    The game is a perfect balance of love and hate. And everything is to make you addicted, every time you get these 300 gold, or you hear you are godlike, or 8/0 in the first 15 mins, dopamine goes brrrr. But then you spend 200h on it, break a table, and a wall, and your ass, so it doesn't feel good anymore... But then Arcane season 2 comes out, so League is the best game again!!11

    The thing that first drew me to league was a bunch of friends and even a few family members telling me to try it out. I remember at the time seeing Ahri and thinking "Yes, that is who I want to play". It was Season 4, I had no idea what I was doing, and I screwed up a lot. But I had fun regardless and it was partially thanks to the 9-tailed fox.
    I would play the game for years. Sometimes playing alone, other time with friends, fielding Ahri for the most part but branching out towards other champs I liked: Swain, Kindred, TF, Azir, Veigar, Kha'zix, Kled, Jhin, Xayah, Ekko, Pyke, and a few others would ended up becoming characters within my roster, and the heydays of seasons 5-8 will remain as some of my favorite memories. But over time, as the game became more e-sports based, the overall game becoming more complex, powercrept, the magic started to wane. Friends I knew for a long time stopped playing and I grew increasingly more frustrated at the push for ranked when I just wanted to have a fun time.
    And in the end, I just didn't have fun anymore. And sadly, I had to leave behind the characters I grew so fond of over the years. Seeing Ahri's ASU now finally come to fruition is amazing and I'm glad she finally got the visual update she needed. But I know that, for my mental health, diving back in the game and experiencing her new model, voicelines, and animations is simply not worth the toxic environment that I left behind and felt better about myself because of it.

    League is chess and chess teaches you everything about life. If you play league correctly. it will teach you to becoem a powerful individual IRL. You will begin to udnerstand that loses are actually wins why? Because you didnt lose your cool. You stayed sane , calm ,chill, relaxed etc. Most peoples league experience is toxic, stressful and depressing mines the opposite because im playing the gme correctly. 5v5 , 2 strikers mid top, 2 playermakers that pass the ball to the strikers top and mid to score and 1 wingman that could possibly score if he wants to but for the most part pass the ball around everyone on the team.

      @@talkgamingtome what's gonna happen after you lose? LP? drop tiers?so?
      Question is whether did you have a calm and chill experience? because this is why i play league. It's very relaxing.
      Even if you win a game. IF you win a game of league. You went 30/0/5. You carried the team that went 0/10/0 but during that entire game you lost control of your mind due to fear of LP, fear of rank demotion, teamates mistakes which all lead to being emotional and then defending the emotional responses with ego. Like how a stereotype that women argue emoionally even if they're wrong because of their EGO.
      Real victory of league is not on the result of the game. It's not about victory or defeat.Its whether you played well, could improve upon something from that game and did you remain calm in high stressful situation. Because when you remain calm. You would udnerstand that there was nothing much that you could do and your opponent took advantage of that. You tried to 1v9 and fix things but you couldn't because of you're teammates scoring own goals.
      If you get teammates who continue to make mistakes and score own goals, thats their issue its not yours. Your job is to focus on you and when you do. When you come out of the game you would develop mental toughness and alot of mind related exercises that condition your brain well. Things that you will have to learn in the army or battlefields of war, work places etc and this will make you a highly aware individual that lives a very conscious life aligned with your spiritual self. You will become the human with a soul in carrying games 1v9 gracefully but deathly and bloody. In a game where everyone else is a toxic NPC bot that soudns the same playing the game incorrectly. and by playing the game incorrectly you damage your brain. Playing chess emotionally only damages the brain and not strengthen it.

    It’s kinda a mystery why I still play. I don’t think any game has frustrated me as much as this game has. Genuinely it feels utterly terrible to be behind. I hate the frustration that going against certain characters, you can feel being down just one kill to such a higher extent than others
    Funnily enough I think it’s the community that makes me stay. I got addicted to it bc I met now good friends who play it. I like using LFG, meeting new people late night and just vibing. It also forces me to work on my tilt rather than cursing at my monitor and hitting my table.
    Then there’s also those moments when I’m having a really good game. I’m a 6-0 Camille and I feel like God.
    It feels amazing to me, but of course those moments feel terrible to the enemy team.
    Due to it’s moba nature it feels very hard to comeback depending on who’s fed on their team. It’s a roll of the dice if it’s actually feasible to come back or not. And it’s incredibly frustrating compared to something like Valoranr where if you’re good enough you can bring your team back from anything.
    I describe the game like nicotine. It has those fun enjoyable moments, but it’s addictive and holy fuck some of the frustration it brings.

