"I thought it was going to be Looking but everyone is a vampire" was absolutely hilarious, thank you. I think that priest punch is the most shocking and gory moment of the series (though it definitely does get bloody and gory in the rest of the season), but I promise it's not actually scary. High camp is a perfect description actually. It's a drama, but there are undeniably funny moments. It's something I never thought I'd see: a prestige vampire show. I can't wait see what you think of the rest!
it's a love story, but between two predators from now on, so it will be filled with toxicity and blood of course! but nonetheless a love story, even monsters deserve a romance lol
This is by far one of the best first episodes of any show ever! I am so glad you enjoyed it! I hope you keep watching, I think you really will love it. I'm afraid the gore is a staple, but it is a gothic romance, so you have to expect that. It's a love story and a horror story. Alex is right about the movie - it was very homoerotic but it was never explicit about Louis & Lestat's relationship. Luckily, the show makes it obvious they're queer and in love and focuses on how that affects them and their lives. Thanks so much for making my halloween awesome by dropping this!
Oh I'm so happy you watch this. And speaking of supernatural queer content... "Good Omens" is a really good show as well, which might be probably a bit easier to watch for you, because its tone is rather bright and not as gory and dark as IWTV. However now I'm looking forward to the rest of the season...
Also to clarify even though they slept together 1 time they had known each other and talked for months before that so him saying he is in love seem a bit more believable
It's interesting. Now I know it was months to a year upon Louis and Lestat meeting and the chapel turning scene. But while having first watched the pilot, I honestly thought it was like a day or maybe a week - at the most two. I don't know if that is significant to the poor storytelling of the show or my poor intellect and comprehension. Since I am aware the show's story telling is MAGNIFICENT, I know it's in part my poor listening skills 😂. Plus some other people's first reaction to the pilot, they were aware from the start. I wonder what makes us different in picking up those type details 😁?
@@PlayaP69 it's because them speanding a lot of time together was told not shown, which makes sense in terms of story pacing, because if the series were to follow that time between their meeting and the change, it'd be episodes upton episodes of just that. This isn't the aim of the show to begin with. We have a lot of story to cover, it's fine if we're told "we spent a lot of time together and then X happened". Here we're told that they kept getting closer & shown little glimpses, like them going to the opera, Louis talking with Grace about this man taking up a lot of his time and then the family wanting to meet him. That implies that time kept passing. I guess some viewers are more perceptive of the recounting aspect compared to others, who tend to stick to what's only shown in detail.
@@noxfior Honestly, I agree with you 1000%. I even think. after reading your comment and processing some, that it is even deeper than that 😁. I was at least able to accept it's a me problem, not a writer's problem. They are smarter than me, clearly. So what I missing? Thanks for you reply 😊. In saying that, thinking about how every episode after that, the time table is simple to me: "seven years underground", "Germany invaded Poland", "Louis Armstrong is [playing/in town tonight]", Claudia's diaries, Florence's and Louis' dates of death, Mardi Gras, etc. All easy ways for us the audience to connect the dots on the time tables. .. I think the pilot episode (the only episode where Louis is not a vampire) was intentionally more ambiguous on the scale of time (i.e. "What is time to a vampire") because it is when Louis was human 😁🤷🏿♂😂?
Just a thought - as it concerns red flag #3: Lestat and Louis had been dating for some time prior to the church scene - they went to the opera, dinners, long walks and conversations through New Orleans, etc. Lestat never forced himself on Louis: that's why he asked if Louis would accept the "dark gift" and didn't just convert him.
I'd consider making Louis crazy at his brother's funeral falls into a "Lestat forcing himself on Louis" category. Also, that gaudy display of violence in the church let Louis know for certain that he was going to come out of this dead like the priests, or dead like Lestat. Looks like insane levels of coersion, if not outright force, to me.
@@tdali8347 close but not quite, especially when it comes to the church scene. The display of violence wasn't a means of coercion by invoking fear, it was Lestat showing himself at his worst, displaying what being a vampire means to him, as a way to test Louis as a compatible companion, because if even after seeing all that Louis chose the dark gift willingly, then that was a worthy person for Lestat to have at his side. And willingly was an important part for Lestat, if nothign else for his own ego, but also because it ensured that Louis would remain by his side once turned instead of hating him instantly for turning him without his consent. We know how the story goes after and how Lestat is like, but he was, in his own fcked up way, trying to do this right and ensuring that Louis would actually want to be with him from then on.
Anne Rice did not write teen "Fluff". This is NOT "Twilight". This is the introduction of the two aspects of Vampirism in Anne's World. The Monster who is outside the Human they once were. Yes!! This is definitely the best new show on tv imo. I've watched season 1 through 3 times now and can't wait for season 2. The actors that play Lestat and Louis, Sam Reid and Jacob Anderson, are amazing.
The thing about the Vampire Chronicles (the book series this show is based on) is that everybody is queer in one way or another, even the characters you'd think are straight at first are definitely not, it's great

Best show ever ❤
I had only watched the movie a month ago before starting the series. They both left me intrigued and dramatically seduced. The characters to me are very similar to Twilight characters. Louis is like Edward and Jasper as Lestat reminds me of James, Carlisle, and Aro. 🧛🏻♂️🧛🏾🩸⚰️🖤❤️🩶
Oooooooffffff the end of the third episode will be difficult
The first season is very much Louis’s side of the story. He’s not always a reliable narrator.
OMGG YESSSS
yes react to the whole season 1
Human adults on average have 5 litres of blood. One of the few things you learn by watching vampire shows and movies throughout your teenage years 😬
This was great! You should review the movie Queen of The Damned
