Hi. How I can contact you. Need some help..
feels like of all the 996TT owners' take on suspension (per facebook interest group), you might be the very few folks who doesn't use Ohlins / Bilstein PSS9/10 / B8 + H&R 👍
Another solid video. I did pretty much the same job to my 987.2 Cayman S in May. Ohlins coilovers, drop links, and adjustable toe arms and top mounts to get the camber adjustability (instead of having to go to the adjustable GT3 control arms). I didn't do bump steer. Was surprised how accurately I had eyeballed the alignment, but definitely need a pro with equipment to get it truly dialed in. According to a respected Chicago-area Porsche/race shop (and even though they offer the service), having it corner weighted is a waste of money unless you're tracking the car.
I'm probably skipping the corner balance.
Great job! Consider eccentric bolt lockout washers for the rear now you have adjustable links. That way the eccentrics can't slip. Also as someone else said some home made or cheap toe plates mean you can do a basic alignment in 5min.
5:53 LMAO! Yes, true... I am that old that I enjoy that.
A real good "Episode" on the Porsche this time, LIKE!!
I would really like to do sth similar. Will be great to know that the Porsche is again up to its capabilities (and maybe even above) compared to when it was new.
The Control Arms definitely are on my list... in case I buy a 996 again...
nice work Matt, I love watching your videos, you are so well trained mechanically and very organized with your workflow and the 996 is really coming together. saludos desde México!
I appreciate that!
Glad to see you are a Steelers fan ! Sure do miss that squeaky jack and glass cleaner.
LOLOL
Another solid job, Matt! And, you're right about Zuck's latest censorship platform.
Touché on both points, especially the latter. Love Matt for including those quick asides.
Dry ice video for the undercarriage would be awesome!
Just ordered some touch up for my Lexus IS, thank for the recommendation!
Nice!
Something tells me, this is no longer the cheapest 996 in the USA any longer, hahahaha. Love the journey.
I’m certain you’re correct lol
Matt. I’m looking into dry ice blasting also. I’m in york county if you interested in splitting. Most of the time you have to buy a minimum amount of ice and it’s like $500. Could probably do a couple cars
Interested, but not for a few months I'd say.
Another great vid thank you
Hey Matt, gday from Australia. I have been binge watching the Porche rebuild and it has been great. You have good content and great editing. I like how you have re-built a car that most people can get hold of. Hopefully your next one is the same, maybe a Mercedes. Anyway I hope you can figure out a way for us international viewers can enter the comps. Keep the great clips coming.
Thank you! The only way I found was an Amazon or other gift card. Not sure if that’s interesting?
Get toe lock plates to replace the rear eccentric bolts.
The 80s tune reminds me of Abroad in Japan. I thinklk he uses that one a bunch. Works great in your vids, too. The quality of your edits have gotten better and better everytime.
Thank you!
I've loved following this build! And confirms I'll never be able to own one of these lol
Haha, expensive for sure!
Hey Matt. Keep up the great work. Reckon a dry ice detail would be a treat after all the effort.👍
Eventually, yes!
Bit by bit she's coming together nicely Matt, Keep up the good work buddy
Thanks 👍
Looking great, Matt. I'm getting a lot of inspiration for my 997 watching you build your 996. I'd like to get mine riding a lot better for our crappy roads here
Go for it!
If you have pasm on your 997 check out the dsc controller
And Another One! You are like DJ Khaled w these videos. I dont even have a 996 anymore and I still watch. I wish there was a Matt Ross in the Mustang world. You should get a Fox Body Saleen project car, haha.
Haha, well thanks for watching!
We need a video on the NB Miata!
I just had a chuckle while backing my Miata out of the garage to get the mower out and thought of Matt having to jockey cars around in the driveway, then I see the new video!
It's not mine lol
@@matt13ross it would still be cool!
