My grandmother died a few months ago at age 98! She spent much of her life dedicated to helping others. But she spoke her mind, ate her dessert first, and drove a convertible with a leopard print steering wheel cover. I aspire to be that kind of old lady.

My mother lived to be 95. Her parents were in their early ‘70s and her maternal grandmother was 57. Once she hit 73 she decided she was living on borrowed time. They truly were the greatest generation.

Every time I went to go see my grandpa after saying hello and giving me a hug he would always ask me “”have you still been taking your medicine, how are your anxieties doing ?? is it getting better at all”” (( bc of the antidepressants lol) he tried so hard to understand and it was the cutest thing ever🥺
Bless his heart! Your Grandpa loves and worries about you so much! You are so lucky to have him! My Grandma told me not to tell anyone I was crazy (when she heard I was antidepressant)! 🤦♀️

In her day they literally did send women away to asylums for being depressed. And as she is your grandma she might be where you got it and she may not have been treated with kindness.

I once typed in all caps for my deaf friend, we passed the point of political correctness many moons ago. Friends for 26 years and I think we stopped being polite 25 years 11 months 3 weeks and 6 days ago.

Someone once said “OK Boomer” to me in a comment thread. It was the first time I heard/saw the phrase, so I replied “actually I was born in 76. My parents are baby boomers, I’m Gen X”. He replied that I’m so out of the loop that I don’t even know what a Boomer is and that I indeed am one. That it has nothing to do with when I’m born. 🙄 my god - the kid actually thought that Boomer was a new term and didn’t have any actual roots. So for those that don’t know- The “baby boom” was after world war 2 when everyone in Europe, Japan and North America came home after 4-5 years at war and got busy making babies- hence Baby Boomers

Not so much the end of it tho. My dad got out of the army in 1947. I was born in 1960. But they call those of us at the end the Jones Generation because we were born WELL after the baby boom.

I think to many in younger generations boomer is not short for baby boomer but for what they would consider an older person with redundant views (likely who engages with them disrespectfully [without valuing the generational differences or blaming children for the culture they were raised in). My kids are 8 and they definitely couldn't care less that grandpa is too old to be a boomer. They still call him one. 😂 People who create definitions have power to say what the words mean. I wouldn't dismiss it so quickly as false because it's not literal. Generational names never were. They have no meaning apart from what we give them.

If the “boomer” is in fact behaving disrespectfully, generally they receive a much bigger response than a simple dismissive “OK Boomer”. I agree that they see the term as referring to anyone older - and this is where they are simply wrong lol

My mom (79) thinks every Facebook post she sees has been personally sent to her. She keeps asking me how all these companies and people get her personal info. On the flip side, she also believes every single post of hers is directly seen by every person she has friended and if they don't respond, it's them specifically choosing to not comment on her deep thoughts for the day.
There is a lady on our towns Facebook who thinks exactly like your mother.
It took years for it to finally sink in how Facebook worked. Many many people tried to teach her that and in person not just online.
So now instead of being rude on posts she doesn't agree with she just says
Okay on every post. Shes acknowledging that someone posts cuz that's polite lol.

I once joined a 'Flat Earth' group. They had a 24 hour confirmation on their approval to join. For the next twenty four hours I gathered pictures of every round thing I could. A globe, a Baseball, a basket ball, a tennis ball, my balls.
When I got the approved notification I made one post.
All the pictures of round objects, especially the globe, and asked one question......"Are you sure?"

My dad gets mad at ads and yells at telemarketing bots like they can hear him. Lol! - I love him. 😂
I like to yell at the bots because sometimes they'll respond like I said something positive and it's hilarious. "Hi, this is Botanna, from Botcorp, how are you?" "FUCK YOUR COUCH!" "Great! Glad to hear it!"
I often yell at my television, especially the news. Once I scared the hell out of my dogs, so I am more careful now.
My husband always asks me why our adult children wear torn jeans. He says I should teach them how to use the iron so they can put patches on them.😂
We have a “grandparent chat” group text where my husband and I send pics of our son so that all four grandparents get them at roughly the same time. My dad ROUTINELY sends nonsense, off topic crap like that brisket one to the group text. The other day, he started quoting The Grapes of Wrath 🤷🏼♀️🤦🏼
I can just imagine the hilarity if my grandmother had learned to use the internet. One of my cousins was telling her about a friend having a baby and how much it hurt, and mamaw said, "Yeah, they hurt a lot more coming out than they do going in."🤣🤣🤣