    I had a 10 afk streak in ranked and was promptly demotated after I had clawed my way to silver. I am not the best player. I know that but I was being punished for something I didn't do. League has done nothing to improve their system on how people should be punished. The other thing is smurfs. Smurf accounts run rampant at the lower ranks and every game pretty much comes down to "do you have the better smurf?" which is extremly unfun. I think last year I tried it again and it took me 5 games against players to realize why I quit. 3 out of 5 games you had afks. 1 troll Yumi that just attached itself to me and wanted to me to her money and only 1 game where everything was fine. We still lost but that was an actually okay match. 1 out of 5 games was okay. Just okay. Let that sink in.

  • @peradomato

    What League really needs right now is a new way to play the game, not just a crazy build which will be nerfed in two patches, but variety as a whole. One of the reasons why we hate the game so much is because we now every single aspect of the game, there's no new way to play ;"oh, just pick different champions and test new builds"; yes, we can do this, but it will be the same map with the same rules which i've been accustomed to since 2012. We've been here for more than a decade, and played the hell out of this, and in the past it was really fun, there was always something new, but nowadays the game is still, there's nothing new, just the same old ranked mode, normal draft, and ARAM, and after a while, we became tired of it. A good example would be with Super Mario Bros for the NES, that's a good game, old, but good, you can replay that for eternity, and after a while, you'll be bored of it, because you know it too well, but you can spice things up with speed run attempts and mods, you can change things in a substancial and visible way, but with league... Ok, you can use one of those awesome map mods, but the game doesn't change, it's just a skin, like the 100+ skins we got last year.

    300th comment, better make this count!
    Well, let me just say, I think you've hit the ball out of the park with this deep dive into the mentality of a tenacious player; I once felt that urge to win and improve myself. But, let me tell you how that tenacity finally broke, leading to my second permanent ban from the game; as well as why I sincerely hope that second account will be my last. The differences don't seem all that big on their own, but... these three factors definitely add up.
    Firstly, the 2023 cinematic was nothing short of disappointing. You know it, I know it, Riot knows it; and despite the devs claiming up and down there's a lot coming for LoLPC... it's hard to feel like it's their top priority, given what comes out for Valorant, LoR, and Wild Rift.
    Second, the tendency towards balance by dilution rather than by saturation; that is, they're typically choosing to nerf the strongest strategies, instead of buffing its counters... and when they try to give something buffs or introduce items that give a breath of fresh air to the game, the concepts get abused too hard and Riot immediately dilutes it again. I use the term "diluted" because when a game is balanced this way, it feels very watered down.
    Lastly, the bad player angle has been compounded by a different problem that has only worsened since this video's release and my second permanent suspension: BOTS. I dropped to high Iron due to a combination of my dwindling patience/sanity and dedication to a champion that was kinda falling off in the 12.1 meta even though everyone thought he was still amazing. In the games leading up to my permanent suspension, I learned that Iron players literally have to test now whether their allies are humans that can speak in chat; most often, ADCs asking their supports. Add to that that Iron players will often go experimental in ranked when normal draft is RIGHT FUCKING THERE... and you have the reason my final game of League on my second (and hopefully last) account involved me, as Udyr jungle, selling my items to buy Mobility Boots and Hearthbound Axe, just to run down the game harder than my Vayne mid was feeding the Lee Sin and Malzahar; just to end it that much more quickly since I surmised that defeat was inevitable anyway.
    League has been appealing for all these years... but I think now it's just starting to finally rot from the inside out, as Riot slowly takes its eggs out of the 10 year old basket, hoping no one notices the painted rocks they're replaced with. Those who are better than me at the game still get what they want out of it, but... it's just not for me anymore. And if you're reading this, I hope it made you consider whether or not League was for you... or at the very least, I hope the rest of your day goes well!

