I am a newspaper reporter, and the one thing that takes up a majority of my time is transcribing quotes from people I interview. Otter has literally cut that time in half and I am now able to get done earlier than usually and I get to spend more time with my kids. A literal godsend

As a fellow reporter, how do you use this? If you are interviewing in person, do you simply start the app on your phone in lieu of another recording device? Or is it running in the back round of a zoom call, for example?

Have you used happyscribe ? It has some advantages and disadvantages compared to otter. I rank both are the best auto transcribtion now excluding rev (which more accurate by human).

This looks like a transcription tool to me, which Google Meet, Zoom, WebEx, already have built in. Does this software actually take meaningful notes, or just transcribe? Do they offer templates to translate the notes into a follow up document with action items, etc?

Is it possible to merge 2/3 recording together in a single script? Because I may need to record in separate days & finally merge all in a single script. If not this, is there any other site or apps in play store?

Well, like any other technology, it depends on how otter is used as whether it is an enhancement or a crutch. These are eminently celebrated facts: (1) You cannot concentrate on lecture, or prevent lecture from merely becoming a broadcast, if your hand is not writing a single word on paper during the lecture, (2) The pages of a book you are reading for comprehension and learning (and not for entertainment), i. e. non-fiction book, become inert words on paper if you do not write your own reaction to the text that affected you. So could otter be useful? Yes, but you cannot stop taking notes by hand on paper because you have otter. Then otter becomes a crutch, and almost always at some point all crutches break, thus breaking your whole learning system.

Am I wrong, or does this defeat the purpose? It’s not too hard to find a program that can take what you’re saying and put it on the screen in a way that you can use it, such as email, text messages, etc.
I think the point is that you’re supposed to record, and then run your recording through, and have it spit out a transcription of what you said.
According to the app, it is supposed to start recognizing people you talk to or interview, so that it puts a name in front of the people you’re interviewing, Or basically it just knows win the voice change and if it’s heard it before I think it puts the name of the speaker before it. You can manually update it until it does recognize.
Please let me know if I’m wrong and what I need to do because I didn’t spend much time with it last time. But I could really use something like that now, in the way that I have said earlier.
And thank you for the video too. I did learn some stuff.

@@georgebowen3925 Are you questioning something I said in the comment, or are you seriously asking lol. I haven’t used it in a while, and I’m not sure when I left this comment. According to the description when you download the app, it says that the app learns different speakers voices and doesn’t take long to associate those voices to the name you give them.
What I love about it is that I can go to my recordings, and record a memo, run it through the app, and the app will spit out what you said. It’s a good way of transcribing if you don’t wanna do it through Siri all the time.
I think you can only do it three times a month though (as far as uploading a memo and have it print out a text file). But when I had to use it that way and record a memo, it did an excellent job at outputting a text file, with periods and new sentences and everything like that automatically picked up in the transcription.
I’m sorry I’m not much of a help on that, but it is a very good app to use in the proper setting, and they are very generous with the free 600 minutes a month if you ask me. It’s an app that has a lot of features that can be used that I haven’t dug into, but it’s a pretty powerful app.

      What are the actual steps?

Am I wrong, or does this defeat the purpose? It’s not too hard to find a program that can take what you’re saying and put it on the screen in a way that you can use it, such as email, text messages, etc.
This is the second time I’ve downloaded it, but I think the point is that you’re supposed to record, and then run your recording through, And have other spit out a transcription of what you said. According to the app, it is supposed to start voice recognizing people you talk to. So that it put a name in front of the transcription that gives you.and it was built out a transcription of what you said and what the person you were talking to said and such.
Although not great, Apple has improved their voice dictation. So for me the big sale was to be able to record something, whether it be your journal, or a meeting, and then have it give you a transcription of everything said.
I’m sorry if I don’t understand what you’re saying here. I appreciate the video. Maybe I’m not getting it.
According to the app description in the App Store, it says that it begins to learn voice recognition for people that you talk to regularly. That way when it spits out a transcription, it already has the names of the people who were talking.

In a group meeting, how do you associate the speaker's name with their comments?

  • @lorae7

I’ve tried this many times and seems like it doesn’t transcribe accurately- I will go back and read what it transcribed and it prints words that it “thinks” I say instead of what I actually said. I’m a broadcaster - so I speak well. I want to love this but it’s unreliable. Maybe someone has a tip

You only tangentially discussed a possible deal-killer. Most of my meetings are via Skype for Business. It has a record feature that is similar (I’m guessing) to Zoom Cloud. So maybe users of Unified Communication software will have to record/transcribe in two steps. It would be useful to know if this product can record from a sound card or only via in the room microphone or sound file. Also you briefly discussed privacy but didn’t mention if the software announces audibly that recording has begun and ended. I think this is very important. Lastly, chuckled to see that the sound cloud “actually” picked up one of your favorite words :-)

    • @toolfinderhq
      @toolfinderhq  5 лет назад

Aha, yes, saw that it picked up actually - and it would probably with "obvious" and "errr' aha. Agree that if it had a connection with Skype. but Microsoft are probably cautious at the connections they make.
      Francesco :-)

    • @Otterai

For Skype for Business (or any other Unified Communication software), you can simply open otter.ai in a separate browser window, turn up the volume on speaker (i.e. no headphones), click Record in Otter and it will transcribe live for you. If you can configure the web browser to recognize your sound card as an audio input source (e.g. with the help of utility software like Soundflower for Mac), then yes otter.ai can record and transcribe from it. Currently, Otter does not automatically announce that recording has begun and ended (this is a potential enhancement in the future).

What's this 'hello everyone'? Why do many RUclipsrs imagine they are talking to a crowd, when its usually one person in front of their computer. Let's just say 'hello'. Its far more personal and warm.
