My nails curve, too. When they have been in warm water, they straighten out then curve again as they dry. I have very high arches as well. Keeping them slightly shorter does help with the obvious curves but I want them longer.
What kind of person leaves ugly comments to such a beautiful strong woman aka THE QUEEN OF WATER MARBLING?? Nasty HATERS with NO lives! You don't like what you see, fine, but quietly leave! She put herself in a vulnerable situation here by showing the world her natural BEAUTIFUL nails and that makes her WAY bigger person than y'all ugly commenters LOL. WE ALL HAVE 'FLAWS'! WE ARE ALL BEAUTIFUL WITH THEM! :) :) :)
Some of my nails used to curl unevenly like your index nail. Then I discovered that if I filed the unruly ones a little more narrowly as they grow out, they all curve perfectly with the natural bend of the nail bed. In other words, my nails were simply too wide to curve the way I wanted. This has made all the difference with my nails! Also keeping several layers of polish on them both strengthens them and provides reinforcement for the desired shape. However, your nails are so nice, you hardly need any advice on their maintenance and care.
My index fingers curve the most too. From a theory of mind, I think uneven filing is the cause of the corners curving. And if they curve at the sides, it means that your nail beds are narrow and the white tip part of the nail gets spread out / widens as it grows. Once it leaves your nail bed, it gets dry and curves. This can be prevented by filing the side of your nails. At least that's what works for me lol.
Katrina Simon I definitely agree with this. I've noticed that when I file the sides of my nails, the curve is much ness noticable. The only thing is that my nails don't feel as strong- not like it makes them super weak but just not as strong.
One of my index fingers does this. With my job, my pointer fingers need filling down or I will break them first. Getting time to trim them all shorter. That's sad for me. I have just figured out how to get them to grow. But that darn curve sure us annoying. I was thinking maybe I injured that finger one too many times.
I have this issue with my index and middle finger on both hands. They do this sort of slanted curve. I use to think it was due to me wearing acrylics for such a long time until I stopped and that I had damaged something but I've noticed my mom has the exact same issue and she's never worn fake nails in her life. Our diets are completely different as well so we now assume it's just genetic.
Mine does this as well, at the moment filing and reshaping as they grow kinda helped but didn't 100% resolve it. right now i cut them short, do my cuticles regularly, reshaping to round and using jojoba oil couple of times a day. I will let know how it goes as they grow update 2 months later: currently long nails, I also used gel polish and that actually made it a bit more c curve shaped instead of one side of growing completely other way like in the video. The side is still twisting a bit but luckily it's not that obvious as long as I keep filing. I still use jojoba, reshaping them and yeah, it's looking good lol. update 5 months: last week my nails got c curved a bit too much, buffed them yesterday and it's not that bad anymore. Still using jojoba and all the stuff.
@@melodiechartier5173 i'll take c curve anytime over that weird twist haha, especially that i also draw on my nails and on some angles, especially on the side, it shows the entirety of the under nail instead of the actual nail. although now the c curve is not so bad anymore now that i buff it.
I love the way you explain and then follow up with showing us. I have nails that tend to curve inward and they were always a problem when I was younger, but they seem to have gotten less curvier with maintenance. I love your channel's name, because my nails are one of my "simple little pleasures" too.
Nails can curve because they are dry, maybe it would help a little if you use the cuticle oil under your nails and try to keep that are moisturised too? Just a suggestion. And I think I would file the shape of your nails a little at the side walls so that they are as narrow at the free edge as they are at the base. I mean the sides would be parallel lines. Hope you know what I mean :)
@gmommaGodfrey1 you are absolutely correct! Iron deficiency can cause your nails to bend. I started taking liquid zinc along with divine it on tea and my nails are nice and thick with no bend. During weekly maintenance I use liquid zinc on my nails in addition
I think the nail curls because your first two fingers are used a lot when picking up things and doing regular everyday things. Like picking up a blanket from the couch or switching out laundry. You may not use your nail but you are turning your hand to the side to pick things up and over time it pushes your nails. I don't know if I explained that right or well enough but that's what I think
I'm used to keeping my nails long.. I think you need to file the side edges of the tip of your nail that curves... Those tips look more wide, almost like duck nails in comparison to the rest. I think that's why that corner curves down so much. I don't mean duck nails as an insult for any troll looking to start internet fights.