That is hilarious! Sounds like something my dear Aunt Erkie would have said. She was married 5 times, and traveled in a carnival when she was young (my mom never would tell me what her carny job was, and I was afraid to ask. Regret that now).
Her mouth had no filter, and she's one of the funniest people I've ever known. She would be 98 if she was still here. She made it to 88.
Only after I was in my 30s did I realize that when we called her "Aunt Erkie", it sounded exactly like "ANARCHY"! I believe she knew it all along.
We named a pet turkey for her, "Erkie the turkey". 😍

I wear really ripped jeans and this one time a B&M worker went “pet do you need a needle and thread?” She was so proud of herself she told the younger staff members as well as anyone around. My mam won’t let me live it down😂

I don't get the hate for ripped jeans. They have been around since the 70s and maybe earlier.
I used to be Father Christmas for a charity each year. I'd ask what the kids wanted for Christmas, if there was a big sis wearing ripped jeans I'd say "Looks like you've had a fall, don't worry I'll get you some new jeans". The youngsters and adults would love it, mostly the subject would take the joke and play along:-)
I wore stressed jeans in the mid 1990’s and visited North Dakota to see my partner’s family. (we lived in NYC)
Her nephew, age 6, asked my if I had anymore cheap suits like the one I was wearing? 😂😂
Years later when we reminded him “of that time”, and he was mortified. So adorable!

My dear SIL shared her recipe for stuffed jalapenos called "Armadillo Balls", and I bring them to pot-lucks along with a few copies of the recipe because someone always asks. Not exactly "heart-healthy" but really delicious Southern food!

They hide them under the Replies. Hey, I'm open-minded as heck but it just seems disgusting and inappropriate here. It's almost like we are family, The Potato Queen and her Croquettes. Hence, I have been getting them deleted by clicking Report under the three dots. When YT notifies us that someone has replied, and it shows up as one of these, can we all try to get them off of here-it is disgusting and I don't know why someone would be OK with a hooker site being hidden under one's nice posting 4, 5 hours! Ick!

That potato salad one got me smiling. I'm the potato salad maker in our family. No one gets my recipe! In fact, when I get bugged about it, I'll give them the recipe but always omit my secret spice. I have written it out and put it in a strong box, hidden in the hayloft. So after I die, if no one takes the time to clean the hayloft thoroughly, no one will get the recipe! I'll be having a good laugh, wherever I end up!!

This is why I love my grandpa he is an eighty year old man with dementia and his wife is dead. He lives in a nursing home and every time my mom visits, he engages in conversations for all of five minutes then he says get out. "Give me my food and get out" he truly gives no shits and this reminded me of him. Lovely video

My dad (who passed 26 years ago) used to talk about his Irish grandmother who had many funny sayings. One of his faves was when someone was talking too much, or saying really stupid shtuff: "Your tongue will be happy when your head's cold!"
She died in 1957, (102, I think) before I was born but her legend lives on in our family!
In the late 1800s, she married a very handsome man who was 18 years younger than her. He was a professional gambler and they met on a riverboat. She was a wealthy widow, and there were rumors that her late husband had buried a lot of silver ingots on the huge farm they owned.
Her young boy-toy never found it, he died because he was shot over a crooked card game a few years after they wed. That was my grandmother's daddy, and her mother was 42 when she was born!
Last night my husband went to visit his dad 84/some dementia. My husband asks do you mind? I said no, I’m fine waiting. You should take this chance to visit if it’s a good time.
He came out three minutes later. I said that was quick. He said yeah, he put in his order for pizza and that was about it. 😂
Son wants father-son time. He asked him to bring him a pizza!!

I used to work with a woman who shared her Facebook with her husband and it was under her husband's name and every time they commented on a post and it was her commenting she would write 'Dot says:' so everyone knew it was Dot.

