I think ive watched this twice now. It is a beautiful piece. Must say I have missed your content. Especially your smalll fun projects that are helping me get back to turning after many many years. Hope all is well and looking forward to your more regular return.🤞
That's very nice. I'm in process on a Urn for a good friend down the street. Base and bottom four seg's Walnut and then blending in Oak starting with 1/8" band between Walnut and then growing in size 1/4", 1/2" until the top of the Urn is solid Oak. The idea is all symbolism from dark Walnut to the light Oak as it raises up the Urn, sole going to heaven.
It’s beautiful and the shine is outstanding. I don’t understand anyone who would give a thumbs down or leave a negative comment. What they should do is press the thumbs down button….twice. It’s nice to see you again. Keep up the good work 🌞
Very nice work. A trick that I saw on YT from the @ThePapa1947 when gluing the segments and rings is to let the glue dry a bit and get tacky before you press the pieces together as that prevents all the pieces from sliding around so much and makes the gluing process so much easier.
Thanks for watching! Would need to experiment with the tacky idea, that could go badly if you wait to long. Would certainly take practice to know when is optimal.
Beautiful piece Lewis. The shapes you turn are always very pleasing to the eye and flow so well. Kudos on being able to keep the padauk from staining the maple. Excellent solution for the lid attachment; it makes sense to glue the lid to the urn. Have seen others use PVC threaded pipe for the attachment; really like your solution better. Glad to see a new video and that you will be making more in the future. I don't know if you follow him or not, but Gary Ascher whose handle is ThePapa1947 does some very interesting work with segments. If you haven't seen him, he's definitely worth a look and follow. Some of his videos show how he resolves the problem of the layers slipping during glue-up
You were missed and glad to know you were busy with work. The urn is a great piece of work and art. Please do not stay away so long again. I learned a lot from your work and now I continue to learn.
That's lovely,Lewis. We all get busy. I have not been in my shop for months. Too stinking hot here in GA. Was curious about how the old house was coming you were working on. I watch the old content just to see what I may have missed. Have a great week!
Thank you Jane! Yes the old house is 99% done and the kids have moved in. Still very busy with work and business. I appreciate you watching the new and the old!
Welcome back! Nice work. I do almost all segmented turning and have found that if I place a few grains of salt or silica sand between the rings it will stop a lot of movement.
@@TheKlondikeCraftsman I know exactly how it is! I've been on a 6 month stretch of 6/dys a week... It's incredibly difficult to continue to make content. For me anyway. I'm still at the lathe. But just no time to edit. My channel doesn't even compare to yours. That being said. For me, there are very few creators that I look forward to watching content from. You are one of them! So glad to have you back sir. Been missing the KC woodturning magic. What a beautiful segmented piece! Well done you. All the best to you and your family.
Great piece! The contrast on the woods is beautiful. I am sure whoever receives this will appreciate the work for their loved one. Good to see you back in the shop. Thanks for sharing!

That is simply beautiful. I really like the one line of maple. Wasn’t sure at first but the more I watch this the more I like it. What is the height and width of the urn?
Lewis. Where are you these days? I haven't seen any new videos lately and I wonder if you have produced any or I have missed them. I know you are very busy, which is good. All the best and maybe in 2025 I may be able to bring some coffee to your shop. Mark, PEI.
Lewis nice to see you back at the lathe mate, That padauk looks really dusty stuff and is there a chance that it wood stain the lighter woods ??. That piece turned out smashing well done.
Thank you Alan! Yes it can stain the other wood. I wiped it down several times and then hand sanded the surface of the maple only to keep it white. Thank you for watching!
