Not sure why, but this vase appeals to me more than most vases I've seen made. Maybe because it was from what could simply be a log from the firewood pile.
Beautiful craftsmanship, a high bar indeed. The fact that you call the remaining bark a natural edge as apposed to a live edge tells me everything I need to know about your attention to detail. Love your work
Hi Lewis, That is amazing. I don't do hollowing but really should as I have a hollowing rig for my lathe. I love watching you turn, your tool control is amazing. Take care Lewis, Cheers, Huw
I always enjoy your work and your craftsmanship. I haven't been able to find any of your work recently. Are you still making videos? Thanks. Mark Walsh, PEI
I really love the fine lines of the walls on that vase. It’s a true testament to your craftsmanship. I really like your channel and your narrative as you work your projects. Keep up the good work.
Very nice!! I have not turned apple wood yet, haven’t had the opportunity to scarf some up. It is a lovely wood and your turning allowed it to show. Love the bead at the bottom. Thanks for posting.
@@TheKlondikeCraftsman have you thought of making humming bird houses?? saw some on pinterest that were turned/ made from scrap pieces about 5 inches tall.... really cute... i'm sure you could make them too
Really nice design. That shape combined with the bark edge make it look like a flower in its own right! Nice precision work getting that wall thickness. Cheer, Rick
Beautiful job, as always Lewis. Love watching you turn, the shape is good, the commentary is always very good & instructive. Thanks for sharing, Don from South Aust.
320th like. I thoroughly enjoy watching you work and thank you for sharing. I still haven’t made a whistle, though ☹️. Oh, and the vase turned out nice too 🌞
Living on the edge parting that off that close to the chuck, yikes! But, a deft hand made it all fine. Beautiful little piece there ... Enjoy watching your techniques and discussion throughout. I'm a bit surprised you don't have more subscribers/views; that's perplexing to me. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks so much! Subscriber count is a funny thing, you never know how it will go. I am content with the size and growth of the channel though. I appreciate you watching!
Enjoyed watching this one!! Lewis.. Still waiting to get me some Apple. However a house is coming down up the street with Fig trees in the yard!! Any thoughts or experience with Fig trees. Cheers Tim.
When I watched you rough shape it, it looked like there might be a couple of dings in your tool rest. Probably time to do some maintenance on it. Nice job overall.
How do your projects, made out of a full branch like that, not crack as they dry? Even being super old and dried out it seems they would crack later after being turned. Seems like water would always be trapped in there. Unless they are kiln dried.
Looks amazing. 4-5 coats of finish, wow, do you need to slightly buff between those coats and how long does it normally take to sufficiently dry between coats?
Pretty little vase, glad you add a foot to your vases, keeps them from appearing to float.
Thanks Kathryn! I like feet on them, very controversial stance haha. Thanks for watching!
@@TheKlondikeCraftsman I used to do alot of pottery so I like feet on most things! Foot fetish I guess! LOL
Simple…precise…beautiful. Great job.
I appreciate it Martin, thanks

Pretty little vase. Excellent work Lewis.
Thank you Doug, I appreciate it!
Lewis smashing job mate the wood grain is lovely and to take it down to 3/4 mm is pushing my expertise lol well done
Thank you Alan, apple is nice for thin walled turning. I appreciate you watching
Yes sir very beautiful ✌️

Very nice piece.
Thank you Ronnie!
The vase is absolutely beautiful. Apple has such beautiful grain.
Thank you James, apple is excellent wood, other than the cracking! Thanks for watching!
Very pretty Lewis. The rim is so delicate it is beautiful. Apple wood is some very nice wood. The grain patterns are awesome.
Thank you Jane, I like apple!
Hello what an awesome vase I love the finish it really shows the grain and colour of the wood well done
Thank you Amanda, I really appreciate it!
Very nice. I have a friend who grows some beautiful flower gardens. I'm thinking Christmas gift!
Thanks Jim, you will want to waterproof it if there will be real flowers in it. Thank you for watching!
Not sure why, but this vase appeals to me more than most vases I've seen made. Maybe because it was from what could simply be a log from the firewood pile.
That is exactly what it was going to be, firewood. No stick of firewood safe around here no matter who’s yard it it in! Thanks for watching!

every time you did that lightest touch, i forgot to breath. such a precise work!
Thank you Irene! I appreciate you watching!
Excellent! No such thing as scrap wood in my eyes mate
Very little I agree! Just have to be careful who’s firewood pile you are into! Thanks for watching buddy!
Hi Lewis, That is amazing. I don't do hollowing but really should as I have a hollowing rig for my lathe.

Thanks Huw, I like vases and hollow forms. I appreciate you watching.
I always enjoy your work and your craftsmanship. I haven't been able to find any of your work recently. Are you still making videos? Thanks. Mark Walsh, PEI
Hi Mark! I have not been in the shop much as I am working all my free time at my sons house. That is nearly done though so keep an eye open!
I really love the fine lines of the walls on that vase. It’s a true testament to your craftsmanship. I really like your channel and your narrative as you work your projects. Keep up the good work.

Thank you. apple is fantastic to turn but it cracks very easily, I cut 6” off each end of this to get clear of the cracks.
beautiful!!!!
Thank you Ruthe

Very nice piece of apple, great tool control as always. Stay well and cheers from MT.
Thank you, it was odd wood for apple but it worked out ok!
Beautiful!!

Thank you Ray! Get after that whistle, they are great fun to make! Thanks for watching and the like!
very nice! apple is one of my favorite woods.
Thank you Niles. I like apple a lot. This piece was very different for some reason.

Thanks so much PJ
Beautiful vase, Lewis. Really appreciate watching the tool control, again and feel like you did a great job on the form and choice of finish.
Thank you Jay, I appreciate it buddy!

Still waiting to get me some Apple.

Thank you Tim! I have never turned Fig but I recommend sealing it up quickly as fruit wood cracks very quickly! Thank you for watching!
So what is a vase like that worth?. Great work. Thanks for sharing 👍🏻
That size would be in the $75 range here. Thanks for watching!
Great job! Haven't got the nerve yet to try something that thin with that much height.
Wes @ Piedra Designs
It isn’t hard Wes, just use sound wood and keep yourself clear just in case. Thank you for watching!
When I watched you rough shape it, it looked like there might be a couple of dings in your tool rest. Probably time to do some maintenance on it. Nice job overall.
It does need to be touched up Timothy yes. Thanks for watching!
How do your projects, made out of a full branch like that, not crack as they dry?
Even being super old and dried out it seems they would crack later after being turned.
Seems like water would always be trapped in there. Unless they are kiln dried.
Hey Max, in this case it was turned very thin which usually will not crack. Thanks for watching!
Nice work ! Beautiful wood and shape !
Does the Danish oil really make the vase waterproof ?
Thanks Thomas! The danish oil does not weatherproof. This is just ornamental. Thanks for watching
Looks amazing. 4-5 coats of finish, wow, do you need to slightly buff between those coats and how long does it normally take to sufficiently dry between coats?
Thanks! This piece is thin so it looks like 2-3 coats will do. I buff after the last coat and it cures in a few days. Thanks for watching!
Thank you! It's a pretty rim on a lovely vase, just begging to be touched! Technology hasn't quite got there yet (Sigh!).
Thank you Stephanie! Some pieces do seem to provoke handling! I appreciate you watching!
