I started playing League of Legends in season 3, and let me tell you: even though it might seem imbalanced and ugly, the game itself was far superior to what it is now. Back then, having fun was the biggest priority. And I actually had fun, even when you were losing. The runes and masteries + items gave you very creative options for every champion. Nobody was super competitive like they are now. The game looked and felt a lot more cozy and mysterious. I truly miss old LoL. I've quit the game for a while now, because it's not good for your health, but if they would make a seperate 'old school' version of it with only the old champs, old items and everything else that belonged in the game before the updated map and jungle camps... I would totally come back to League
Agreed, they should totally make LoL Classic and go back from S2 or S3 and slowly progress further. They killed the game over the years with the anti social decisions and the champs they released, its just too many now and many of them are just slight copies of another.
There was a fan project that was reviving s2 and it was coming along great sadly riot killed it Have quit LoL for a while now but like you if the brought back a classic s1-s3 version I would jump back in instantly
Ok sorry bruv, but no, it was not creative, and no, it didn't have fun as its priority. That we ruined pretty early on. It was pretty much as toxic as it "ended up" being, and you should optimise as much as you do now, only in a more generic way. If a game didn't lose its mystique after 15 years that it's been out, it'd be kinda weird, donchu think? But, don't wear rose-tinted glasses in the name of nostalgia or inexcusable noobness. It was as awful and as beautiful as it is now. Only we got bored of it. That's just healthy.

@@dasein0 I have all the icons, but vandril made a vid showing how it van be abused. Some ppl picked tanks and just disrupted the enemies, putting them in an endless game where the only way out was /ff
My friends n me tried to replicate this in normal drafts. But instead of becoming a raidboss by ascending, we played 4 supports and one hyperscaling midlaner, usually Jax. I still remember fondly one of them playing Soraka jungle (the old one, with mana regen and healing to her teammates) and "reverse ganking" me when I was the raidboss. Basically filling up my HP/Mana so I could keep fighting forever. The jungle buffs were also not shared back in the day and for a really long time, the ability to jungle was determined whether or not you could sacrifice the second blue to your midlaner... God, I miss old League. People say it's nostalgia, but it really was a different game, while still sharing the same core mechanics, it doesn't play the same anymore. League allowed you to have fun back in the day, nowadays it's all about the competition. Same fate has struck CS and gaming as a whole. It's all about a stupid rank nobody gives a damn about.
I got the old draft music as my ringtone that's dope because when I get up in the morning I got that lil stressed energy boost I use to get when I Q up on league back in 2013
Played since beta. The old champions had so much character. Much better identities. Stop playing for a several years because it felt like all the champs I loved were gone.
i miss old league so freaking much, the map, the pre rework champs, the items, the fun builds u could do, league back then was so different, the game was about having fun and not minmaxing every second u spend in the game.
Rune pages as well as for buying runes on the market. The Tribunal, such a great jewel to punish bad people. The items in the shop, the numbers were 10 times bigger than what we currently have now. The masteries page. Imagine, you are level 1 as Rammus and start with 100 armor points, it was just crazy.
@@raymondjoannette8052 I already recorded one part for the runes. But I didn't have enough time to edit it. Don't worry. I'll make a part two. Because the tribunal was so funny 😭 I can't wait to talk about it
1:58 being autofilled was what made everyone somehow good in every roles or learn something new about the role and that particular game. Nowadays, most of the playerbase won't go outside their comfort role, unless you're an ARAM player and likes to experiment stuff.
Twisted treeline was legit the best map they made. The fact they decided it was too hard to balance but decided aram wasnt blows my mind, especially when you put aram on clash
I'm watching the video right now and my game just found a match at this exact moment 1:56 and hearing the old queue sound as my client popped up gave me such a nostalgia flashback, that timing was kinda scary lol
Can we please have a S1-S2 classic version tho? The game felt so much better back then, and not just because of nostalgia. It was the weaknesses. Every champ sucked in most everything and you had to play around their 1 or 2 strengths. That made the team dynamic so much more interesting. This insane assassin? Yeah, they can't farm to save their life and need to be babysat for quite a bit. That amazing support? Yeah, they deal absolutely no damage whatsoever and have no concept of movement. Overcoming those weaknesses as a team was great. If it clicked in terms of composition and plays, it felt amazing. If something was off, you'd damn well feel it.
Old League of Legends was awesome! Pretty much my only criticism of it was that runes were too expensive. It took forever to save up enough ip just to complete 1 rune page. You either had to choose between unlocking new champions, or buying runes. Most people usually just had 1 cookie cutter rune page for AD champs, and 1 for AP champs.
im crying right now. dominion was such a great mode, not only on its own, but also when all the fun limited game modes were played on that map, i fuckin loved these times.
I had my account since between season 1 and 2 of League, I think it was near Shyvana release. For ARAM, I think for a while there was a Proving Grounds custom map which was what people used to play ARAM before Howling Abyss was officially released. It was a one lane map with health relics, no recalls, etc. essentially ARAM beta mode.
Shyvana was the first ever champion spotlight i ever seen man! I didnt play and my friend went to visit me in uni and asked for my pc to watch the video on youtube and i watched along and then started playing.
2:48 Coming from S3, THIS is SO underratedly true and something I wish I realized a lot earlier!! As a result of growing up and playing casually with this system, I put myself in the most auto-pilot death-spiral of "I'll just auto-fill everytime, so I can premptively cover the roles people arent confident in playing here" till like S10. I was so caught up on trying to mechanically master every champion and their abilities, i didn't even learn what macro was till S11 / S12 LMAO
ay man thanks for reminding me how precious the game was back in the day. This game saved me alot when i was bored. Funny how you started too when you was about to go in highschool.
As someone who started playing League in season 10, The idea that you have to type in chat what role you wanted in rank bogles my mind. The amount of argument and frustrations with role picking/bans would've been insane lol.

aaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh i miss old league, this video took me back as I also started sometime during s2/s1. How insane are those back to back season 2 champion releases though, timeless designs and kit, to this very day, Syndra has to be the most consistently picked/banned champion at worlds across more than a decade, and a few others in s2 are right behind her.
important details about draft that you missed. 1. There was no role calling in draft, that was only used on blind pick. In draft people choose their role in the order of the picks, and last pick always got support. People did not respect it at all, “mid or feed” was a recurring phrase, and since that was not enforced by Riot, people could refuse to play in a position without facing consequences. 2. The order was dictated by elo/mmr. The highest elo always got first pick. So one strategy was to duo queue with someone way below your elo and always get the first pick, since the other 3 players would have less elo than you.
i mean by the most part people still enforced it lol, ironic enough people were more toxic in chat but not so much in actual game also still remember carrying games with double jungle ;_;
@@pedronabais1456 Back in S1 and S2 there wasnt so much of a 'right way' People were still just experimenting, and just playing the game. People didnt immediately flame everyone for every little thing, if they did they didnt get banned, and now... idk... I hate it tbh. I wish it was like it was before. The roles and way people play. Ranked is all no life sweats, half of which who suck, and even riot doesnt treat casual games lobby as thought their casual(in fact riot pushed alot of the roll based toxicity because it appeals to foreign markets)
@tandava-089 tbf to an extent, that's unstoppable, as people get better the thrive to get better increases but yeah riot tried for the first few seasons to keep the variety and fun as the main focus but quickly strided to competitive instead, to the modern age where would they would fuck all servers for months bc patches would be balanced and thinked to a specific tournament in pro play
@@pedronabais1456 The change happened EXACTLY when the communists took over the company. Its been all downhill since then, while that isnt obvious because they used E-sports to leverage the good that was already there to go hyper-global..... But the game itself has only gotten worse, with some exceptions for small streamlining, map improvement(which is a mixed bag) and qol features
Man I started during 2010 snowdown showdown. Still getting chills when I hear login screen music. I'm very proud that I never got clinically insane from this game. Few times I was probably close tho. People nowadays don't know how to play other roles because they never experienced "pick order" times.
League is 10x better today than it was back then. If you wanted to play dominion or Twisted Treeline so badly you should have actually played it. They would never remove it if those were as popular as aram/or summoners rift. It was unfun and tidious to grind runes while getting shit on by people who already unlocked them. The only reason anyone would think differently is that you have nostalgia. You probably think back to a different time where you would meet your friends online after school and play and try out new builds in a game you have not yet mastered. Now those friends are grown up, with wife and having their first or second child and you only have time for a few games here and there and your friendlist is offline. You mastered the game so it’s hard to be creative and come up with new fun builds. It is all factors that are not because of the game itself. The game today is 10x better than the game was in 2012.
It had many problems for sure. Runes and mastery pages absolutely sucked, champ select was painful and had the potential to ruin your game way before it even started. But a lot of stuff was actually objectively better. You had longer fights, teamfights felt rewarding and you could do a couple of spell rotations before it ended, misplays were much less punishing (because you were not instantly one shot by one item Caitlyn). Dominion and Twisted Treeline were never my favorite game modes, but I would argue that having them was still a plus for the game as a whole. Right now they finally started to come up with new modes again, but there was a time the game felt very stale. Also, and that is a personal issue, skins used to be actually good. They were fun, worked only on that one champion (like Hillbilly Gragas, Brolaf, Pharaoh Nasus...). They added personality instead of being a part of dumb skin line that always has either Lux or Yasuo anime skin lol. And I also don't like the direction they chose to take with new skins, where visual clarity is compromised for flashy animations that look nothing like the original champion. I think in an ideal world the game should have not gotten so bursty and snowbally. Taking turrets is way too easy, diving is way too easy (like ADCs have no real job to do nowadays, since mages tear down turrets and objectives very fast. So instead of doing what they were designed to do they just one shot assassins) and classes and their weaknesses got so blurred that you have some champs that can do everything and can be played in any role. But I would definitely want to keep the current champ select / runes, etc.
To be fsir i played allot of dominion and was constsntly finding matched for thrm even when it was removed. Now twisted treeline is where i started the game and it was thr onlything i played at first then someone made me m9ve to summonders rift and i had a hard time ever going back. But i also played since beta and i think summoners rift was not in yet or it had a level restriction or something. I forget so long ago

