- Sadly, at the moment we are unable to travel due to health concerns. While waiting for appropriate treatment we have decided to share some of our earlier trips with those of you who have been kind enough to take an interest in our journeys. We begin with a road trip in the south eastern States of the USA. We very much hope that these prove enjoyable and that we can be offering new destinations soon. For this road trip we land in Miami and then head north. Our first morning is spent in beautiful South Beach Miami, the Art Deco Capital of the World. We have visited many cities where Art Deco architectural styles feature but in our estimation none match the colourful and homogenous district of South Beach. The weather was mostly sunny but with some really exciting dark clouds threatening. The sea has amazing colour and was pretty lively. Along Ocean Drive vintage vehicles lined up on display adding to the colour of the line of pretty villas and apartments overlooking the beach. It was a wonderful first morning of the trip. We then head north eventually stopping for two nights at popular Cocoa Beach to allow us a full day to visit the Kennedy Space Centre a short drive away. That afternoon we cooled off with a walk along the beach towards Port Canaveral where cruise ships were setting out to sea.

This beach and town are delightful! The vintage cars are a real treat for the eyes - so classic and beautiful.
And I can't forget the charming orange lifeguard shelter, it adds a lovely pop of color to the scene.
It was a brilliant place to start our road trip. Art Deco is a favourite architectural style.

Thanks for your kind comment. Just a matter of waiting for the NHS to catch up with demand for me. Currently into month six of waiting. Could do with spending the wait somewhere like South Beach but it would be far too pricey.

South Beach is a beautiful place but there are so many great places in the US that it impossible to see them all. Time is something we are all short of sadly. best wishes from the UK

Impossible not to be a wee bit envious of the residents of Miami, having such a beautiful beach in their backyard! Love the art deco and the retro cars too. Throwback to when architecture wasn't all shiny glass and cars had individual style. Never been to Cocoa Beach, I guess it got its name from the colour of the sand?
It was a really exciting sky and with the sun behind us the ocean looked amazing. It is a great place to enjoy Art Deco but pricey. As for the name it was people from the nearby settlement of Cocao that set up home here. Several ideas as to where that name came from. The one I like is that a woman set up a stall selling hot chocolate to passing sailors on the river. She would shout "Cocao, Cocao" as boats approached.

I have never been to South Beach. It looks amazing.
We had stayed here once before but it is pricey (for us). We stayed our first night near the airport but just had to return to South Beach to wander a while before setting off on our road trip. It is a beautiful place and that beach that morning so dramatic with those dark skies. Beautiful place. Thanks for watching.

Sorry to hear about your current travel restrictions. I hope you get the health treatments needed. This trip was from a bit ago but I'm sure will be a treat to see. Nice beaches and tour of the area. Thank you very much. It is so frustrating to have to wait for treatment. Non emergency wait times have not yet gotten over the effects of Covid disruption. While many things are improving and extra funding is coming through I am not viewed as a priority. Until I am repaired walking is difficult. If our holidays were spent sitting on a beach this would not be a problem. Anyway hope to get going soon. We have about 30 road trips in North America over the years and will post a few glimpses over the coming weeks. It is fun looking back. Best wishes from the UK.

Glad you enjoyed it. We had a great start to the trip. This was a trip in 2017. Sadly at the moment we cannot travel while I (Robert) am awaiting repairs. Frustratingly the NHS has a long waiting list for the operation I need and at the moment it makes it uncomfortable for me to walk. We are putting out this old trip while we wait for maintenance to be done!

We did many road trips in the US over the years and while we cannot travel at the moment thought it might be interesting to share some of those visits. South Beach was a great place to start this 2017 trip.

We have never been to Miami but are planning a trip there for next spring. It is sucha beautiful coastal city. Can't wait to see it in person. Thanks for sharing it with us!
We have chosen to start/finish a few road trips in Miami as the flights from the UK and car rental were more affordable. We really fell for South Beach though with its amazing Art Deco buildings. We also enjoyed Vizcaya, a wonderful garden and mansion some way south of Downtown Miami. Really though the best things for us was the drive to Key West and also visiting the everglades. Hope you enjoy next Spring.

But I have never been to Miami... we arent much of city people lol. Looks like you stayed along the east coast this trip, but have you ever been on the west coast? That is where we live. Our beaches are some of the best in the world :) Love seeing the cruise ships leaving!! Cant wait to see where else yall went!!

As this trip progresses you will see that we made our way west eventually to New Orleans and northern Louisiana before journeying back to Miami with stops in Fort Walton, Cedar Quay and St Petersburg. We have stayed on the West coast a few times. Three times in Bradenton and once in Venice. We love watching the sunsets from your beautiful white sand beaches as well as attractions like the Ringling Museum. Myakka State Park, Venice Botanical Garden and so much more.
I love Miami, such a great city. Enjoyed seeing the beautiful beaches again through your video. Cool cars too!

That is so kind of you to say so. Hope to be up and running again soon but having to wait for a date for an operation. Until then walking is a difficulty. Most of our trips revolve around walks so at the moment am going slowly mad with frustration. Glad you enjoyed seeing part of thisearlier trip.

Not really into it myself despite my Dads best efforts years ago. Those old motors were so well cared for and really looked at home in front of those wonderful Art Deco buildings. Health always comes first! Take good care of yourself. Been to South Beach a couple of times...once for an overnight before a cruise, and the other for three days after a cruise. Relaxing just to take the time to walk the beach before heading home to a frozen over Nova Scotia! lol
Thanks. Hopefully I will not have to wait much longer before we can get going again. It is though an opportunity to share some of the things we had been doing before RUclips. We stayed overnight on South Beach once but on this occasion we decided it was less expensive to stay near the airport on arrival and get an early night before an early start the following morning. It is a pretty long flight from the UK. Never tried cruising yet. We have always enjoyed route planning too much ourselves and now we are older are only too well aware of the danger of overindulgence on cruises. Its hardenough to keep the weight down as it is. .

Very nice to see that you are traveling in Florida, where I live👍 I haven't been to Miami Beach in awhile but it is fun to check it out for a little bit! I like the art-deco buildings and the old cars that you saw🙂 It is nice that you went North to where there are less people in certain areas too!! Have fun!!
Sadly we are not able to travel at the moment but while we wait for a necessary procedure (repairs to an aging body) we are looking back at a couple of road trips enjoyed prior to joining RUclips. We have wandered in Florida a few times. This was 2017. Thanks for taking a look.

The shutdown was not as bad for us as we are close to woodlands and we could get out for walks. At the moment I am not able to walk very far at all. So frustrating as we have always been on the go. Thanks Anna. Not exactly sick but waiting for an op with a long wait list. In the meantime mobility is affected and it is difficult to walk. These things sadly come with age. We hope to makeup for the interruption to our wanderings as soon as the necessary repairs are done. Thanks for watching the start of this trip. Thanks Dave, It is hard not being able to go on our adventures, travelling has always been a major enjoyment in our lives, it’s worse than being in lockdown, but fingers crossed it’s only temporary, and
fortunately I’ve got an extensive backlog of holidays to revisit, which haven’t as yet been shared online.
South Beach was a delight to visit at the start of our holiday, with such beautiful weather. It seemed almost too perfect, such a contrast to being in the UK.
Hope you and Sue are doing ok, I’m enjoying your latest travels in Scotland, which is such a special place to me,

I think this beach is a paradise for jewelry hunters with metal detectors, have you ever tried it?
I have not tried metal detecting but when I was a kid I used to comb the very busy beach near where I lived at the end of the day. Always plenty of coins dropped in the sand by careless folk. For a kid this was profitable fun. A metal detector would have speeded things up no end.
