Today Shifu Yan Xin (34th Generation Shaolin Disciple) shares with us what is the difference between Kung Fu horse (Mabu, 马步) stance and Qi Gong Horse Stance (know as Zhan Zhaung). Kung Fu stance focuses on the external strengthening of the muscles and tendons, Qi Gong Zhan Zhuang focuses the intention to work on strengthening of the internal Qi.

Very well explained. I find it interesting, however, how the horse stance in Wing Chun is like a middle ground between these two stances.

Thank you Shifu for pointing out the differences between KungFu Mabu and QiGong Zhan Zhuang.😊
I think that if we understand the internal part of zhan zhuang (the most important part) then our mabu practice will be higher level. And also the Sandà practice, thai, boxe etc. 'Cause there are a lot internal connections and feeling that can make you understand how to use your body and his real power. Muscles armony, joints armony, Qi, coordination, relaxing etc. Muscles change their structure if we practice a lot ma bu and zhan zhuang. Different positions but the internal part its very similar, or maybe the same. Great video!!

Thanks for the explanation. Just a brief commentary: I have seen people practicing Zhan Zhuang with an intermediate posture of mabu, between the lower kung fu stance and the Qi gong stance.

While doing Qigong movements that require doing the horse stance, do we do it as the ma boo? ( example : the second movement of the Ba Duan Jin / Drawing Bow) or do we not sit that much?