    • @talkgamingtome
      @talkgamingtome  Год назад

      For the 300th comment, that WAS pretty epic. All totally valid reasons for being disappointed. I was also hyped for the cinematics and the one this year was just...ouch. All these comments have made me consider whether League was worth it and I'm slowly starting to think it isn't - at least compared to the MANY other games I'd rather be playing. Thanks again for the comment and hope your days go well too!

    One thing about league is that although you don't carry any in-game progress to the next game, you carry over your emotions...if someone tilted you too damn hard, you'll feel easier to rage the next game, and if you have a series of incredibly bad losses (especially so if you think you're not the one that caused the losses), you'll become the flaming human trash that you hate, and your toxicity in that one game would also keep the cycle going.
    Doesn't really help when my main champ is teemo.

    I just want to start by saying, great video! I appreciate how well you broke down your love/hate relationship with league.
    While I do agree that the community is the worst part about league, my reasons aren't exactly for the same reason as you mentioned in your video. People who are toxic in game are definitely the worst of the bunch, but I do feel like there's an unhealthy tendency for people both in and outside the League playerbase to trash on the game for the sake of it. League definitely has a ton of problems and a ton of things to be mad about but many of them aren't really unique to League itself. You're absolutely correct in saying that it's how the game is structured that is amplifying these common issues. Constructive criticism is definitely warranted for all its flaws but I feel like the game's reputation has long preceded it. Similar to self-deprecating jokes, it's all fun and games until you've eventually convinced yourself to actually believe it.
    I think I'm in a very small majority of people who don't harbor any resentment towards League. I believe that the most important thing for a League player to do to avoid burnout or straight up hating the game is to do some self reflection. It's important to set some boundaries on what you can and cannot take before your mental takes a hit. Some people have a high tolerance for toxicity but some don't. I wouldn't call myself tiltproof, quite the opposite actually. I find myself bitter whenever someone becomes toxic towards me. What I do is that the moment I feel like the vibes are off, whether it be someone typing anything remotely toxic or spamming pings to me, I immediately mute all. Perhaps it's just because I'm an Evelynn one-trick with a selfish playstyle, but I genuinely feel like the moment the chat takes any amount of downturn, any upside with pings or callouts gets drowned out by nonsense.
    In the same vein, it's also important for players to come to terms with what makes the game fun for them. Some people enjoy solo queue, others enjoy aram or tft, and others still burn out and stop being able to get any worthwhile fun out of the game. They're all valid and people shouldn't feel disheartened for doing what they enjoy or in the latter case, quitting what they don't. I despise ranked not mainly because of the players, but because of the pressure I get putting my rank on the line. Every time I'm in solo queue champ select I can feel my heart beat in anxiety even though I'll lock in Eve 95% of the time. It's why I'm content with just playing normal games. What I love is playing the champs I've found to enjoy in the style I enjoy. I guess it's why I'm so quick to /muteall lobbies, I know what I enjoy and I know what to do if anyone ever tries to make me do something I don't. In my perspective, I know the extent of my skills and I'm confident I can reach Diamond if I play enough games but I find it unnecessary to go through all the stress of grinding so much games to reach a goal when I can just play the game for the enjoyment of just playing it. I understand that I'm likely a minority amongst a very competitive community, but it's simply what I find most enjoyable about it just. I just hope that more people can find and appreciate what they find enjoyable about League too.

I'm learning how to play jungle and when I know I'm having a bad game seeing "jg diff" is pretty annoying but that's what /mute all is for. I think the reason why people quit is because they don't know how to pace themselves. I've seen people go on a 5-10 game losing streak in a day and still continue to play. I set myself to play at 7am in the morning when I'm well rested, if I lose two games I'll try one more time. If I lose a third time I'll stop playing for a couple hours and do something else. I started the game by playing the hardest champ at the time, Riven. I then switched to Lee Sin when i switched my role to jungle and played him and only him for years until i mastered him and got diamond 3 years in a row. When Gangplank got reworked and he looked like he was one of the hardest champions to play i switched to him. I like challenging myself to coming up with a pick like Poppy in support and saying "I'm gonna try to get to diamond doing only this". I never play anything that's considered top tier. My relationship with league is actually pretty healthy, I remember back in 2014 when I first started playing (And when my hype for the game was at it's peak, since I really wanted to play league but prior didnt had a capable PC), I would get bored after 3 to 5 games, after that I was off to play something else or whatever. Now I must have like 2000 hours spend playing the game, and over the years my friends started playing lol too because of me (I now convinced two of then to play Tarkov with me, you can guess how fun is for then learning that game), and none of us really had an adiction to league.
    If you ask me, the worst thing that came out of me playing league is breaking a glass table I used to play on over getting lane camped, out of which I came out without damages. And about the toxic teammates, I changed the size of the chat log to make it so small I cant read what people type in there, so I guess that helps.