If somebody is older I think it's fine and cute to share. My parent's don't because my dad never looks at it but occasionally my mom will post something and note "Rob says..." when answering somebody's question. However, when younger couples have shared accounts I always see it as a red flag of either a codependent or possibly abusive relationship.
@@andrewthezeppo It is good that you can readily ID co-d and/or abusive rel. Just got out of a 5.5 year one and I did not see that until I was out, and I am def old enough to know better. I'm in therapy, of course, plenty of it. Has helped enormously, esp group therapy.

Reading the comment about ripped jeans reminded me of an incident one of my older cousin once told.
When ripped jeans was new viral trend he went wearing one with his family on vacation to his village. His grandma took one look at him , tutted, and clucked calling him poor and pitiful child and gave him her small allowance money to buy some proper pants to wear and proceeded to scold his parents for neglecting their child...
I'm old and I give zero f*cks anytime any place anywhere and I love it lol😂

I was caring for an elderly lady when digital radio was becoming a big thing in the UK. She had bought an old style 70s transistor radio from a charity shop and was convinced it was a digital one because Classic FM's jingle included "on digital" and she could listen to Classic FM. Didn't like to tell her there was a big clue in the station's name and she was listening to in on FM radio. PS, I'm a baby boomer but you can't fool me like that.
@@laceandbits Awe 😅 My lovely grandma is 82 and she just got her first smartphone last year. My sister and I teach her something new about it daily. She never used a computer, always has my mom or me help her using them.
One of my friends' mum befriended me on facebook. She must be around 70 and she actually went for a short course where they teach (mainly) people of her generation to use Facebook. Whenever I like her comment or comment on her post she gets so excited she calls my friend to tell her about it. I barely use FB by now but I will always like her posts as it just makes her day. How cute is she?!
My parents started using emoji’s about two years ago (74 and 70 respectively). My dad is color blind, and asked people what they wanted on the salad mom was making to go with the bbq…..That is NOT a cucumber DAD! Omg. We had to have “the emoji talk”. ….

2:30. The ragged jeans. My friend went to visit his grandma wearing designer and very expensive ripped jeans. He slept late the next morning and when he came down for breakfast his grandma presented him with the jeans saying, “I repaired your torn pants for you dear”. Love it!

I'm visually impaired and some friends started texting and emailing me all in caps because the letters were bigger, so they thought it'd be easier to read.
Actually, it made it a lot harder to read because all the letters were THE SAME HEIGHT, so I had to work it out letter by letter rather than read it word by word.
Thank you! That is so true. Also, it's not like browsers don't come with the ability to enlarge text these days.

My grandma is over 80 years old and is usually super sweet. She's the kind of grandma that gives the kids little cookies and money and has her own vegetable garden. We used to have this running joke in the family where whenever someone would talk about or mention their friends, someone would go "you have friends?!" and it was funny the first time until it just got old. The Christmas before COVID happened, we were having a little gathering at her house and just having a good time until one of us started talking about our friends and my grandma, with the most sheepish grin, said "you have friends?!" and it was the funniest, most savage shit I've ever heard come out of my grandma. It was hard to believe that someone so incredibly sweet and inoffensive would make that joke and we all sat for a split second in shock before laughter errupted. I fucking love my grandma.

Years ago, I raised doves and had a bonded pair who were both males. I had to make a separate aviary for them because two of the other doves pecked them. The other dozen or so didn't seem to care.
They built a nest and took turns sitting on a large turd. It was sad, knowing that they wanted a baby, so I put a chicken egg in it and they were delighted! They took such good care of that egg, turning it every day. It hatched @ 30 days later, and they loved that baby chick!
Doves feed their young by regurgitating down their throats (called pigeon's milk). The little chick went along with it for awhile, but soon let her daddies know she'd had enough!
When she got bigger than them, I moved her into the chicken pen, but I think she missed her parents. It's one of the sweetest things I've ever witnessed, but I've gotten hate from some "christian" family and friends who accused me of lying. Well, I have pics and video that say otherwise!

My grandma died roughly 15 months ago. This was def her brand of humor. Ugh. That woman was so sharp. My mom approached her one day and said to her “hey mom look at how much weight I have lost”. Without missing a beat my gramma said “turn around you’ll find it”. When my mom told me this I think she expected me to feel to feel bad for her but I busted out laughing, hung up, and called my gramma who was sitting right next to her. We laughed. And laughed. My mom was so mad.
The last one reminded me of the numerous Amazon reviews where people say - "I bought this for my son so I haven't seen it", "I bought this 3 months ago but haven't used it yet" and other such pointless comments.

