  • How I cut the top of fence posts to protect against water ingress. This is the pyramid cut that is performed using the Makita 305mm Compound Mitre saw LS1219L. I usually use this method for gate posts as it is practical and pleasing to the eye.
The reason we cut angles on the top of the fence post is so that water does not get a chance to sit on top of the post. The angles on the post will encourage the water to run off of the post, which will help avoid the top of the posts rotting.

The line you mark to cut is this at 10” doesn’t look that long when you cut it?

i've got long lengths of garden posts and need to do 8 cuts to make 8 posts, would that saw your using be ok to cut through the thickness? i could probably just cut by hand saw lol but that eletric saw would give a cleaner and easier cut i think, i need to get one of those eletric saws.

@@Bacrenfencing hey thanks for that 👍 i noticed that one is expensive, but it's worth it for your situation as a business and you know it will last for many jobs but like for me where it's just one time sort of thing could i get away with a cheaper model and that it would still do the job? thanks.

The part that makes it "waterpoof" is the paint...

No, it's the angle on the posts that ensures water cannot settle on top of the post and cause rot. The paint merely helps protect the wood.
