The key is to make sure the device is broadasting an IR signal if that is what you need. It can't be seen with naked eye but if you use your telephone and view the front, with it, you can confirm remote is broadcasting an IR signal! Some dual purposes remotes need to have battery compartment opened and the base above it pulled out and flipped and pushed back in, in order to issue IR signal. Very important first step!

Yes, if you have your original remote, you can teach the dish remote the things you need. Not sure why nothing works. Sharp is a mainstream brand.. It should definitely work with Sharp.

@@codussigma Just because the Battery low light hasn't come on doesn't mean the batteries are fresh enough to program. It's still worth a try if you have some new ones laying around. Yes I was going to suggest that after I asked about the batteries! Sorry I didn't see your comment yesterday or I would have answered sooner. Glad you got it going again.. 😀
It should program in the same way as the TV or DVD, I think it goes on the aux device button.... if that doesn't work, I believe the remote is teachable.. if you have the original remote you can teach the commands for the sound bar.
Usually you can change the channels for the secondary TV in the menu of the dish box. I think mine was set to 73. But if your TV is in the same location as the box, it's probably connected via HDMI cable to which ever input it's connected to. HDMI 1, 2... etc.
Programming the remote works for volume, mute and on/off. However, it does not work to change the programing from HDMI to TV mode. I have an external antenna for local channels which is the TV mode. Pressing the TV button on the side of the remote does not allow switching from HDMI to TV mode or programming. However, pressing the SAT button on the side of the remote does change from TV programing to HDMI programing. Why shouldn't work for TV programing?

I don't remember exactly. Are there 2 addresses? 1 for the IR main remote and then a 2nd one for the RF remote to the other room? Is the primary remote setup to receive from the RF remote? That could be what's wrong...
It could be the remote address. Make sure the remote address is set to the same as the receiver. Try this... ; www.mydish.com/support/products/remotes/how-to/program-to-receiver
It could also be that it is set for remote 2 . If it is a 21.1 , open the battery compartment and find a small toggle . Switch it from UHF to IR . Then the end cap can be pulled and flipped over. One side says 2 and the other says 1 Hope this helps. Thank you Take a Bath Productions for this helpful video.

Thanks I just needed new batteries to program it .works great
Excellent!... Yea batteries can cause trouble when they appear to be fine... :-)
Can you do this without a receiver?
HI, not sure what that means?
Hi I have a sharp tv and a 21.1 ir/uhf pro and I tried every single code on the list on dish website but nothing works. Is there any other way to get it work?
Yes, if you have your original remote, you can teach the dish remote the things you need. Not sure why nothing works. Sharp is a mainstream brand.. It should definitely work with Sharp.
@@JLPicard440 thanks for the response, I contacted customer support and they tried everything they can and said I got a defective remote, so they going to send me another one.
@@wangu4951 Yes that's a good possibility! Thanks for the update.. 😀

I have a Samsung HDMI Model UN324500MF and I have it connected to a DISH Hopper. I want to be able to use my DISH remote to change source from DISH to HD ANTENNA. We have hurricanes in South Florida and I want to be able to use the remote to go from CAble to Local TV. Also, we are being told our DISH will no longer cover Local TV. How can I program the remote to move from DISH JOEY to ANTENNA.
There's a input button on the remote... it won't switch inputs when you select the TV mode? It should..
Thank you so much!!! I needed this.
You are so welcome!
Excellent, thanks so much for your video. I insisted in trying different codes until I replaced the batteries as you said (duh, why I didn't listened in the first place? 🙄). Thank you sir.
Excellent! Glad you got it going..
Thanks Howard Stern 👍
No problem 👍
Hey thanks. Changing the batteries worked.

I’m trying to reprogram a 20.1 ir remote to control 2 TVs in one house and then reprogram the UHF to a new tv ina different location. ?? Can u send. A link how to do this.
The second remote right now is programmed to a tv I use to have next door but I need it to be reprogrammed to a new tv next door.
I think you might be able to put the 2nd TV on the Aux button on the remote. The uhf works on an address that's in the satellite receiver. I don't really have a link you can go to except Dish Network themselves has some info on programming their remotes..This link should get you started.. :

Excellent directions thank you so much!

