    I found this video now and it’s STILL relevant in 2024. That booklet just doesn’t explain well at all. Thank you so much! Finally got the remote working to turn off my tv. You’re a godsend! 🙌🏼

    Thank YOU, you're a Genius! Your explanation was easy, plain and simple. I hassled for nearly 2/hrs reading the manual in attempt to program just 1 out of 3 new controls without success. I tried calling Dish Network, but as usual, the waiting time was 56min. While I was on hold waiting to speak to a technical rep, I decided to check RUclips, and found your video. I immediately determined to try out what you explained on your video, and in less then 5 minutes I managed to program all 3 controls without a problem. My 84 year old husband thinks I supposed to know everything, (yeah... if I was still 26... LOL), but I'm already 66 and no longer have the patience nor the ability to keep up with the new technology, and YOU made it possible for us, thanks a Million!

    I spent maybe 45 mins typing in every code that I could find that matched my TV brand and none of them stuck. I'm so happy I found this video. Wish I looked for this sooner. I started to think I had a defective device. Thank you so much.

    5 years later and this video is still helping people. I got rid of Dish years ago and did not save the guide. Bought a used TV for computer monitor and it didn't have a remote. Glad I saved the Dish remote because now I have one....no buttons on the TV....who thought this was a good idea?

Thanks to your video I was able to get it done. One thing that was a BIG help was you saying that you might need to keep pressing the button for quite some time because I had to keep doing it for nearly 50 clicks before the TV finally went off. Thank you again!

    OMG I was so excited when my TV actually turned off! It took several minutes of tapping the up button b4 it did so I was starting to worry.
    Unfortunately programming the remote to my tv still didn't solve my prob 😤, which is.. I'm trying to find a way to change the brightness/contrast etc on my tv using a remote. The one that goes with the tv is gone and no other remote I've tried has let me change the picture settings. I even found 2 remotes that look identical to the one that went to the tv. They would power it on and off and change the input but wouldn't change the picture settings. So aggravating!
    Still.. That's not to say anything bad about your video.. It was on point. Apparently I've just gotta get an identical remote if I want to be able to change the brightness without having to get up and do it on the actual TV. Dammit!

    Thank you! You and I have the exact same remote but I suspect that this method will work for all DishNetwork remotes.
    I DID have to step through many times, I went slowly but was distracted when I finally hit it so I went up one too far. That meant that after I had pressed pound and the power button for TV, I got back into program mode, went down once and locked in the correct setting.
    The installer taught me to use the IR receiver on the top left side of the remote but your instructions are much simpler, thank you.

    ( Question at end of my comment! Please help if you can ) Bro thank you, I knew this remote was universal but didn't have a box and also didn't know how to program without one but when I called dish they of course told me there is no way to do so, ( even though I told her I knew that there was and that she was lying to me ) so i would need a box and service .... :L right.... "do you want to order a subscription?" ..... ya totally lady, cause I'm not trying to save money by using this remote instead of buying a new one or anything..... anyway I knew it was possible but couldn't for the life of me find ANYTHING about how to do it till this video so seriously thank you!! And i am going to try to spread it as much as possible just for that lady... :D
    QUESTION: And also edit: so your remotes in the video is the I believe like 21.0 remote or something like that and I have the 40.0 remote and I went about the method you gave and everything works until I go to push the power button so I hold the TV button and eventually all the lights will flash satellite TV DVD auxiliary then I let go and of course the TV button starts to flash upon pushing the power button however instead of doing what it showed in the video my remote the satellite button lights up and the TV button starts to flash again very quickly and then they both turn off and then it just seems to go back to regular remote function and doesn't do any programming. I'm sure there's a simple way to do it but I don't want to mess up anything too badly so if anybody knows the work around on the 40.0 remote that would be extremely helpful thank you.
    My other question was I got a used Philips smart tv from a buddy, and I need to know if its possible to program the 40.0 model remote to do more than just powering it and such like programing the colored buttons to open things like say Netflix or RUclips ETC.? If anyone has any knowledge, or anything you think might help me in the matter, please respond ASAP or msg me at shardshark47.dave@gmail.com (

      The 40.0 remotes have to be programmed using the on screen menu on a dish set top box. It can't be done without a set top box.

      @davidsharwark6238 2 года назад

      @@cordcutterlifestyleandtech damn I was super afraid you were going to say that. Well thank you for getting back to me and with haste nonetheless I appreciate it a lot. It's super awesome that Comcast remotes, pretty much all of them, are totally Universal to your TV with codes so it's weird that dish is so touchy about their remotes being used as universal remotes but I guess it makes scents from their perspective. Whatever lol. But thanks again.

    Hi I have been a subscriber for couple years now and I need.to say THANK YOU for making ething understandable ....even for me!!!! I just got a used phillips 50 in. 4k android tv from a friend that still had stickers on it. This is a great big deal at my house especially since we have never had such a big screen nor a smart tv ...lol . IT CAME ALONE .... no power cord.or remote . I did get a cord and I have now programmed the old cable.remote( I no longer have cable ) thanks to your help
    Problem is I can't find out how.to program TV now . . No prompts or menu screen comes up at all . All I can do is change channels.or input and I am not sure where I am supposed to be on that ??? . I live in rural area so only.internet is my mobile wifi box. Do I need to connect to that first ???? Is it the.problem.? Or is that even gonna work ??? Also need to mention that when I turn it on it says retail mode.....probably ly because he got me the tv from a hotel being demolished.....so no buttons either . Am I doomed on this new tv ???? Help!!! And.....THANKS AGAIN REGARDLESS !!!!! U ARE THE TV HERO !!!

    • @cordcutterlifestyleandtech
      @cordcutterlifestyleandtech  3 года назад

      👋 thanks for being a subscriber. There are a few things you need to do. First is to get the tv out of ' retail mode'. You can do this from the menu. If the cable remote doesn't allow you to access the menu try using the buttons on the tv. You can also call the manufacturer and order one. Next, to watch tv you'll have to either connect an antenna and run a channel scam or connect a streaming device like Roku or Fire tv.
