- This is compilation of tutorials for you to crochet a Granny Hexagon Cardigan using any yarn, any hook, and to any size! It is an easy tutorial that is beginner friendly but I do recommend you already know the basic crochet stitches and have made a granny square before you attempt this. It is a fun project to make and was my first ever garment in 12 years of crocheting.
I use US terminology in my tutorials unless I have stated otherwise!

I appreciate how you stick to the subject and get right to it. Very good.
This is really helpful feedback, Thankyou
I found a dozen hexagon cardigan tutorials, but this is easily the clearest one, and I keep coming back to it. You also have a speaking style as you teach that makes it so, so easy to remember the steps, even if I'm away from RUclips: it's a beautiful singsong prosody to your delivery (I can still hear the rhythm of your "yarn OVER, pull through, YARN over and-pull-through" from your granny square tutorial). In this video, your "three double-crochet, chain one, three double crochet" is so consistently rhythmic that it's locked into my head and makes the pattern incredibly easy to remember.
Thankyou so much for this feedback! As this is one of my early tutorials it’s good to hear that it’s still a good one as I feel like they’ve improved a lot.
You are an excellent crocheter. And a precise teacher. I am an adventurous crocheter not possessing the verve and skills you illustrated but I have saved this video for when my skills increase. Your sweater is bespoke and excellently so! Thank you!
this might actually be my fave tutorial, your instructions were very simple and clear!! thank you so much 🫶🌸
I’m so glad you’ve gotten along with this tutorial, enjoy making your cardi 🥰
Thank you very much for this wonderful tutorial. You have a lovely voice!
Thankyou, I never liked my voice before posting on social media and people saying they like it so Thankyou for saying so 🥰
Brilliant tutorial, easy to understand and follow. I’ve just finished mine ❤
Glad it was helpful and congrats on finishing your cardigan. Such an achievement 😊
I’m now making another cardigan and await any more wearables x
I saw this cardigan in another video of yours and I can't stop looking at it. I'm so glad you made a tutorial for this cardigan. I will try crochet this soon! ❤
Yay I’m so happy this has helped you. It’s definitely a quick and fun project! I love how customisable it is. Good luck with your cardi ❤️🧶
I really like this crochet granny cardigan, it is very nice, I can hardly wait for your written copy of your crochet cardigan sweater. Thank you kindly.
I have been seeing this hexi cardi on facebook and wanted to make one, have watched several tutorials on them but yours is the best I have found. I have a hat to finish for my daughter and then I am starting my cardi using your directions. So easily explain and understand. Your showing each step up close is such a great help. Thank You Very Much.
You’re welcome 😊
Amazing. I will give it a try
This is the best video of this sweater. I can’t wait to make mine now.
I’m so glad this has been helpful. Good luck!
Just saved on my playlist. Definitely will try to crochet one for myself! 😊 Don't know when but I will.
Yay so exciting. It’s such a great project
I really like it it's simple and easy, I have saved it in my crochet playlist and Im definitely gonna make one or maybe two for next winter ❤ thank you so much it's really helpful
You are very welcome and enjoy making them! They work up quite quickly
Best crochet videos I’ve found. Where all do you post videos, I don’t want to miss any!
Hi Rachel Thankyou so much! I do have lots of previous tutorials on tiktok but I have moved over to RUclips now so will all be on RUclips. I upload new tutorials every Friday and bonus videos here and there too!! So RUclips is the best place right now. I have a Facebook group and I usually pop a post in there when a new tutorial goes up. All my links are at linktr.ee/meemamakes
This is so clear. Thank you.
You are welcome 😊
Thank you so much for this tutorial I've needed this ❤
You’re welcome. Happy hooking ❤️
Oh really lovely! Your cardigan looks just right, not straight at all and the sleeves are fantastic indeed! Thanks so much for sharing.
Thankyou I was so pleased with it. The yarn has pilled so bad though 🙁 guess I’ll make another 😂
Yes, so recognisable. Good luck with the new one :) Autumn is almost here, maybe a project during the cosy evenings?
@@sparkledarkle. great idea! I’m working on a granny square cardigan now but after that would be perfect
Thank you. 😊
Love it. Thank you
I have always wanted to make one of these for myself. You have a lovely speaking voice and you’re just cute as a button!
I’m commenting to try and help you with your algorithm because you deserve it ❤❤❤
Thankyou so much!! ❤️❤️
I appreciate Ur work ❤❤❤❤
I am ironically almost the exact body shape as you, and I have a very similar yarn color that I wanted to make into a simple cardigan, lol! Just found this video, I think I want to give it a try!
Yay this is so great. Good luck on your cardi journey 😁
Soo cute ❤❤❤❤
Waouw. Merci très beau travail.❤❤
Beautiful..thank you

Nicole from The Thread - a Knitting Podcast recommended your channel and i can see why. This is beauuuutiful and now i'm wondering what yarn I have in my stash. 😊
That’s awesome! I love Nicole, her content is my podcast goals! Good luck with your cardi, it’s quite a quick make 🥰

