I worked on Radars for the Military and the FAA for almost 40 years. Thanks for this video. Being a Technician, I knew better than to attempt to try to open this remote without knowing a few critical things like where to begin the cracking open of the Remote. Mine opened like a charm thanks to you. The only change I would suggest is the addition of some compressed air to totally remove any possible moisture and the small particles that can get in to these pads and everywhere else. Thank you very much. I can't understand people clicking on the "Dislike" for this video but my guess is that it's probably some of the "Dish Service Technicians" or maybe even some of the "Sales Representatives" that aren't going to get to sell some Remotes because of this information.
Although my Mom's remote was a newer model, I found the premise was the same. Opened her drenched-in-Pepsi remote as you illustrated, cleaned with q-tip dipped in rubbing alcohol, threw away the batteries and let air dry overnight. Put it back together the next morning and it worked like a charm. No new parts necessary, just used new batteries. Can't thank you enough for posting this!
I had been having issues with my remote for some time now, and recently the buttons I most use weren't working! I opened up my remote and gave it a good cleaning and viola! I didn't have to add anything! It works even better than I remember! Thanks so much for sharing your video!
I wasn't actually replacing anything, but just trying to clean the inside of my remote, and your directions for just that were perfect. Now buttons that were not working are working perfectly again. Thank you for posting this video.
I took mine apart and cleaned it with 99 % that I bought for other purposes and damn! It's like new again! Thanks for the vid. I wanted to do it for some time but was afraid I'd snap it trying to open it.
Thanks for this video; you just saved me about 40 bucks as I was just going to order another remote. I didn't install the keypad repair kit; I just cracked it open and cleaned everything like you suggested. It's INSANE how dirty is was - and we keep a very tidy house! Anyhow, thanks again from Texas!
Great job. I have refused to purchase a replacement remote. Dish is the first company that just doesn't replace the broken not all buttons work remote. I will try this, thank you very much. 👍
Daughter spilled a drink on the remote. Couldn't figure out how to open it. This video did the trick and was able to open it up, dry it out, clean it up and now it works like a charm.
Thank you so much! I spilled coffee, right on the remote! Came upon your channel! I did everything you said, and I have my remote back, but cleaner. My concern, was opening the darn thing! Finally decided, to use some muscle! And it came apart! Thank you again!!
Great video, allowed me to take my 40.0 apart without destroying. On/off button quit working. The bottom of the silicon pad was covered with oil. It looks like it was there on purpose there was so much. Cleaned and now works like new.
THANK YOU!! You are a GREAT teacher, The buttons on my remote (186217)were sticking or just kinda working. Followed your instructions.... and WALAH!! works like new!!
Thanks so much! I have the exact remote & prefer it to the newer voice remote Dish sent me. Only the cancel button wasn't working but is now 100% after cleaning. Love learning how to do new things!
Thank you for posting the video. I knew what to do once inside, but for the life of me I couldn't figure out how to open the damn thing without breaking all the locking tabs. Again, thanks. Oh, cleaned the circuit board and it's operational! *8)
Thank you SO much! I was able to follow your instructions and clean everything. Ours just looked really oily inside, but now it's all clean and dry. And it's working!
I took mine to the local car wash and put the setting on extra soapy and then took it back home rinsed it off dried it out good and reassembled and it worked like a brand new one
Awesome. Just needed to get an idea of how to crack open the remote case. My remote is actually the 4.0 IR/UHF PRO 132577 and it opens the same way. Want to add that while prying open, it helps to apply some inward pressure with the prying tool to unlock/unseat the tabs. Thanks for the tutorial.
Fantasic Video and instructions like the tips along the way !! I have 6 that dont work, I ordered repair membrane and got it, will install this week. Today i installed the membrane and it was so simple following in these instructions. I orderded another set for my other remote
Thank you for this. I was able to open mine and clean the contacts without using a pad replacement kit. But I might just order one for the next time! You Tube was made for this type of video.
Great! Not sure how long it will last. Cleaning removes the buildup but does not block it from happening again and the black pills wear out over time. Cleaning alone never lasts as long as the original. Depends on the design, how much you use it and other things can effect it like temperature and humidity.
I have brand new batteries installed in the remote. When I press the SAT button the SAT, TV, and the AUX buttons flash off and on like 11 times. Is there a fix for this?
And I always thought that there was a tiny screw hidden somewere on the remote. All I had to do was pop it open with a flathead screw driver. Take it apart and clean it.
These are pretty tight compared to others. It probably just needs a little more umph. It's quite rare but some chemicals will bond plastic and once in a blue moon I see a remote that is partially glued together.... possibly someone was fixing their car while using the remote and got some propellant on it. Acetone fumes can stick plastic together.
I can't get the damned thing to pop open - even with these instructions. Now I have a remote with the plastic a little bit munched. Can't even get the first bit to pop open at the bottom. ARRRGGHH!