not to argue with a professional, but I haven't had any trouble with it. and buffing enough to take off all of the stain would leave my nails extremely thin, there are much less damaging ways to deal with staining for those who are bothered by it but since I always wear polish it's not something I particularly care about =)
Water weakens nails. No wonder you always have to do repairs. This may even contribute to curling. My nails use to curl in from the sides and the c-curve become more narrow as they grew. Not soaking my nails in water, applying polish under my nail, and adding oil to my nails daily help minimize this curling allowing me to grow even longer nails. I also don't have yellow nails and I don't use whitening agents as this can be extremely harsh on nails.
I don't consider anything I said rude - I just pointed out that you told me basically the same thing I said in the video, that if your nails are weak you shouldn't go back & forth. people are going to say rude things regardless - I'm going to continue to show how I do my own nails, and give people other options that they may want to try on their own nails. There's no foolproof best way because everyone's nails are different & needs to learn what works for them
Love your nails. When my nails are short I add a layer of gel or acrylic, it helps to strengthen mine. It also help as they grow to keep adding gel/acrylic and then I don't get the curving :)
Are you using room temperature filtered water? Also keep in mind that not all polish works - the brand doesn't really matter but every color is different in the water & it just takes a lot of trial & error to find the ones that work well. You want one with good pigmentation, maybe a little on the thick side but thin enough to drip & above all slow-drying =)
I have the exact same curve on my index finger when the free nail edge becomes about 2 mm long. It is that curvy that the one side even separates from the gel I wear and curves. I then trim them down and keep them shorter than the curving is cause I can't stand this. By the way, first time I saw your face on a video, you look really cute :D
I have so much trouble shaping my nails when they get to a certain length because they almost get almond shaped because they start to curl inwards towards each other at the tips and I prefer them square! Of course when I shower or have my hands in water they flatten out nicely! Anyone else but me have this problem? Also how do you patch your broken nails? I've tried certain ways but was curious because yours seem to work!
LuvMyDogs I think how much your nails curve depends on the shape of your nail bed, although I have noticed when I have gel or patches on they're less curved - I use gel & silk wraps for my patches, I have several videos in my tips & tricks playlist on how I do it
Nails curl when they are very dry, just like an autumn leaf--when it dies and falls off the tree, it starts to curl up and break. Your nails do just this when they are dry. When you get out of her shower, your nails have soaked up three times their weight in water. The curl flattens out, but your nails are very soft and prone to breaking or tearing. To combat the curling without risking a nail break, use a high-quality jojoba nail and cuticle oil at least two or three times a day. The reason to use jojoba oil is because it is molecularly smaller bough to penetrate and be absorbed by your nail plate. I use Bliss Kiss Simple Pure Nail Oil, purchased from nailcarehq.com. That website has many articles about nail care and more information about Simple Pure Nail Oil, as well as other nail care products you can purchase. I love the nail oil! It works so well and my nails have never been longer and my cuticles are so soft! Hope this helped!
Good morning.... you should never file your nails straight across that damages the tips.. you should always file corner to center until you get the desired shape..
I don't use any hardeners. I keep my nails moisturized, lots of lotion & cuticle oil & I also take a biotin supplement - check out my Nail Maintenance vid in the Tips & Trick playlist for my full routine. I do occasionally get a tear or break but you can check out my tutorials on silk wrap patching for how I save those nails =) I do "Naked Nails" posts on my blog periodically where I talk more about the specific products I'm currently using.
