My wife has aphasia following a stroke when she was 28. She says the funniest things but rather than get embarrassed she just laughs at herself. She says she can see the proper word in her head but she can’t get is out of her mouth. I met her when she was volunteering answering the phone at the charity I work for which she still does, her bravery is one of the many reasons I love her.

A good friend of mine had a stroke about 5 years ago and has aphasia. He deals with it using humor as well. Sometimes we laugh so hard, we cry. I often think how much easier it would be for him to be bitter but he's such an open and kind man. He and his wife have lost many "friends" and even family support because they "can't deal" with the aphasia. Makes me quite angry really.
Your wife sounds amazing Mark and you sound like a wonderful supportive partner. May you both be blessed with a lifetime of happiness

@@a697ag Dang… losing friends over it sounds rough. I don’t do well socially but I think I’d just agree that we can be friends if I’m allowed to laugh at the mistakes (not to scorn, just the initial impulse response) and if he can be patient with my struggle to string two sensible words together with no tangible excuse like he has. I mean, I may have reasons but it’s one thing to say “stroked-induced aphasia” or similar, and another to say “because I probably should have been diagnosed with something 25 years ago.” Everyone’s dealing with something, right?
I just can’t imagine giving someone the indication that I can’t deal with their speech impediment so being friends is no bueno. That’s so shallow.

Hilarious! I myself am very guilty of bumbling my words. I worked at a Steak and Egg when I was 18 and my manager was Dwight Yokams uncle Bob. I was chewing gum while waiting on a table. They ordered 2 Jumbo Juices (oj) and a few other things. When I repeated the order back to them it came out as " So, we have two hathbrowns smuggerd and cubbered and two Dumbo Douches" lol. At least they were college kids from UC and were a lil tipsy from their evening out in Clifton, so they laughed their heads off and made me feel much better about my mistake. Needless to say, I learned my lesson about chewing gum at work. Then a few years later, I was at a long-term job, and it was a VERY busy Saturday night bar rush. Two young homosexual men came to the counter and ordered. When they finished placing the order, they asked that i make sure that the order was correct because the last time they ordered it had been seriously botched. I wanted to say "Well, if it isn't correct, I will personally put my foot in their ass." but not wanting to offend them by cursing, it came out as " I WILL PERSONALLY PUT SOMETHING IN THEIR BUTT." :/ OMG, I felt like an ass. I know I turned so many shades of red, I could feel the heat in my face. But they looked at each other and back at me and cracked up. Thank God cause I could've swore that they would be offended with that for sure! SWo much for trying NOT to offend. I swear sometimes I should just keep my mouth shut. I promise there are so many other examples of botched speech in my life.

My dad is French and my mom is American so we have a TON of family jokes that revolve around some kind of language mixup… I think one of my favorites is “lucky warm”. My dad was trying to say “lukewarm”. To this day we refer to it as “lucky warm” in my family.

I was getting my dad a piece of cake and he came through the kitchen and said "I love you too" and it straight up broke my brain because I hadn't said anything (food is my family's love language) so I had no idea on what to say so my brain spouted out "No problem" it took me a couple seconds to realize what i had said made no sense and I just stood there for a second trying to wrap my head around it

A family friend went through police school. In the final exam, he was supposed to catch a burglar. Only he got confused as soon as he saw the culprit. Instead of saying "Stop! Police!" he yelled at the top of his lungs: Stoice! Policops!"
It worked. The pretend burglar had to laugh so hard he basically collapsed and could be apprehended without further issues.

I understand this completely. I taught grammar and composition in the 1980's and have watched spelling, grammar, and comprehension deteriorate as short cut social media has risen. I feel no remorse about laughing my ass off (and I can spell it) at these knuckleheads; in fact, I'll watch again so I can ridicule them again.

So glad to see you Charlotte! You look wonderful and I hope you're feeling better. I've been struggling with my mental health also, but better days are coming! Thank you for being so supportive and positive. You're a good role model for our young women and someone that us 30- something year Olds can relate to! Lol oh, BTW the one you wanted explained- lots of times when you try to type "how" it wants to turn into "Joe " and visa versa lol

I knew a Russian priest who spoke barely passable English. Once at the end of a service he wanted to say "Peace be with You" to the congregation -- instead it came out "Piss on you all" I have never forgotten that - I was a young Russian Orthodox altar boy.

Right?!?! I keep trying to get her to put that as a disclaimer before her “Hey everybody!” Something like, “Warning! Please do not eat or drink while watching. Neither Miss Charlotte, the editors, producers, or RUclips is responsible for choking, ruined electronics, or frightened pets as a result of watching this video.”

In a few latin originated languages, excited means the same/similar as/to s*xually aroused. So the question makes sense, as weird as it sounds, haha!

I told my husband to "fluff the windows" while looking at the window and meaning "fluff the pillows". It was the first time I ever experienced fibro-fog. Then I spent 5 minutes fumbling to describe the "book" my coworker was holding...we worked in a library and the more stress I'm under, the worse it actually gets. I hate what it's done to my memory...because I was the living memory in our family. Now no one trusts my mind and it hurts.
