Well I think you probably don't see many younger people doing this because of the cost of entry. This game ain't cheap and usually you don't come into disposable income until you're much older.
Sheriton! Thanks buddy. I’ve been at it, just busy in other ways haha. Hope all is well back in the heart land. You better be giving George a hard time!
The bay is salt water right? If so do you have an internal cooling system or do you pull the outside water in for cooling? Any issues if pulling from outside water? Been spending a lot of time out in that area/possibly considering moving out there but have a Formula that I was concerned about running in sat water because it is a fresh water setup. Are there any good jobs out that way working on boats or on the water?
So I bought a $5,000 boat and now $12,000 in parts and materials and registration and fuel later I'm like dang! I guess I don't have a $5,000 boat. As soon as I got the boat home I needed to put four new tires on it, then I needed to add a new master cylinder to trailer. I needed to add a new main support beam to the trailer, as well as all new brake lines, new brakes, new hubs. Took it out for maiden voyage and it puked oil all over the bilge. I had to remove the engine so that I could replace the timing cover gasket and the oil pan gasket, also replace the rear main seal+ all the fluids, all the new bellows parts, the new fluids, the new water pump parts, new propeller ... all of that stuff adds up over time...And I did all the work myself too!!! You've bought so many parts for your $15,000 boat plus the cost of renting that truck to drive across country. I also had to drive down to North Carolina from MD to do the engine work (no riom in town home parking lot). I'm in Germantown.. ..anyway so all that gas that was expensive+ the TowUS. plan, the insurance, the registration, taxes, title ..... wondering what you're into it now for? My $5,000 boat has nowgot me hit for $12K in additional expenses as mentioned before. I actually still feel like I got a deal because I know exactly what is going on with the boat and if I paid more for something else I might would have still had to do all this stuff anyway so I'm glad I got in at five grand because it seems to me folks got to do this kind of stuff anyway no matter what price you started at.
It’s all a part of the deal. I couldn’t buy a boat in the condition mine is now with all the amenities and runs 40 kts for less than $100k. Im in it for less than half that.
@@BoatRestorationByBen I feel ya and agree! I still say that if you paid a $80k or $100k for something similar there's no guarantee that it wouldn't have some issue come up within the first 6 months like bad exhaust manifolds which ruins an engine, or bad coupler because the engines were misaligned. So I still like to get into them cheap and then just do the work, get it to where I know what I have. To a point.... I try to stay away from flooded stuff with electrical gremlins or bad transoms or stringers where possible. Buena suerte sir
Very very cool! I'm restoring a 1987 27' Mirage Intimidator with twin 350 Mercs. It's a project bigger than me. It's a "1/2 Life Crisis." I admire your motivation. Keep it going!
Good work, I was about to say still got a put the upholstery back on but I’m sure that’s next on the list is this Comment is only a couple weeks old. Cheers
try looking into the bravo xr propellers the rear propeller is 4 blade and the front propeller is 3 blade, i put a set on my friends 26 crowline made a big improvement on getting the boat to plane faster and also cruising speed was incredible and helped with fuel consumption also...
You should make a short piece of hose with a fitting for the boat and one for the garden hose with a valve in the middle then you can turn off the water and change to the other fitting without having to walk over to the turn-off then walking back to the boat and changing to the new fitting then walking back to the turn the walking back to the boat etc. you just turn off the hose at the valve change the fitting and turn the valve back on ..
Love the channel. Been watching your sea ray restoration as I restore my sea ray. just saw the St. Pats sweatshirt too, fellow S&T grad too now living in FL. Good luck.
Looking great! Been tuned in from the beginning… hope to see y’all down at the ozarks sometime! I bet the bay out there is smoother water than we got around MM 8 😂
I tell you what, the bay is glass most days unless its windy. The LOTO truly does create its own ocean due to the narrow channel. There are a ton of big boats going fast and making huge waves but its such a vast scape out here that you just slow down for one set of waves then keep going without encountering anything for 30+ minutes. Only thing I'm missing is the fresh water and incredible dockside bars!
I think you are running your lower unit water pump impellers dry by using those flush attachments. Those impellers push water up to the engine. The flush valves aren’t meant to crank the engine with.
There aren’t any impellers in my lower units. The water pump impeller is mounted after the flush fitting connection so when I’m hooked up to the hose, I’m pumping water directly into the engine cooling loop. The first thing the water hits in that loop is the rubber water pump impeller.
Think of it this way. When I’m hooked up to the hose, I’m bypassing the water pick up hose from the sterndrive. Since there’s no impeller in the Bravo 3 sterndrives, I’m not damaging anything. I use a cool valve called the Perko Pro Flush Valve.
I first caught this channel watching the Cyclone engine swap... just curious... this was actually your channel since I found it looking for part four of the engine swap... looks like you moved to Maryland my home state. I couldn't tell which river you were on?
They were a further improvement on top of the 26 pitch props I tired. I am now doing 30 MPH cruise at 3000 RPMs. This should vastly improve my range and fuel consumption.
Where on the Chesapeake are you now? I grew up boating there and am now in Missouri for medical school! Funny stuff. Miss the Chesapeake tho. Nothing like it.
Hi there, I appreciate you explaining everything very simply. What is the status of your upholstery? You said a couple months ago it would be in and I heard you mention something in the video but I don't hear too well and might have missed it
I had to pull it from the guy I had contracted to do it. He couldn’t get it done. It’s now with another contractor under a much more careful watch. Hoping to have some soon!
How much have all these upgrades and repairs cost so far. I am looking into a boat purchase and your videos are up there with the best of them. Keep it up
I haven’t. As I trust the boat more and more we will venture out further. I’ll add that to the list! What is there to do there? Looks like an old man made Island.
It’s so cool to see younger people doing this type of work. The future is bright.
Well I think you probably don't see many younger people doing this because of the cost of entry. This game ain't cheap and usually you don't come into disposable income until you're much older.
Классная яхта молодцы круто удачи вам в востановлении!
Its great that you are so close to the boat ramp.
One perk to living on a peninsula!
Glad to see you back at it Ben. Keep up the good work and the boat is looking great!!