I have issues with curving too. A friend said to soak my nails, then sandwich the problem ones with appropriate size nail tips/press on nails. Clamp small metal clips (for reports or organizing papers) over the tip of your finger holding everything in place. Then and allow to dry completely. So far reshaping when wet has helped a lot.Anyway, love the vids.
Just thought I'd share this to anyone having nail problems, such as the one documented here or any others there is a guy called Doug Schoon, he's a scientist who has come over to the nail side!! He is a genius, you can get him on fb, and he will answer any questions (nail related) that U may have..btw love all ur vids, would kill for ur polish collect 😀😘
I read comments before watching. They dont look bad. Not my taste because I have bad nails but you rock what u want. I gave up trying to please others yrs ago. I watched to learn how to get a nail curve. Keep posting. Awesome that you are on youtube. Forget negative comments.
When your nails are that long you shouldn't use a nail cutter because the pressure it applies as your pressing it down can cause the nail to fracture. It's better to file them down with the glass file and then cut them. Just a little advice :)
+tubeofyou I don't think an electric file or a nail bit is good to file your NATURAL nails. I feel like its too rough and its better to just file down acrylics
You're supposed to file in one direction because the fibers that make up nails grow in a criss-cross weave pattern. Filing back and forth causes these fibers to fray (in much the same way the cut edge of fabric looks), leaving your nails more susceptible to cracking, chipping, etc.
yes - my patches will normally hold through several manicures, even using remover that has acetone. if you use 100% acetone it can damage the patch a little bit - if you want to be very careful you can use non-acetone remover =)
yes, I understand what you mean - but even with that, some colors will still stain =) my normal base is nail life gripper or occasionally their ridge filler
You should never try to "bleach" your nails. Toothpaste is too hard on your nails and even products made to whiten nails causes your nails to become brittle. Yellow nails are just a part of painting your nails, there's really nothing you can do except paint them to cover them up or just let the stain grow out.
nails are not more brittle when they're wet - they get softer =) then they are easier to cut, although since they can bend more they're also more delicate in some ways
I use the california mango brand although you can even just use olive oil - think of it like conditioner is for your hair, it helps keep them soft, keep from cracking, keeps them moisturized & healthy =)
Ur hands remind me of my grandma hands. She had such beautiful long nails. She passed away over 5 years ago and ur nails just remind me of hers. So beautiful!
I don't think the shape has anything to do with how they grow =) although some people will say that squared nails are more likely to chip at the corners
I get the same thing with my nails, only not the index finger nails like you do but my middle finger. My theory is, is that when you have your hands in a relaxed position (when you sleep for instance) the nail that is affected is resting against the pad of the thumb (close your hand into a slight fist, you'll see how perfectly it fits.) The warmth of your hand will set the nail into the curve as nails are made of nearly the same stuff as your hair. So using heat will also uncurl it (temporarily)
Hi! I just want to say ignore all the haters out there! If they didn't like the video why did they sit and watch it?! Also, thx for the info. on the biotin. I started taking it 8 months ago and it really helped me grow my nails long and less prone to breaks.
Hello my natural nails grow long. My right middle nail curves. I really don’t care. Lol like you said nails do what they want. Eyebrows is the same. However the China ladies always have a problem with my mail curve and want me to cut them. No I don’t cut my nails. I keep them a nice length nothing exaggerated. I get two coats of gel that’s it.
Hi there, I also have gorgeous strong long natural nails, but yes my ring and index finger nails specially on my left hand is more noticeable their curl in wards, I thought I was the only one with this prob. Thanks a lot for this informative video, stay blessed and all the best.
I am so glad you discussed the curling of your nail. I haven't watch a video in awhile. The last one I watched I looked and noticed the curling and thought, " Did her nail break and she put on an acrylic one" lol. It looked so much different than the others. Great video.