    The reason the game is so addictive is because of the use of dark patterns which manipulate you into a feeling of sunken cost. The sunken cost fallacy means that no matter how bad the game makes you feel, quitting feels worse.
    Ranked matchmaking is designed to make you play as many games as possible before reaching the rank your skill deserves even though you can be playing against other players of similar skill the whole way there; often with manufactured hot/cold streaks which engender unhealthy play patterns.
    Then if you do manage to quit, the esport or other projects like arcane remind you about the game in a positive way, and you forget the toxicity and jump back in to start the process all over again.

The fact it's even more braindead addicted chaos with players who don't know how to do anything means I prefer the salty League players because even if everyone's doing their own thing, there's a general understanding on teamwork and winning the game.
    It's hard sometimes, but to be successful you have to keep ypur head cool. If you let yourself get distracted by feeding, or teammates feeding, you cant play from behind. This is one reason I like playing the girly champs, because they're bright and cheery, so they encourage you to stay positive. Or Vex, because she doesn't care about anything, why should I tilt when she's apathy incarnate? (Have you ever met a toxic Braum player?)

    I have fun every time I play and I've been playing since 2011 just mute the jerks and don't expect every game to go exactly how you want it to. Find friends who are tilt proof and just make fun strategies. It's all how you approach the game it doesn't always have to be a weiner measuring contest.

      Well said. That seems to be the way to go - just mute all and focus on doing your best and having fun.

    I think everyone has some of that competetive side in them but when riot makes stupid balance changes not once , many times after another continiously makes you think they dont care about the game so why should you , ive started in season 5 and by season 7 or 8 i was just done and decided to quit it ive came back once in a while but always came to the same conclusion , riot games just sucks in game design.

      Oh I've felt the same, especially when they nerf the adc role (like this season). Takes the whole team to kill a Mundo.

    I come from a very similar situation. My question is do you regret the time wasted into league and if so, how do you justify the idea of playing more?

    • @talkgamingtome
      @talkgamingtome  Год назад

      Oooo great question. I regret the time I spent early on chasing wins as that would lead to some late nights and never felt good. More recently, I only play a couple times a week and use the game more of a break between other games. It's something I can play for an hour with a clear start and end.

    That being said, the most rewarding experiences are in all chat when you mention an idea on how to shutdown an enemy and you can execute the plan with that random teammate. Too bad you get banned for naughty words even though everyone would rather have them not run it down or afk. It's almost like there is a mute button.

    • @talkgamingtome

      Ya, everyone should just start muted - it would save a lot of time.

    I literally reached Master and just found that I was fed up with the fucking toxic people that it’s in that league +. I came back after a two years break. Guess what?. It’s the same.

    • @talkgamingtome
      @talkgamingtome  Год назад +1

      Well congrats on Master! But ya, the toxic people really hurt the game as a whole and that will probably never change unless there is a huge shift in how the game is experienced or rewards you.

      @@talkgamingtome you hear everyone saying that in those leagues people has a different mind, but it’s a whole lie. It’s like every little mistake it’s a real advantage for the enemy, and sometimes there are players that just can’t control their fucking mind and just insult, troll or sometimes just don’t play because they want you to lose on purpose (kinda like in every other league, lol). They push your limits so bad that you leave hurt from that game!!!. It shouldn’t be like that, but ranking it’s a real big deal in those leagues. I just don’t stand that anymore, so I just play normals to have “fun”.

      @@Sereny4 Good to know it's the same sort of pressure at all levels. Maybe normals is the way to go but I've found the skill difference there to be WILD as some people try new stuff and others play their mains. Maybe ARAM is the answer lol.
