  • This is compilation of tutorials for you to crochet a Granny Hexagon Cardigan using any yarn, any hook, and to any size! It is an easy tutorial that is beginner friendly but I do recommend you already know the basic crochet stitches and have made a granny square before you attempt this. It is a fun project to make and was my first ever garment in 12 years of crocheting.

    I found a dozen hexagon cardigan tutorials, but this is easily the clearest one, and I keep coming back to it. You also have a speaking style as you teach that makes it so, so easy to remember the steps, even if I'm away from RUclips: it's a beautiful singsong prosody to your delivery (I can still hear the rhythm of your "yarn OVER, pull through, YARN over and-pull-through" from your granny square tutorial). In this video, your "three double-crochet, chain one, three double crochet" is so consistently rhythmic that it's locked into my head and makes the pattern incredibly easy to remember.

      Because crochet stitches slant slightly so if they all face the same way on a large project the centre can skew around and the sides don’t stay straight. By alternating you counteract that. Hope that makes sense!

    • @meemamakes
      @meemamakes  8 месяцев назад

      You can make this larger in a few different ways - you can make the hexagons bigger, add more rows the the back, add more rows to the length so it completely depends on you body shape and desired fit. You can customise it as you go by keeping trying it on 😊

    Hello! I loved your tutorial! I'm working on a Granny Hexagon shirt which is pretty similar to the cardigan I just have shorter sleeves. I noticed that on my shirt the back of it sticks out at an angle when my arms are down at my sides but when my arms are stretched out horizontally the back of my shirt lays flush with my back. Any ideas what may be wrong here? And any suggestions for fixing the back so it lays flush all the time? Thank you!

    • @meemamakes
      @meemamakes  9 месяцев назад

      I don’t think I’ve had this issue. Did you do the extra rows at the back of the neck? It might be that you did too many. Is it the whole cardigan that sticks out, or just the top or bottom? 🤔

    • @tobynomates
      @tobynomates 9 месяцев назад

      @@meemamakes thanks for getting back to me 😁 Yes I do have a few extra rows at the back. Initially I did a mattress stitch to join and then tried the method of joining using granny cluster stitches (like how the rest of the shirt is made). Good call on the extra neck width, could be that!
      The back sticks out about half way down my back, almost like the point of the triangle and the tip is the join (was the same for the mattress join & granny cluster).

    • @meemamakes

      @@tobynomates hmmmm I’m not sure what else it could be. I’m not too familiar with garment construction and the granny hex cardigan (or shirt) doesn’t have any shaping that features in many garments so it could be that? I’m so sorry I can’t be anymore help

    @sweetdanipea 10 месяцев назад

    Can someone tell me how many yards a large size would take? Thank yooou.

    • @meemamakes
      @meemamakes  10 месяцев назад +1

      Sorry I cannot answer this with specifics - it is like asking how long is a piece of string. Totally depends on what size yarn you’re using, what size hook, what your tension is, and what you mean by “large”. Also depends on if you’re extending it or not.
      I am a 48” bust, used chunky yarn, and a 6mm hook, and I used just under 1500m. I recommend either buying more than you estimate, especially if you’re using thicker yarn, or buy a yarn that you can easily buy more of. That’s the best answer I can give!

    What if u don’t want the sleeves very wide but the front isn’t big enough? 😬

    • @meemamakes
      @meemamakes  Год назад

      There isn’t really a solution to this as the construction of this sort of cardigan is to have big sleeves, if you have small sleeves the body will be small too!! You could try something like the Granny Go Round Cardigan pattern by Iron Lamb. That’s granny stitch in rows rather than a hexagon and it will be easier to customise a cardigan worked in rows like that. Hope this helped!
