The original Sonic the Hedgehog was the only Sonic game I played for the longest time. As a 5 year old kid, I would play the mobile version from Christian Whitehead. I thought the game was decent, but that’s about it. Just a fun little game to play for awhile. And it wasn’t until 9 years later when I played Sonic 2 when the Switch Online + Expansion Pack released, and that’s when I was like dang, this is a good game. Then summer of 2022 hit, and that’s when I really started becoming a Sonic fan. Got Sonic Mania in June, and got Sonic Origins shortly after. Origins introduced me to Sonic CD, and Sonic 3 & Knuckles. I was now a Sonic fan, but never wanted to try out the 3D games because I had heard for years that they’re awful. But then, one of my friends comes over, and brings their copy of Sonic Adventure DX. I was expecting to hate it, but to my surprise, I actually enjoyed it. And ever since then, I have been a big fan of both the classic, and modern Sonic games. And it all started with this first game in the series.
@@Ninblasto there is something to say about experiencing the game on original hardware too. I much prefer it with a Genesis controller myself! Though I played for this video the Sega classics collection on steam. Switch online is probably a good option with the Genesis NSO controller.
I enjoy Sonic 1 even if I think it’s the weakest of the classics. It still works as a platformer aside from the occasional cheap trap. Goodness, those spikes right at the end of the last chandelier section in Marble Zone. 😂 I’ll never forget how ball stomping that was my first time getting that far.
Good video! Sonic 1 actually cemented my love of video games as a child! It blew me away when I first saw it and played it growing up. It was actually the game that made me choose the Genesis over the SNES. I still enjoy this one a lot and have a lot of nostalgia for it. I look forward to you going through the other classic Sonic games! And, yes, that drowning music _terrified_ me as kid!
@@mattb6522 yes!!! I didn’t own a Sega Genesis, but I really wanted one. I had also played Super Nintendo at friends houses but I was a Genesis guy. Sonic, Earthworm Jim, and GoldenAxe 2 were some of my favorites!!
@@jiggylookback Nice! Sonic, Earthworm Jim, and Golden Axe 2 were awesome! My favorites were Rocket Knight Adventures, Ristar and Castlevania Bloodlines. There were so many greats on the Genesis!
Off topic but Oasis has an amazing cover of I am the Walrus the song Dr Eggman gets his name from...and they just announced they're getting back together next year.
the best Zones: 1- Green Hill (of course!) 2- Starlight (It's Green Hill, but in the sky) 3- Marble (Reminds me of a Bowser castle) 4- Spring Yard (Yeah, the design is weird) 5- Labyrinth (But it's not as bad as most people say) 6- Scrap Brain (too many BS traps...Thank God there's a shortcut in act 3...)
I mean... looks to me like the lava functions like any other hazard outside of straight-up bottomless pits: if you have rings, you lose them and get knocked back, but if you don't have them, that's when you die. Still sturdier than early (NES, SNES) Mario, who couldn't even take lava while under the effects of a Starman, let alone while Super or Fiery.
i started gaming when i was like 2 or 3 i had a ds lite i still have it today i had some gbc games aswel but no system idk were they came from but i had them idk were the games and the other stuff is today
Great lookback makes me want to play right now 😂 My favorite 3d sonic is SA2 and favorite 2d is Sonic CD or S3 & Knuckles I can't decide between the two
What is your favorite Sonic game?
Sonic 2 babyyyyyy
Sonic Adventure 2 Battle
Sonic Unleashed
@@Moonstrider my personal fav
2D - Sonic 2
3D - Sonic Adventure 2
Something about those 2’s
When I was a kid, I thought Marble Hill was Robotnik's home.
It’s kinda got an underground bunker kind of look so I can see that a bit
i saw another one of your comments on another video, it was for a walkthrough on dkc3

I think the only thing I’d swap is maybe spring yard and labyrinth cause I love labyrinth’s music. But we’re basically in agreement here!

The sonic 1 USA manual is wrong you should read the Japanese one they made up the shoe thing in the USA one for some reason
I’ll see if I can find it translated. I like to look at all the manuals because you never know what you’re going to find haha