My mom has figured out a technique to use while using gel on her flat nails. She takes clear fishing line and carefully ties it around the hanging nail so it goes into a curve, and then applies the gel right over the fishing line. Afterwards she clips the extra line off and then her nails are all perfectly curved. Her nails are also less flat now, naturally
Patching is applying silk patches, you do it if your nail rips to stop the nail from catching on anything until the nail is long enough to clip or file. Colette does have a tuturial on how to apply silk patches, :D
if you don't do anything, they will eventually grow out, or there are many home remedies or products you can buy - just google nail whitening & I'm sure lots will show up =)
My thumbs, index and middle finger nails grow like this... I read it means iron deficiency. Is your index finger nail still growing like this, if not how did you remedy this?
is it a nail hardener? sometimes if nails are too hard they get brittle & break easier. I keep mine moisturized, lots of lotion & cuticle oil & I take a biotin supplement - check out my Nail Maintenance vid in the Tips & Trick playlist for my full routine. I do occasionally get a tear or break but you can check out my tutorials on silk wrap patching for how I save those nails =) I do "Naked Nails" posts on my blog periodically where I talk more about the specific products I'm currently using.
I have had a couple of clients with the bends or curves in their nails like what you have shown here and that is usually due to stress on the nail bed as it is growing out. Your index finger is the most used so it will be the one with the most issues. One thing that I have done, that works is; clip the nail all the way down, put on a tip with acrylic or gel to let it grow back out. This will allow the nail to have a splint as it straightens back out. Again, just a helpful idea.
I am pleased to know that staining is not bad for your nails. my mum used to day it was because I painted over my cuticles. I got rid of mine by buffing but that can cause the nails to be too thin so will now just leave them alone as they are weak enough already.. Thank you for this vid very informative. :0)
I've pretty much maintained them long since I started blogging. Well I am loving your videos. I do however have a question, I basically had to cut off my nails. =( They always seem to tear at the sides and well I want to start growing them again what do you suggest I use to help with the strengthening of my nails? Thanks for your time and keep the videos coming I will be watching...
How do you keep the index fingers from chipping. I recently grew out my nails pretty far for my normal length and my only problem is the index fingers are just too weak. Help. I do u a strengthener so idk
Happy birthday love! For some reason it won't let me see your newest "birthday haul" video so I wanted to wish you a happy birthday and many man more! Have a blessed day!
My nail beds curve like the start of a cork screw so my nails curve in the same way. I can't let my left pinky get long because I have to keep it filed on the outer side and it gets sharp. My ring fingernails are the only normal nails I have all the rest curve in some weird way !
pretty much any kind of lotion, I stock up whatever is on clearance. My cuticle oil I usually use mange magic but just about anything will do even olive oil =)
it does - but I don't write with my left hand =) my middle nails used to curve a lot too & they seem to have grown out of it so maybe one day my index nails will behave
I can't believe how many people make ignorant comments without watching. Anyway - I love your videos. Your nails short is about how long mine are at their long stage. I often go bare. I don't even wear a clear coat on mine. This is when I notice the curves more. If I start polishing them at a shorter length the curve isn't as noticeable when they are longer.
So my nails grow a bit weird. My nails are pretty long. But when i turn them to the side they always look crooked. Not the nail bed is crooked but the sides
I am a licensed cosmetologist and just some info. on nails they grow evenly unlike the hair grows differently due to hair pattern growth and how you sleep. The nail bed and the side walls of the nail beds are different and the cuticles around the nails are different that is why the nails grow wider than others and the curves to them. To prevent staining from nail polish use a base coat when using nail polish. To patch up broken nails use nail glue and used fabric softeners.
I have a possible theory about your curving nail.~ eg: When nails are strong they follow the shape of the nail bed which is usually arched and curved. When they are weak they grow straight and splayed. I can control the shape of my 'thin' nails by; when too straight and soft I apply hardener and when too hard I apply more conditioner. Maybe your pointer is thin (weaker) on one edge only, and if you were to apply hardner just to that edge you may be able to adjust that curve by trial and error.
