT CRASH" I think Mr Clarkson started that story. Sprites and Midgets were the same car with different badges.

Hi Guys, thanks for a great video which I've only just found time to watch.
At 24:09 I spotted a silver Lancia Thema, reverse parked against the fence and hemmed in by the blue VW Golf convertible.
I know you'll probably roll your eyes but, these are wonderful, fast, luxury (but usually overlooked) cars. How about putting in a silly bid if ever one comes up again?
I feel reasonably sure that you'll find multiple buyers within the Lancia Motor Club.