I started playing when Darius was released back in 2012 May. I can remember the loading screen and how hyped everyone was about Darius. I didnt even wanna play the game but my friend insisted i try it and here i am 12 years later still playing the game. Ofc i had long/short pauses but the longevity of this game is crazy.
Old LoL has that DotA DNA running deep, especially in the art style of the old client. Everyone wanted to be carry to just auto attack to victory, nobody wanted to be support because you'd be poor all game. Every season has made it easier and more fun to play support since. Rune pages were terrible pay to win/grindfest just to be on equal footing with others.
The champ design back then was so much more simple, and in my opinion, fun. Like building 5 rid of ages on rhze and rolling my fingers across the keyboard, with not a single thought in my mind, until someone died was so great. Critplank where you would just press q on someone and they would go down 3/4 hp lmaooo the best.
I started my league journey when cassiopeia was the newest champ released. I remember back in the day if you had a skin, you were hella good of the game, nowadays everyone has a skin. Also that old nostalgic champ select theme was music to my ears, just listening to those drums be having you ready to start the game

Agreed, they should totally make LoL Classic and go back from S2 or S3 and slowly progress further. They killed the game over the years with the anti social decisions and the champs they released, its just too many now and many of them are just slight copies of another.
know exactly what you're talking about, there was just so much character in the old version.
I think we just aged budd
There was a fan project that was reviving s2 and it was coming along great sadly riot killed it
Have quit LoL for a while now but like you if the brought back a classic s1-s3 version I would jump back in instantly

The ASCENSION mode was the mode that i enjoyed the most back in the day, i don't know if someone remembers it but it was so fun to compete for the ascension by defeating the Xerath that was on the middle of the map
@@dasein0 I got the Ascension icon 😫
@@dasein0 I have all the icons, but vandril made a vid showing how it van be abused. Some ppl picked tanks and just disrupted the enemies, putting them in an endless game where the only way out was /ff
i still flex the perfect ascension icon, i went to a bronze friend house and we did it ;D crazy times man
Same! I always play Teemo and Wukong so OP.
I got the old draft music as my ringtone that's dope because when I get up in the morning I got that lil stressed energy boost I use to get when I Q up on league back in 2013
The old music was so so good.

Call fo Duty and League player veteran, never mess with this guy
Imagine how many kids he edcuated that he b*nged their mom 😭
Twisted treeline was legit the best map they made. The fact they decided it was too hard to balance but decided aram wasnt blows my mind, especially when you put aram on clash
I'm watching the video right now and my game just found a match at this exact moment 1:56 and hearing the old queue sound as my client popped up gave me such a nostalgia flashback, that timing was kinda scary lol
We need a old league gamemode
If something was off, you'd damn well feel it.
old league had so much atmosphere back then. I kinda miss these old maps and game modes.
Man thanks bro this video took me back to them old days
Old League of Legends was awesome! Pretty much my only criticism of it was that runes were too expensive. It took forever to save up enough ip just to complete 1 rune page. You either had to choose between unlocking new champions, or buying runes. Most people usually just had 1 cookie cutter rune page for AD champs, and 1 for AP champs.
full gold runes gogogogogo
@@TheSaival Gold runes lol XD
im crying right now. dominion was such a great mode, not only on its own, but also when all the fun limited game modes were played on that map, i fuckin loved these times.
That was later, S1 did not have that for sure. Plus of the custom game was that if someone trolled rest would just quit the game and it was over
Shyvana was the first ever champion spotlight i ever seen man! I didnt play and my friend went to visit me in uni and asked for my pc to watch the video on youtube and i watched along and then started playing.
Seeing the old shop made me remember how cool it and everything else was or seemed back in the day
2:48 Coming from S3, THIS is SO underratedly true and something I wish I realized a lot earlier!!
3:42 ahhh the sound of match found😢
0:01 i love how you added that detail in xD
Such a nostalgic trip of a video, only two minutes in but subbed and liked, awesome work man. Sitback and enjoy type shi
As someone who started playing League in season 10, The idea that you have to type in chat what role you wanted in rank bogles my mind. The amount of argument and frustrations with role picking/bans would've been insane lol.
@@astrograph7875 old League was a special place. Either the worst most toxic lobbies since COD or meet some of the coolest people. I still have friends I talk to from the old daysb
it was really funny because last pick always usually always support