It can also be used as a cheap inexpensive way of a fiber glass to help strengthen the free edge of the nails. Also just another tip on natural nails it is best to use fine coursed emery boards or nail files and when filing the nail it is best to use left to center and right to center and a 45 degree angle in the center. I hope that helps but I love your FAQ's and your videos. Keep up the great work!!!! You do give me some inspiration.
Ive been watching your videos all night and was so excited when I saw the one on nail curling..Bummer you dont know what causes it either. Mine curl as soon as they leave the tip of my finger. Always figured it was because they were so thin but yours are thick and healthy and you seem to be plagued with it too. If you ever find a reason for this I would be eternally grateful. Oh PS.. of all the nail toots out there I like yours best. :)
If u r looking for a way to get your nail tips to look more white, I recommend finding a cleaning powder called borax....take a little bit of it mix it with some warm water to make a paste and scrub ur nails with a brush in it...top and underneath...my mom uses this for whenever she's digging in her garden or gets her hands dirty...I have used it after I've accidently gotten food coloring on my nails n it has removed the stain after a couple of washes....good luck!!
I've never really had a problem with the corners breaking off - it may be due to them being brittle so you could try to moisturize more with like lotion & cuticle oil =)
My nails curve, too. When they have been in warm water, they straighten out then curve again as they dry. I have very high arches as well. Keeping them slightly shorter does help with the obvious curves but I want them longer.

Helen Butler 😁😁😁😁😁
Are you a blissette?
I read comments before watching. They dont look bad. Not my taste because I have bad nails but you rock what u want. I gave up trying to please others yrs ago. I watched to learn how to get a nail curve. Keep posting. Awesome that you are on youtube. Forget negative comments.
I keep some nail glue in my purse, that usually will hold it until I can get home & put an actual patch on it
She's very chill, I like it. It's better than people who talk a million miles a minute and spaz out the entire time.
When your nails are that long you shouldn't use a nail cutter because the pressure it applies as your pressing it down can cause the nail to fracture. It's better to file them down with the glass file and then cut them. Just a little advice :)
when they're that long I'd rather use a dremel or electric nail file just to speed up the process tbh
+tubeofyou I don't think an electric file or a nail bit is good to file your NATURAL nails. I feel like its too rough and its better to just file down acrylics
do you mean the section where the staining is growing out? it's just a bit less noticable at the end I think because I did cuticle oil =)
You're supposed to file in one direction
THANK YOU!!
with a crystal/glass file you are suppose to be able file more than one way. i could be wrong its just what i had heard
My nails curve there because I sleep with my hands in a fist. My mom had this same issue.. I don't hold them like that on purpose but it happens!
Mary Kale saaame
yes, I understand what you mean - but even with that, some colors will still stain =) my normal base is nail life gripper or occasionally their ridge filler
Hi,my name is Dorine. I found out use toothpaste. I try it an it work. my nails came out white.
+Dale Louque yellow nails are fine as they are
You should never try to "bleach" your nails.
:( ugh hate it.. my index and middle finger curve too like that..
Same. My mother's do as well.
I use the california mango brand although you can even just use olive oil - think of it like conditioner is for your hair, it helps keep them soft, keep from cracking, keeps them moisturized & healthy =)
العراقيه مرت من هنا 😘😘
Ur hands remind me of my grandma hands. She had such beautiful long nails. She passed away over 5 years ago and ur nails just remind me of hers. So beautiful!

I don't think the shape has anything to do with how they grow =) although some people will say that squared nails are more likely to chip at the corners
what she wanted to tell I can't understand she just cutted and filed her nails that's it
there are many products you can buy or home remedies - I personally don't bother with either since I always have polish on
Never file back and forth.
