Hey Joel, very helpful. I'm curious if the app will pick up both sides of a conversation that is recorded via Squadcast, Skype, Zoom, etc.? Do you know?
Otter does have a mobile app that allows you to record directly from it but I don't think you can record the other speaker in a phone conversation natively. One workaround is to turn the phone on speaker and record the conversation from another phone but I know that's pretty impractical. They do say they'll have it in a future release though.
Hi Joel, it transcribes what I say (my voice) but if I want to transcribe a voice that's playing on RUclips, it does not type... it's not picking it up. I'm using a laptop.
Hey Reysie, Unfortunately it only records external audio (audio it can hear from your laptop's mic) and doesn't record internal audio. BUT.. there's 2 ways you can get around that. First is to play the audio loudly on speakers so your mic can pick it up. The recording quality won't be great, but it'll pick up the gist of it. The 2nd way is to download the audio from the youtube video then upload the audio to otter (it gives you an option to upload from a file) and it'll transcribe it with much better accuracy.
It'd depend on how loud you could make it but I don't think it'd do as good of a job if you could download the mtg and upload it directly to otter or just have a laptop at the meeting and record the meeting with Otter directly from your laptop. Another way you could do it is recording the meeting from a phone and upload the file to Otter.
Hey Joel, does it work for long fules 40-50 minutes. I just downloaded a 40 min file and converted to text. But I can't check it with playing audio. The play button is not working. I use a mobile app
Yes, it works on any length of file. I've recorded files up to 4-5 hours and haven't had a problem, though I like to split them up into 1-2 hour segments just so they're easier to navigate. You may try playing it back on a computer and seeing if that works.
@@JoelWidmer thanks alot for your reply. I did it on computer and it played audio flawlessly. Only wasn't working on mobile. Yesterday I did a 40 min file, it didn't play on mobile, had to do on a computer. Today did a 70 min file on computer, but later when I tried to play on mobile, the audio worked, so I'm confused. I wonder is it because I emailed otter customer support?
Yes, you can upload a video and it'll transcribe it, but you can't view the video while playing the transcription. It just turns it into text. If you want to be able to view the video while the transcript is playing, check out Temi.com
Very helpful video! One thing I haven’t seen anyone talk about is how you select the source through which otter is recording. Does it just simply record whatever internal mic or microphone setting you have primarily set up for your computer? I noticed that you are speaking through a mic (which means you have an audio interface) and it is transcribing it so perhaps it just picks up whatever the input of the computer is at that time. Clarity there would be super helpful!
Hey Stephen, The default source is exactly what you said, whatever your default mic is set to. It lets you choose your mic input and can record through anything. The mic I'm using is just a USB mic plugged into my computer. If you get the Otter Business plan, it will allow you to integrate it with Zoom and live record both sides of a convo on a Zoom call. Otherwise, it doesn't allow you to record system audio or audio coming through your computers speakers. One way to get around that is to play the audio through your speakers and turn up your volume enough to capture the audio and Otter actually does a pretty good job transcribing both what's being said and the audio coming through your speakers. The volume is pretty low when you play it back but it transcribes decently well.
Thank you for this incredible explanation of Otter's features.
Glad it was helpful!
Great overview Joel - thx a bunch!
Awesome app, thanks for sharing information.
That was very helpful thanks Joel
Glad to hear it!
Thank You so much, very helpful.

Yep! It sure will. I transcribe audio files all the time I record from Zoom and Skype. It'll pick up every single voice on a recording.
Hello Carey, we have native integration with Zoom, and all your Zoom cloud recordings can automatically be synced and transcribed in Otter.ai
Hi, Joel thanks for a great video 🙂 How do I change languages? /Annette
Thanks.
Can you identify and label a person while the recording is ongoing so the app then automatically labels them from that point on?
Great content, thanks!
how to record a conversation from mobile phone with both caller and receiver from the other side of the phone?

@@JoelWidmer I see. Very helpful tips which I will try to do. Thanks a lot, Joel !
Joe great app I have to minute meetings if I record the meeting on a dictaphone and play the recording back would Otter transcribe the recording?

Hey Joel
Thanks for the tips I'll try and upload the file into otter and hopefully it should transcribe 👌