When you're doing toe at home, use some toe plates (home-made work) and a tape measure to measure it and get it close. It'll be worlds different than eyeballing it
Great Job Matt! Some one needs to sponsor you with a dry ice machine so you can dry ice the complete underside of the Porsche when you are done with all the upgrades!!! Keep up the great work!
That would be great!
Agreed
Make sure you do corner balancing. A must with coilovers!
Yep game changer
I'm not so sure it's needed. Maybe if I track it, but still. I bet most people would never notice.
@@matt13ross Yeah 4 sure, but does make a bigger diff than you think
@@matt13ross Why spending 4.5k on coilovers if you are not getting the most out of them? Trust me… you will feel the difference as the car will be more balanced. Money well spent!
I'm willing to commit to purchasing someone off Matt's website if in his next video he puts the QuickJacks on the correct side of the car. WHO IS WITH ME?
Hrm, maybe, just MAYBE!
👌
FURBY PART 4 WHEN
@Matt13Ross Coffin arm & tie rod don't stay parallel because of different pivot points. You probably should recheck angles at ride height on the ground. 👍
I made a home checker with dial indicator for mine. Surprising how stable now hitting a bump in a turn. Maybe your alignment shop can check actual bump steer?
They should be parallel all the time regardless of movement.
@@matt13ross Bump steer happens because the two are not parallel all the time, diff pivot points. That's why bump steer gauge is used when spindle is at ride height. It's subtle, like 1/8" toe change on a bump/droop, but major at speed. 👍
Bro where you find these dope tunes🤣
Epidemic sound lol
*should put headlight covers back on but with 3m trim tape.*
I never had covers on
I had 3 out of 4 thrust arm inner bushings completely shot
Mine seems very tight
Someone sponsor Matt some hand wipes please!!! You got to keep those new parts clean 😂😂
HAHA
I see NB Miata you automatically get a like!
I see you're a man of great taste, class and sophistication. 😉
Haha, awesome!!
When you put the new coffin arms on, did you compress the suspension when before tightening the bolts that attach them to the body of the car? I just did this same job on my P-car and the instructions I followed said that was was important as otherwise you run the risk of tearing the bushings. I used factory parts, so maybe that's not needed on the Rennline stuff, but wanted to pass that along to you just in case.
Yup! Good catch. If the arm bolts are torqued at full droop the bushings will be twisted when on the ground and worse on bump.
Yep, this! When you go to full torque, the suspension must be loaded.
Matt, I would rephrase cheapest Porsche, to once cheapest, or money pit Porsche. 😂😂
Yes lol
I’d love quick jacks. I have to make do with axel stands and no garage 😂
Huge help in the garage!
Keep it going!
HANNAH NJMMMMMMMMMM
Dude, you give us amateur wrenches hope! Awesome vid..🎉
Glad you like them!
Nice to see you took my advice on that spray bottle
Whats the name of this red spray bottle, seems link is missing =(
@@kubzero clever bruh. Sick burn. take you another victory lap around your moms basement. Then go touch some grass my dude
Added amzn.to/3DbqszB
Would be great to clean undercarriage with dry ice cleaner. Changing the whole look of it dramatically
Yup agreed
Great video as always!!!! Now about to pull the trigger on the same setup with the Rennline, have a link?
I have them linked, but here's their site: www.rennline.com/porsche/996/suspension/control-arms/
@@matt13ross I was thinking so you could get a commission :)
No commission for me, just great parts! Thank you though!
But after all that you have to set the track in front and back...😉
It will be getting a full alignment.
13:00 how you know at what angle to set your bump steer arms? at what angle did you set it?
I just matched them to the angle of the lower control arms.
You did it right by changing all that and not just putting baller coilovers in.
Time to upgrade the turbos......
Not quite yet
Hey bro did you torque those suspensions parts down preloaded with the weight of the car? Apparently it will prematurely wear those bushing’s
Not yet
@@matt13rossWhen you torque the coffin arm inner bolt at full droop, then put car on the ground, the rubber must twist. Then twist even more on bumps.