Im 16:10 when you decrease the sleeve did you do dc2tog all around ?
I'm a newbie why do you turn in between rounds? Beautiful tutorial btw!!
Because crochet stitches slant slightly so if they all face the same way on a large project the centre can skew around and the sides don’t stay straight. By alternating you counteract that. Hope that makes sense!
Love love love it! Is there a way to get a hoodie on it?
Yes you could crochet one and sew it on. I’m sure there are some patterns out there for one
@@meemamakes thank you so much!
is the extension for the back of the hexagon done on both hexagon pieces please.
Yes it is to keep it symmetrical
If u would of made it larger would of added more rows to back? Or
made more rows to close front?
You can make this larger in a few different ways - you can make the hexagons bigger, add more rows the the back, add more rows to the length so it completely depends on you body shape and desired fit. You can customise it as you go by keeping trying it on 😊
Hello! I loved your tutorial! I'm working on a Granny Hexagon shirt which is pretty similar to the cardigan I just have shorter sleeves. I noticed that on my shirt the back of it sticks out at an angle when my arms are down at my sides but when my arms are stretched out horizontally the back of my shirt lays flush with my back. Any ideas what may be wrong here? And any suggestions for fixing the back so it lays flush all the time? Thank you!
I don’t think I’ve had this issue. Did you do the extra rows at the back of the neck? It might be that you did too many. Is it the whole cardigan that sticks out, or just the top or bottom? 🤔
@@meemamakes thanks for getting back to me 😁 Yes I do have a few extra rows at the back. Initially I did a mattress stitch to join and then tried the method of joining using granny cluster stitches (like how the rest of the shirt is made). Good call on the extra neck width, could be that!
The back sticks out about half way down my back, almost like the point of the triangle and the tip is the join (was the same for the mattress join & granny cluster).
@@tobynomates hmmmm I’m not sure what else it could be. I’m not too familiar with garment construction and the granny hex cardigan (or shirt) doesn’t have any shaping that features in many garments so it could be that? I’m so sorry I can’t be anymore help
@@meemamakes yep I hear ya. No problem at all on not knowing. I'll look at adjusting the neck width again to see if it helps. Thanks for chatting to me about this and also thank for all your great content, really enjoying it! 🎉
Ive just found you, i am in northeast england, i am loopy loop if you fancy hopping over ❤❤
Do you have a written pattern for this cardigan? I love it
I don’t (yet!) but there are lots of patterns out there for cardigans like this if you search for it 😊
Could I ask you how much wool cup did this cardigan take??
I used just under 10 balls of James C Brett Chunky with Merino, used a 6mm hook, and I have a 48" bust for size reference.
Can someone tell me how many yards a large size would take? Thank yooou.
Sorry I cannot answer this with specifics - it is like asking how long is a piece of string. Totally depends on what size yarn you’re using, what size hook, what your tension is, and what you mean by “large”. Also depends on if you’re extending it or not.
I am a 48” bust, used chunky yarn, and a 6mm hook, and I used just under 1500m. I recommend either buying more than you estimate, especially if you’re using thicker yarn, or buy a yarn that you can easily buy more of. That’s the best answer I can give!
What if u don’t want the sleeves very wide but the front isn’t big enough? 😬
There isn’t really a solution to this as the construction of this sort of cardigan is to have big sleeves, if you have small sleeves the body will be small too!! You could try something like the Granny Go Round Cardigan pattern by Iron Lamb. That’s granny stitch in rows rather than a hexagon and it will be easier to customise a cardigan worked in rows like that. Hope this helped!
Is there a written pattern for this cardigan? 🤞🏻
It’s in the works, but will be at least a few weeks away if not longer as it’ll need to go through testing!
Do you have the pattern written out yet?
No, my patterns involve a lot of photos so I’ll need to make another to photograph along the way. I am struggling to find a good chunky yarn for the next cardigan. This cardigan pills so much and the other one I started I had a reaction to the yarn. If you have any suggestions I’d love to hear it!!
I wish I could. But I don't find the same yarn 😢
Any yarn will do! This yarn has pilled so o wouldn’t recommend it.
I tried other yarn for other projects and the size turned out totally different. Was no fun at all.😢
@@marionwilk4847 oh how annoying. I’m hoping to make another in thinner yarn to make a slower tutorial soon so that might help you
That would be awesome ❤
What size are you making
Hi, I have a 48 inch bust and the finished cardi is a little small on me. It can definitely be adjusted to any size though
@@meemamakes Thanks for answering❤... I think I have the same size bust😊I'm going to try making it.
@@samanthadavis1180 good luck! I recommend to keep trying it on and adjusting as you go. It’s a great pattern for that!
@@meemamakes Thank you.
I will🤗
Hi. I'm trying this cardigan, but I've done it in 17 rows, like on your video, but mine looks so small in comparison to yours?
What size yarn and hook are you using? It could also be due to tension as well, you might crochet tighter than me. Just add more rows until it gets to the size you want it to be!
Ive tried this at least 5 times and for some reason it turns into a circle instead of a square I don't get it
You're either not doing enough corners or too many corners. If you need any help or advice then do send over a photo so I can help see where you are going wrong. You can do that via DM on instagram or post in the Meema Makes Crochet Community facebook group.
Would you please inform me how much yarn grams did it it take to make it? It would be more helpful to prepare almost the exact amount to make it
I used 950g of James C Brett Chunky with merino. I am a UK size 20-22 and the cardi is slightly small on me. I hope this helps!
@@meemamakes yes it does Im almost your size so this is really helpful thank you so much ❤
@@manerubelcute9441 yay hope you enjoy making it 🥰
Plis translate to write to Polish
I’m so sorry I don’t speak polish so I can’t translate 🙁
You're speaking quite fast in the video, making it hard to keep up. I look forward to the written pattern you promise for the future.
Yes I am as it was for tiktok where fast content is more popular. I will be making another cardigan like this for writing the pattern and will be refilming this tutorial slower and more beginner friendly for RUclips. I’m hoping this will be in a few weeks time 😁
@@meemamakeswe will wait bestie
@@iqraaslam4988 Thankyou ❤️
put it on pause...even slower would need to be paused...I prefer this
This is informative but not a fan of the Tik Tok small format.
I have now transitioned fully over from tiktok and now only make tutorials for RUclips so if you’ve subscribed to my channel you won’t see anymore in this format in the future
@@meemamakes oh good. I'll subscribe and check out your other videos.