I did the same thing and mines working like new now!
I took mine apart and cleaned it with 99 % that I bought for other purposes and damn! It's like new again!
Thanks for the vid. I wanted to do it for some time but was afraid I'd snap it trying to open it.
Thanks man. I have three of these remotes, two dead and one dying. Now I have three working remotes. Thanks a bunch.
Great video. Just ordered two packages of new contacts.
Thanks for this video; you just saved me about 40 bucks as I was just going to order another remote. I didn't install the keypad repair kit; I just cracked it open and cleaned everything like you suggested. It's INSANE how dirty is was - and we keep a very tidy house! hellen sue That’s why I came here. Figuring out how to open these snap together things without breaking the case is the hardest part.
Great video, allowed me to take my 40.0 apart without destroying. On/off button quit working. The bottom of the silicon pad was covered with oil. It looks like it was there on purpose there was so much. Cleaned and now works like new.
The oil oozes from the rubber. A little microscopic drop every time you press the button. ButtonWorx membranes block the oil.
Thanks for the video, made my mother very happy her remote is working properly again!
THANK YOU!! You are a GREAT teacher, The buttons on my remote (186217)were sticking or just kinda working. Followed your instructions.... and WALAH!! works like new!!
I'll also cleaned without resorting to the repair kit which resolved everything. Great advice.
Thanks so much! I have the exact remote & prefer it to the newer voice remote Dish sent me. Only the cancel button wasn't working but is now 100% after cleaning. Love learning how to do new things!
Thank you this was very helpful. My remote would not work at all and after I took it apart and cleaned it with alcohol wipes, it works great!!
Thank you for posting the video. I knew what to do once inside, but for the life of me I couldn't figure out how to open the damn thing without breaking all the locking tabs. Again, thanks. Oh, cleaned the circuit board and it's operational! *8)
Thankyou very much I couldn't find out how to take it apart clean it and fix it. Now it works like new!
Thank you SO much! I was able to follow your instructions and clean everything. Ours just looked really oily inside, but now it's all clean and dry. And it's working!
Thanks for the video, it helped me get my remote apart without totally wrecking it. :) I needed to clean the inner battery contacts.
I took mine to the local car wash and put the setting on extra soapy and then took it back home rinsed it off dried it out good and reassembled and it worked like a brand new one

Thanks for this! Saved me $25 on a new one!
Thank You so much! I followed your video and my remote is working again. You are AWESOME!
Thank you. Mine works as good as new again.
Nice video, worked like a charm.

Thanks For the help. Got mine working . Minimal Issue. Good video.

Didn't see a repair kit for this remote on your website. Cleaning has helped but might be good to have repair kit handy
Sorry it took so long. You can find it here: p1repair.com/keypad-repair-kits/keypad-repair-kits-other/DISH_Network_DISH40.html
Thanks dude! i dont have that exact remote but it came apart just the same. Finally got my SAT button working properly again!
Thank you so much!!! Worked like a charm and remote is working again.
I've have a Dish model 182563 remote control. What keypad repair kit do I need and where can I get it?
That site only shows they have the kit for the Joey/Hopper remote. Is there any place else to buy them?
Thanks just cleaning remote has it working.

Is there a fix for this?
Can you make a video on fixing a Philips remote
Thank you very much! It worked great!
After cleaning, the remote responds much quicker as well.
And I always thought that there was a tiny screw hidden somewere on the remote. All I had to do was pop it open with a flathead screw driver. Take it apart and clean it.
How can I find my model number if the sticker is off my remote?Help please.
Excelent! At least I can fix my control thanks your video!
I did this but just cleaned all the contacts and circuit board because it was eating batteries. Seems to work fine now.
Thank you very helpful!
I tried every technique and the two halves would not separate. I unsnapped 1/3 of one side and the rest is like it’s glued together.

Thank you

His came apart WAY easier than mine as well.
Yeah mine was a bit tough too, i even had one of the clip things break off...
HOW DO I CANCEL THE MAN GIVING MOVIE INFO FROM MY REMOTE