That much twisting turns the rubber bushings into an additional torsion spring and might tear bushing.
Measure fender to spindle. Raise car & loosen the bolts. Then when the car is lifted, jack spindle to ride height, torque bolts.
Move to florida I got you. I’m selling a lot of home with attached two cars a detached 30 x 70 for example building with lifts.
Would love it! Where at?
@@matt13ross be 10 min from the beach , 20 min from a international Airport
Hopefully, used new stretch bolts?😅
Nah not needed
Use some gloves you will thank me in 20 years 👍
Great vid cheers 👍👍
And now the h&r sports-stabi-kit?
What's that? Sway bars?
What part of pa are you in?
South central
I hope you're not touching the Steering wheel with those hands of yours😂 It would be a shame to mess up That steering wheel
LETS GO BRANDON
Who needs to go to the gym when you get such a work out under the car?
That’s right!
So about that NB. 👀
NB?
@@matt13ross the merlot Miata in the background.
Oh lol, NOT mine!
@@matt13ross nothing wrong with a Miata, especially in an area like yours adjacent to some mountain roads (I assume, always had fun carving up PA roads in my Miata).
Nothing wrong with a Miata at all, if I had one, it would be LS swapped though lol.
You're not using the QJ properly!! I've commented a few times so you do not get hurt or lose an arm, the safeties should NOT be on the inside! You need to swap those sides they are on so the safeties are on the outside. Why would you think you should reach inside the jacks to disengage the safety?!!
I'll swap them eventually, they've just been on the same side for months. I'm honestly not too worried about it. The chances of them failing immediately when I place mine arm in there is absolutely tiny.
I had similar experience with coolant in my truck in nowhere Kansas - stopped to get gas, smelled coolant, I said to myself, some idiot is losing coolant. Look under my truck and realize I was the idiot :D
Me, I'm the idiot, lol
You can replace the suspension with an active suspension system. build one using jcb cylinders and a few acorn sized oil pumps
Active?
Pleas make a touring one like nick collin
Touring one?
@@matt13rossI think he means convert it to a touring package 🤷♂️🤷♂️
Idk what that is lol
Where is the link to red spray bottle?
I added it amzn.to/3DbqszB
Its TIME to dry ice 😃😃😁
Not time yet lol
Patience, grasshopper.
GOOD'S bin? more like BAD'S bin amiritefolks?
lololol
You ever get that EVAP code figured out? Oh yeah, and the Steelers suck! 😎
Not yet!
used struts are about $200, control arms about $70 each, OEM shocks $400, tie rods $50 each, could pay for new to you OEM tail-lights, but everyone has their own way of doing things... these are just quick ebay prices...
But with 150k miles?
I hate those wheels, this car needs BBS LM's or CH-R'S
Just wait!
gloves
I hate gloves. Especially when people where the for EVERYTHING in the garage (@throtl)
I think we can go a little lower😂❤
Agree
MAYBE!
I vote no.
So, for how long can you keep calling this car a "cheap" Porsche 996 Turbo? 😅
Purchase price was cheap, total cost is the opposite lol
You ruined the factory bump steer with the new shock heights. the corner balance is off. ride height is way off. now the alignment way off. Then you throw away the stock rebuildable control arms....yikes...fast reliable Hwy touring car is no more....
LOL what is this comment??
@@matt13ross Lookup how to Corner Balance a car...
1. I installed a bump steer kit
2. Can't corner balance a car without a weigh system, which I don't have. And it's not a necessity anyways.
3. Alignment is off, obviously getting a pro alignment.
4. Ride height is perfect. for me.
5. I highly doubt anyone would want those old arms.
6. It's not fast, nor has it been reliable.
7. Replacing the suspension doesn't affect it's reliability.
8. Comments are better off sticking to facts, not nonsense.
you really don’t like wearing gloves 🙆🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️
Hate gloves!
@@matt13ross lol 🤦🏾♂️
