I take 300 mg, 3 times a day or as needed for anxiety and alcohol cravings. It helps my anxiety and also feels like a antidepressant after a few months. Good thing about it is that it doesnt numb you like xanax or valium, to me it feels like a upper sometimes that gives me motivation and calmness. I really recommend it.
I have kidney disease, which recently progressed to Stage IV. I am also diabetic with significant neuropathy in my feet and legs. The dose of Gabapentin used to be 200 mg am/300 mg at bedtime. As my kidney function worsened I had severe side effects from Gabapentin: dizziness, memory loss, confusion, falling asleep throughout the day. My nephrologist decreased the dosage to 100 mg twice a day. Then I suffered withdrawal symptoms! I had severe night sweats along with hot flashes during the day, agitation, stomach cramping. I think it is important for people to know you cannot just stop this medication - you must taper down slowly under the direction of your physician.
Intetesting also that gaba is #5 on the top 10 list of prescribed medications. I started taking it for neuropathy in my feet. Then I had a period of jerks in my legs at night when I had reduced my dose. I took more than my prescribed dose when I had occipital nerve event that lasted a couple three days..couldnt even touch my hair..moving was impossible. It helped. Then I stepped down off of it and started getting hot flashes..i was 4 yrs into menopause..Dr said get back on the higher dose of gaba. It's worked. I stepped off all of my meds for about 6 weeks and didnt have any foot pain..I wanted to know. But then the hot flashes ensued. It is an estrogen suppressant. I dont feel irritable or tired. Im used to it. It is the one prescription I take with dedication. Sorry to ramble. It crosses over into helping alot of things is my point. Thank you for the video.
I use it for fibromyalgia pain. It is the only prescription medication that helps my pain. It makes me sleepy all day & makes me gain weight by increasing my appetite. :( I've gained so much weight over the years. It can also create a tolerance so you need to gradually increase it to get the same benefits. It blocks the making of new neural pathways in the brain so it affects your memory & ability to learn new things negatively. It is good for nerve pain at a cost. Lyrica is worse because it is stronger. He should discuss the side effects. It also makes one irritable. If I take 1000mg/day it takes care of my pain but I'm an irritable zombie. I dropped down to 900mg/day. I still have pain and I'm slightly less of a zombie & definitely irritable. I can forget what I'm doing while I'm doing it. Still it and medical cannabis are the only things that help my pain.
These doctors kill me. They say if you have these side effects contact your doctor. So you want me to contact the same psycho who prescribed this ridiculous drug to me. With all of these horrible side effects. They should be in jail.
Unfortunately every medication has his own side effects, all of these medication should be used for appropriate indication. Any physician should have a very clear discussions about side effects and complications of all these medications
