Y'all wanna say "Oh dude if you don't like it then quit" when we can't even get the bosses of the companies to understand what it's like on a day to day basis working your ass off. They both have their own skill sets and positions and probably wouldn’t understand each other’s professions, the problem is the CEO should sympathize. • @duncreg
      @duncreg 2 года назад

      What lies? You go into the customer and you act friendly. At Bed Bath and Beyond there was a never say no policy. You never said no to the customer, even if the answer was no. If you didn't have something in stock, you called other stores to find it. If you couldn't find it that way you DIRECTED A CUSTOMER TO A COMPETITOR. Never say no. Also "pass the buck". You don't know the answer, you pass the question up the chain of command. I was a new nobody at corporate HQ and I was able to go into a VP's office and ask him a question I had about a freight bill. When he didn't have the answer, he pulled a guy directly beneath him off a major project to research the bill and get me the answer ASAP. That's how the company (used to) work.
      And that thing about customers? Get this! EVERY employee starts working in the stores. I got a job with corporate, but I had to report first to a store. You worked in the store first to learn how the business works and not forget that every dollar we make comes from the stores - and the customers. We had a real estate lawyer folding towels, etc. You learn all of the core principles like never say no, pass the buck, etc. Then after a few weeks when we went to corporate for the first time to start our actual jobs we got a talk about using what we learned. We were told that, say, for me in logistics, treat the stores as your customers. If you were in IT, the end users were your customers, etc. It was awesome! The BBB of 20 years ago when the founders' influence was still around was a very wise and amazing place which they lost eventually and these ideas went by the wayside.
      So no that guy isn't being asked to "lie". He's asked to treat the customers as the most important thing to the company. If half the customers want the wine before 11, never say no. Talk to corporate about the problem. Corporate should treat him like the customer too. And the issue should be passed up the line until it's solved.
      You don't talk smack about the customers, curse your head off, say it is what it is, screw customer service I just want to empty the truck and clock out, you don't get into fist fights, etc. I wouldn't hire this guy to fold towels at BB&B.
      I quit that job at BB&B after 6 months in 2005 over an issue with a boss who lied to me about the nature of the job, but I've never forgotten the core principles I learned and apply them wherever I go to this day. If I were that driver I'd never behave like he is because of what I learned at BB&B.

He was worried more about the brand image than getting to the bottom of what is really going on. I have been a F & B director for enough years to know these guys driving for the beer, wine and spirits companies work their asses off and Rene brought up some valid points. As the person who runs the wine program and the bar as well know that I need to be present when the trucks show up. They generally show up at the same time each week or bi weekly. They unload the product, you check it all off and make sure your rep didn't make a mistake and send you the wrong vintage with your wines etc, sign the invoice and let the driver move on down the line. Most often companies tell you they have performance based bonuses but set the requirements to reach bonus so absurdly that the only way you can meet the goals is to be unethical and cut corners as much as possible which hurts the customer experience. Most CEOs are completely disconnected with the low level employees that they are shocked that they don't like their job. It's easy to be happy going to work when you're making over $1 Million/year. I would get to work at 10 am, check in with the orders from the day before that came in after I left on my route, grabbed all the stuff, put it in the van, and then sat down to look at where the stuff was going. Plan out a route that would be one continuous circle so I wasn't going back and forth, and everything got delivered so I could get back to the store at 5pm, where the morning people left, and I took over the store until closing. On days where I had 16+ stops, if the warehouse guy took more than 5-10 minutes to come get his stuff, I just bounced and went back the next day. They, of course, yelled and complained to the store, but I just said that they took too long and told my boss how long I waited hitting the buzzer. I had a route doing rush delivery. I had to drive 100 miles every day to a warehouse and pick up orders for their stores in my local area. The job was "simple," show up, get product, deliver it. So that's what I did the few first days, except half the time people would complain they didn't get their last minute orders, so I started calling every store on the route asking if they had anything that came in last minute. Oh they loved that, I got praised all the time about it. My boss however always complained I was taking too long. I got tired of their shit and finally left. A few weeks later one of the people who worked in management (who I was friends with at the time) told me they lost the route and made it sound like my fault. Well I wasn't working there the last two weeks, maybe it wasn't my fault after all. There's always a disconnect between people who are in the field and people who work the office. Usually it's between their ears.

    It would be incumbent for the President to understand why maybe that employee isn't happy. I've seen it a lot where a company has all these things that it wants to be and how it praises itself for it treats its employees, but then you get there with a bad middle or local manager and the big bosses become big wimps when it comes time to fire the actual people causing the problem, then it persists. This happens when the executive officers are disconnected and not willing to pay attention.

    This boss acts on camera like he cares about his employees when honestly he shouldn't be so surprised, he knows what goes in the company. He just pretends to be shocked that he doesn't know because its on camera. "Come on" that employee is been really honest, he has the right to be dissapointed with the company.

    Looking at it from the truck drivers pov, he has a tight schedule to keep and if he misses a delivery or is late for some reason he's the one who gets written up for it not the customer. He's the one sitting in a truck all day and dealing with traffic and many times not so courteous drivers, construction backups, accidents ect and expected to be on time no regardless of any of that yes it is going to be stressful and honestly I feel that's part of the reason truck drivers especially OTR (there's many other reasons for that, but this certainly doesn't help) have such a high turn over.
    From the customers point of view they are paying for thousands of dollars of product at a time and want to make sure everything is right, at least in my business I do, especially when those orders often times contain orders of 40 to 50k worth of product I want to see there is nothing missing and the nothing damaged before I take delivery of it. However the truck driver here does make a point that lazy store workers can really make your day very difficult and honestly that to me is inexcusable. However keep in mind when you are the truck driver you are the face of the company you work for, the customer will likely never meet any of the office staff or the people who push paper and believe me dealing with customers all day is very demanding and makes it even harder when the customer is Karen and wants her money back for an item she bought 3 months ago... The store owners are also stressed but it is your duty to be as patient and understanding as possible with the customer you are making a delivery to, and be the person you would want to represent your business.

    I feel the “drivers” pain! I am a driver, and have to deal with the same level of ignorance and impatience from my own co workers! They have un-realistic ideas, workloads, and expectations for us and then want to get downright nasty with you if don’t get something done, or worse question anything they have to say! And all of that is usually following dealing with the customers being assholes to you, because they know that have you by the “short and curlies” with that “the customer is always right” bullshit, and won’t ever stick up for you, even when they know, admit they know that the customer was wrong!
    When you have to deal with all that, over the years you get jaded, frustrated, and burned the fuck out!
    And by the way, the majority of drivers cuss as bad or worse than sailors!!! With the exception of cussing in front of to directly to customers, get over that shit!!!
