Story bosses only, this does not include Rodin or any of the optional bosses (Rosa, Jeanne, and Bayonetta). Anyone who thinks Bayonetta 1 is harder should try playing Jeanne without Accessories..
The Moth Within activation window is incredibly strict in this game, Jeanne's actual dodges have very brief invincibility frames, and a lot of attacks in this game have very deceptive timing on the actual hit or are simply don't allow you to use Moth Within. The odd camera angles in certain fights also make it a lot more difficult to judge exactly when you get hit. (Insidious..)
Aesir and Balder were definitely the 2 hardest bosses, but anything with grabs or weird hitboxes can cause issues for Jeanne. It's usually possible to avoid the damage but you actually need to get Moth Within and keep a combo going to get the Platinum Combo Medals. This means that you actually have to slowplay some fights and put yourself in more danger, you could kill them with a single Umbran Climax but you wouldn't get nearly enough combo points.
This game has some amazing boss fights, I just wish there was a few more of them or at least more variety.. It feels like half the boss fights in the game are against Aesir or Masked Lumen/Balder.
Oh and you really can't even attack Aesir safely if he stacks projectiles. If he's doing that just keep dodging and strafing to one side until you get an actual opening.
There's a weird Moth Within glitch with Aesir and Worship's weird orb projectile. You can randomly take damage and not get Witch Time after the animation. Some enemies attacks can also cancel out Dodge Offset and Charged Attacks when you activate Moth Within. This not only waste time but can break your combo and is pretty disorienting. This happens a lot in the fight against Gomorrah and the giant spider.
If you aren't sure you can get Moth Within it's best to just get out of the way completely. You can always wait for an attack that's easier to read and continue dodge offsetting. You don't always need to be in Witch Time to get the required Combo Points with Jeanne, Bayonetta is pretty much forced to fight in Witch Time and/or use Gaze of Despair.