Cool to see this. I’m working on my own boat and am living off the Chesapeake bay. Would be sweet to see you on the water sometime

Ben,
Please stop saying you are not going to tape you working on the boat that’s why we looking at your channel. You can always fast track it❤

Holy crap that was a looooonnnnngggggg back up to the dock. that gave me palpitations.
You’re tellin me
Yachts have sails !!!!! Nothings up , thanks for asking .
In America, there are plenty of power boats called Yachts. The term Yacht is on any boat with an ABYC placard. I’ve seen it as small 26’
Awesome video
Glad you enjoyed it!
Yes I do
Love boats Love to be on the water

Beta couple of short hoses and a y connected save a lot of up and down
In my thinking you guys should get new drivers for it I think it’ll need them
While the microwave out put a cover on the plug back there
Always heard a boat is a hole in the water that you put money in but I still want one
The wrong boat is a waist of money. But you get the right one and it'll last years without costing a fortune. 😊

My buddy and I started it but I moved away and have kept it going with my boat projects. I’ll poke my buddy to make a part 4!
Has anyone mentioned that all those batteries need tie-downs? I didn't see any, and if you get into any rough water, that could be a big problem.
Agreed. I added them. Thank you!
You need to add some new paint to legs and back end
Have you taken her up to Lee's Landing in Port Deposit? Pretty cool spot.
How did you lift the boat to do bottom paint
How did the 28 pitch props do? Did it help your cruising speed?

Noticed your sweatshirt in this video. Did you actually attend Missouri S&T for college?
I did! Mechanical engineer.
How much have all these upgrades and repairs cost so far. I am looking into a boat purchase and your videos are up there with the best of them. Keep it up
My running total including the initial purchase price is about $45,000.
That ac ducting should be insulated
Second vid of yours I watched where you explain you didn’t get content. Last one was the drive replacement. Do you actually catch content ?
Content of the drive blowing up? I didn’t get it on video.
Add sun shade and your away
corrosion gives me anxiety bad.
Do you ever venture to heart miller island?

im looking to buy a big boat where would i find a trailer im guessing it needs a triple axel, where would i look?
Would you like to buy mine? 45’ gooseneck heavy duty bunk trailer.

Hello bos speed bots up2 ok i like you ok👍👍👍👍👍
Dose not matter, what's the weight of your boat, that's a big factor don't wast your money... money pits lol
16,800 lbs. All boats are money pits. Stern drives are tough.
first lets talk for 12 minutes before starting work, then show a little work !!!
klasse
That dash looks like cheap trash
It ain’t great brother. That’s the end goal. Fill multi function displays and proper switches