Last pick was always support. You just accepted it at some point
@@Blubking1 maybe but support did end up being fun in the early days even if u wanted to strangle the adc on occasion
2012 is when I played. My buddy and I played a ton after high school soccer practice. Just now getting back into it in 2024 and I still love it.
This video dropped the same day I dreamed about playing seasons 3-5 again lol
I remember the OG music during the champion select. That shit was so intense, you had a real anxiety before the game starts.
I started playing in 2009. I hated the game then but I was already addicted so a nice 15 years later I am still freebasing the game
it is so much better when some1 can play all roles cause so you understand things better than just doing the same thing over and over again
thank you for bringing joy to y heart. i miss old league and i dont normally see content of it, you made my day better
that ranked queue sound is the definition of anxiety
Old league was the best. I can't stand the new league. I hate the new map. I hate the reworks. I just want it to go back to what it used to be. I would never complain. I just want it back. Can we petition to bring it back.
I started playing when Varus got released, crazy the days where youd type "ADC" to a friend to copy and paste it and then spam paste once you got to champ select lmao what a time to game
Really surprised you have fewer than 1000 subs, this was a great video
aaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh i miss old league, this video took me back as I also started sometime during s2/s1. How insane are those back to back season 2 champion releases though, timeless designs and kit, to this very day, Syndra has to be the most consistently picked/banned champion at worlds across more than a decade, and a few others in s2 are right behind her.
Underrated channel 🦾
If i recall correctly zed's ult used to steal the shadow of the enemy, giving him bonus ad if the opponent had more bonus ad than the last one ulted.
@@Zach_Aria15 that was added then removed.

Started in season 2 baby. Still rocking the christmas wreath icon. Can't believe ive been playing for 12 years
important details about draft that you missed.
So one strategy was to duo queue with someone way below your elo and always get the first pick, since the other 3 players would have less elo than you.
i mean by the most part people still enforced it lol, ironic enough people were more toxic in chat but not so much in actual game
also still remember carrying games with double jungle ;_;
@tandava-089 tbf to an extent, that's unstoppable, as people get better the thrive to get better increases
but yeah riot tried for the first few seasons to keep the variety and fun as the main focus but quickly strided to competitive instead, to the modern age where would they would fuck all servers for months bc patches would be balanced and thinked to a specific tournament in pro play
This .. this right here. I agree on you man. Its all nostalgia. I hate the rune system too
It had many problems for sure.
I forget so long ago
back in the day I remember having to use curse voice just to chat with friends and when that got removed we switched to skype. The loading screens were the funniest too because it showed whos pc was the slowest and showed how bad their ping was, they were always getting flamed
Man the background music in the intro (draft music) hits hard

This makes me sad. Honestly, I'm not even kidding sad. I alnost want to cry at where the time has gone... i started season one but was so scared to play ranked season one that I didn't lol ... I miss twisted treeline and dominion so much! They really should ad it in game again from time to time, even if it's only a limited time event. another little detail i miss, is that you could honor your opponents. I play the game since season 2, man I feel old now xD
I first played during September 2019, just before Syndra dropped. My first game was Lux mid, coached by my friends. nearly 7 yaers later, I finally hit diamond in soloQ. God, what a time to be alive. I wish I could go back.

I know its a minor note. On Ahri they removed her damage bonus on her E. Charmed champions used to take an additional 20% damage.

Rune pages were terrible pay to win/grindfest just to be on equal footing with others.
just hearing that old queue pop sound instantly flooded my brain with nostalgia 😓