Work great for me change batteries and walla!!! Got it working, Thanks
That's awesome! You're welcome..
Ok, i'm trying to program my 20.1 IR remote to my tv. i hold the tv button, the lights flash, and then stop. i put in the code, press pound, and nothing happens. is this because of batteries, or something else?
The batteries are the first thing I would check... is it working with other stuff? Make sure you're entering a valid code too...
@@JLPicard440 it works fine for the satellite, the "low battery" notification hasnt come on. and i got the list of codes off of dishes site and went down it. i followed the steps on the website, when i hold the tv button down, the lights all blink 3 or 4 times and then they all turn off, and where it says to input the code and press # and the tv light will blink, the tv light doesnt blink
@@codussigma Just because the Battery low light hasn't come on doesn't mean the batteries are fresh enough to program. It's still worth a try if you have some new ones laying around. There's only 3 choices of what could be wrong.. 1. You're doing something wrong when you program it. 2. The batteries are low 3. There's something wrong with the remote itself. There's no other choice!
I have a dish remote 21.1 IR/UHF Pro remote. It was programmed to turn off my Samsung TV and now it has stopped working and i have re-programmed by entering the remote code and it still will not work. I’ve tried your learned method on the remote without any success. Any suggestions?
Do i need a new remote? I’ve tried to call Dish and they were no help. They kept saying that my TV is not compatible with the remote. Which is ridiculous cuz it was working previously.
How can they say Samsung is not compatible...That's a major brand name... what a joke!.. I have a Samsung and it works great. Sorry for the troubles.. did you check the batteries to make sure they're pretty fresh? If you have a different TV, try it on that to see if it works ok. Do you have the original Samsung remote to make sure something didn't happen to the TV itself.. long shot, but you never know...
You’re the best
You are! Thank you... 🙂
Thanks, this video was very helpful!
Glad to hear it!
Dish Remote - has to be 6-7 inches - from TV itself (volume change) or Box ( to change channel). It stopped working from a "distance" (like say "the couch). Have to get up with remote right next to either TV or box. WHY? What happened? Was fine.. then overnight...lost distance (??
Oh wow.... did you try a fresh set of batteries?
yes yes even the 9.99 rechargable ones. Funny sometimes says "Battery Low" on the screen- even with new or charged batteries. I resorted to the TV (LG) remote for volume & mute (that works from 'couch distance'. But still have to walk right up to Dish receiver with Dish remote- to change channels
@@JLPicard440
SOLVED! It was the Remote. I was able to Program the New one they sent me- and all distance issues- healed. The old Remote (altho it lit up was Shot! thanks and shout out to See World Satellites in Indiana Pa.!!!

Yes I was going to suggest that after I asked about the batteries! Sorry I didn't see your comment yesterday or I would have answered sooner. Glad you got it going again.. 😀
Any tips for Sanyo sound bar?
It should program in the same way as the TV or DVD, I think it goes on the aux device button.... if that doesn't work, I believe the remote is teachable.. if you have the original remote you can teach the commands for the sound bar.
wonderful. Thanks a lot.

THANK YOU SO MUCH!! You were a great help!!!

What channel does the tv need to be set on to watch dish?
Usually you can change the channels for the secondary TV in the menu of the dish box. I think mine was set to 73. But if your TV is in the same location as the box, it's probably connected via HDMI cable to which ever input it's connected to. HDMI 1, 2... etc.
Well done!
Thank U!.. :-)
I love the 70s secret agent intro.
LOL.. I don't remember what I did.. 🙂
Thank you so much! That was so easy!

Thank you!! U totally helped me out.

HI. You must have a Hopper with the black dish remote 54.0. That's the only dish remote I know of with the buttons on the side. I do have a hopper video programming the remote to different devices. There's also a input button on the side of the remote. Did you try putting the remote in TV mode and then pushing the input button to see if it'll switch inputs from HDMI to Air/TV?

How to pair the 54.0 dish remote to Tv without a reciever?
I was looking through the book and I didn't see anything about programming codes. Only pairing to receiver.
Oh Snap my remote has learning! Solved my issues with a new element tv that wouldn't take codes and soundbar that would shut down and Id have to use a separate remote just to turn back on.
Excellent! Thanks for the feedback.. 🙂
Do anyone know a code for a Toshiba DVD with dish remute, I try the 1 is on the Page but it didnt work
Did you try this page?

My remote is a 21.0 is it any different than the 21.1
I'm pretty sure they're both about the same...
I have remote #2 on my second tv, everything works except for the Volume and Power Button. I’ve tried everything and can’t get them to work. When I try to program the tv and, hold and press tv button , i get the “ Attention - Mode Reminder” every time. CAN YOU PLEASE HELP ME
Hmmmm. maybe try turning off the satellite receiver, it doesn't need to be on for this. Also, try replacing the batteries if they're not that fresh..
I have the same problem did you find the solution
How do I get a code for a westinghouse 32"dtv
There should be a link in the description for the codes, if not it's easy to google codes for dish network remote.. That should bring up the list.
This is late but I changed the address to 2 but then it’s changing on both TVs... what am I doing wrong?
I don't remember exactly. Are there 2 addresses? 1 for the IR main remote and then a 2nd one for the RF remote to the other room? Is the primary remote setup to receive from the RF remote? That could be what's wrong...
I'm trying to do my remote and when I hold the tv button all the buttons glow but then they all blink 3 times and it shuts off, what should I do?
Possibly change the batteries? If they're not fresh, give it a try and see if it helps.
Thanks a lot, it is very helpful. The remote is programmed with TV, however it won't pair/work with dish receiver. Can you help?
It could be the remote address. Make sure the remote address is set to the same as the receiver. Try this... ;
www.mydish.com/support/products/remotes/how-to/program-to-receiver
It could also be that it is set for remote 2 . If it is a 21.1 , open the battery compartment and find a small toggle . Switch it from UHF to IR . Then the end cap can be pulled and flipped over. One side says 2 and the other says 1 Hope this helps. Thank you Take a Bath Productions for this helpful video.