Both my grandmas were sassy. The one who had two pos ex husbands and ten children (7 boys, 3 girls) cussed like a sailor but if you used Jesus or God's name in vain, she'd smack your mouth. She lived to 89. The other was married to papa until his death at 97, after 68 years of marriage. They raised two daughters. She lived to nearly 107. She was full of love, patience, and GENTLE sass. Charlotte , my grandma joined Facebook 2 years ago at the ripe age of 84. She has never owned a TV, ect because of her religion. Its been the BEST 2 years of my life.
I finally managed to get my 73 year-old mom to start using a touch-screen tablet when the pandemic started b/c she was so bored during the lockdown. Now when she gets home, she's on it almost all evening watching youtube videos. She went from making fun of "youngsters always on their phones/computers", to being one of those people! LOL. It's been great at keeping her occupied. LOVE IT!

With the caps lock thing. My husband knows someone at work who types in all caps. He works IT. The person in question accidentally hit caps lock once, and sent the email after. My Dad wrote and typed in all caps. His fingers were huge and only used his middle fingers to type. He also had arthritis in his fingers. All caps was just easier. 🤷🏼♀️

Me too. I also found this site after a bad break-up of a 5.5 year relationship AND where I am dealing with many medical problems. With Covid and everything I can't just go out and find someone else either. My dad use to say “I’ve reached of pat ability” which means people come up and pat you on the shoulder. Perfect strangers. Also you can misbehave. I've tried to do my bit as you asked for no less than 4 times, 3 of those within 5 minutes of RUclips notifying me of the reply and once more just now.
So I place the responsibility for that ad comment squarely back on RUclips that it remains still.
If you report the ad comment it dissappear at that moment, but if you refresh the page it reappears.
Even on comment threads with the full 500 replies those ad comments remains and I'm sure some of the people involved have also reported them.
I share your frustration and I've done my part both on this and other comment threads but the wall of text bemoaning other not doing their part isn't the way to do it as many probably have done what you requested already but the international company in control isn't doing their part.

We all can misunderstand and tilt at a particular windmill, so we're good.
These bots are so prevalent now it could be that RUclips's department dealing with these have flooded over and can't handle the deluge.
Because it's not hard making new accounts and RUclips has to act swiftly and as correct as they can according to their guidelines so they don't remove an actual person's account.
I wish that RUclips can make their automatic system able to pick up on those ads and deal with them, giving the channel strikes for at least some of the ad comments and removing it after 3 strikes.
Then the channel posting the ad comments are removed along with all the comments.

Horrible week-was crying to a friend I can't function with some of the stuff going on, like all my medical issues, surgery Monday, all kinds of visits, with me forgetting things a lot. I live in a weird situation in some respects but I had to jump into this place after horrible break-up of 5.5 yr rel, for folks with mental and/or physical disab but can take care of yourself. Beaut ranch house in great area near the water, perfectly set up if I again need the walker, or a wheelchair, etc. I have physical disab, two roomies have mental issues. One roomie just had Covid and the other one refuses to acknowledge she has it, calling it a "cold", won't go for a test...walking around with no mask, so I hide in my room all day, us other 2 calling the ppl at the agency all day but they can't force her to do anything. She has to get tested before chemo Tues but anything can happen before then . I am freaking because besides the fact that getting covid would be a horrid thing, it takes months to get specialist appts these days and I have a bunch booked next week. The surgery HAS to get done asap-lesion in spine could be infection, cancer who knows? Then all kinds of doc appts...I DID get the Pfizer booster-full strength vs Moderna half-strength-so I SB fairly OK and so far, despite my many weeks in a hosp or nursing home/rehab facility over the past year, never got sick. I also rushed to get the shot in Feb, as soon as I could, However, I admittedly am NOT myself. Can you imagine-all this shit going on and I am pissed off at porn stuff! OK, ex DOES like his porn but i THOUGHT I was OK with it-apparently not lol. Oh well, he will get his, esp with covid fooling around is a very bad idea, vaxxed or not.