NOOOO
sorry but that's a myth
I get the same thing with my nails, only not the index finger nails like you do but my middle finger. My theory is, is that when you have your hands in a relaxed position (when you sleep for instance) the nail that is affected is resting against the pad of the thumb (close your hand into a slight fist, you'll see how perfectly it fits.) The warmth of your hand will set the nail into the curve as nails are made of nearly the same stuff as your hair. So using heat will also uncurl it (temporarily)
you take too long to get to the point
It's her video...just saying
Hi! I just want to say ignore all the haters out there! If they didn't like the video why did they sit and watch it?! Also, thx for the info. on the biotin. I started taking it 8 months ago and it really helped me grow my nails long and less prone to breaks.
Oh the index fingers r disgusting sorry
Hello my natural nails grow long. My right middle nail curves. I really don’t care. Lol like you said nails do what they want. Eyebrows is the same. However the China ladies always have a problem with my mail curve and want me to cut them. No I don’t cut my nails. I keep them a nice length nothing exaggerated.
I get two coats of gel that’s it.
They probably want them to look like acrylics, natural nails are going to have some personality!
@@MSLP Exactly. They want more money that’s all.
Talking too much. Bored after a few seconds of listening. I would have cut them down to were they're split.
no, not if they're soft enough to flex a little - it helps keep them from splitting like happened with some of mine on the first clip =)
Colette does have a tuturial on how to apply silk patches,
:D
if you don't do anything, they will eventually grow out, or there are many home remedies or products you can buy - just google nail whitening & I'm sure lots will show up =)
My thumbs, index and middle finger nails grow like this... I read it means iron deficiency. Is your index finger nail still growing like this, if not how did you remedy this?
it does still grow with a bit of a curve, but I don't wear my nails as long anymore so it's not as noticeable usually
is it a nail hardener? sometimes if nails are too hard they get brittle & break easier.
yes, but I don't usually bother - even though it doesn't take long it's still basically a waste of time for me =)
I've pretty much maintained them long since I started blogging.
This makes sense now why my nails fan out, thank you for this video
I've never been a nail biter but MsReallyboredperson's tips sound like good ones
it can work on both - if your nails are weak you may want to file in one direction as I mention rather than back & forth to reduce the strain =)
I have tried glue before without much luck - but thankfully after this chop it's grown out pretty straight ... at least for the moment =)
not soaking, but I have used peroxide yes =)
My nail beds curve like the start of a cork screw so my nails curve in the same way. I can't let my left pinky get long because I have to keep it filed on the outer side and it gets sharp. My ring fingernails are the only normal nails I have all the rest curve in some weird way !
pretty much any kind of lotion, I stock up whatever is on clearance. My cuticle oil I usually use mange magic but just about anything will do even olive oil =)
it does - but I don't write with my left hand =) my middle nails used to curve a lot too & they seem to have grown out of it so maybe one day my index nails will behave
yes - it's part of the tips & tricks playlist
I can't believe how many people make ignorant comments without watching. Anyway - I love your videos. Your nails short is about how long mine are at their long stage. I often go bare. I don't even wear a clear coat on mine. This is when I notice the curves more. If I start polishing them at a shorter length the curve isn't as noticeable when they are longer.
a base coat can help, but some colors will stain even with a base.
So my nails grow a bit weird. My nails are pretty long. But when i turn them to the side they always look crooked. Not the nail bed is crooked but the sides
for most people, nails seem to grow about 1mm/week =)
So, what supplements do you take to get your nails to grow so nicely and strong?
the only supplement that I take is biotin
I've never really had a problem with the corners breaking off - it may be due to them being brittle so you could try to moisturize more with like lotion & cuticle oil =)
not really - while some lighter colors can stain, it doesn't have anything to do with how long you have it on
yes, I always use a base coat - it helps, but some colors are just worse than others =)
I've never head anyone report hair loss from it, if anything some people say it makes your hair grow more =)
how do you figure?
