The reason why the dialogue is so specific is because the writer's room for this show is full of playwrights. Even the showrunner is, I believe, an award winning playwright.
I love the writing SO much. The line about how Louis heard a drum beat when he was becoming a vampire, then realized the beat was his heart and Lestat’s heart…blew me away
Cutting Lestats throat may have actually helped him by letting all of the poisoned blood out. Louie definitely knew what he was doing. He just wanted to incompacitate Lestat so they could escape.
@@angeleyes3386 I think Louise intended to be far away across the ocean by then. He just wanted he and Claudia to be free of Lestat. I don't think he truly wanted to destroy Lestat. He could have completely decapitated and burned him to ashes, but he didn't. He loved him too much to destroy him. I'm not sure if you have read the books, and I'm not sure how much this series will follow the books, but your question does become a significant issue in the book. That's all I will say so I don't give away possible spoilers.
The fact that Louis can't float but Rashid/Armand can and so he can control what Louis reads (which Is his favorite pastime) also the episode when Rashid/Armand says Louis is "resting" and lets Daniel read Claudia's diaries....Was he REALLY restnig? Big'ol red flags. Louis has a type and its toxic tops. Can't wait for Season 2. Need some Lestat flashbacks. Also can't wait to see where they go with modern day Dubai plot.
Recent big life of Marius video showed who really Armand is and it’s full story is quite wild and needs a set of films on its own for the fact of the story that it formed with so many characters involved. Armand wasn’t even his actual name.
When Louis hung that man on the fence with that sign... You said, "Make a statement.", but every black person watching this show knew what was going to happen next. You're saying it wasn't Louis's fault. It was. They know it was a black person who did it, so they wipe out the black people in the city. That's just how it went. Hell, even today, if there is a major crime like a mass shooting or smoothing, every black person is like "don't be black. don't be black. don't be black." It may be 2023, but the eyes will still move to our direction.
I kind of figured the pressure was already building up and Louis just popped the balloon. It *was* his fault. But it was also always going to happen.... because it was 100% intentional. If you take people, put pressure on them, and then blame them for anything bad that happens when they revolt against your tyranny you can always both be the tyrant *and* the victim, even as you slaughter innocents who had no part in the revolt. And that, is a tale as old as time.
yeah it's not his fault people are racists but he knew what he was doing and even lestat called him out when he tried to Say that he did it for his people. He knew what would happen
it's always so sad coming upon people who actually believe the race riots were louis fault. even lestat tells him it wasn't his fault. glad that the petty pumpkins are smart enough to catch on to that fact there. and you do not speak for all black people. because black people who know the real life history the show is drawing from know race riots were common in the usa during jim crow. it was how white america punished black americans for trying to make their own spaces. as lestat said, “you merely provided them an excuse.” it was going to happen with or without louis getting involved. and louis blaming himself is part of his melancholy and also hubris
@@lestatsbaby8 people (not these reactors tho 💖) keep ignoring the racial context in the show and its really affecting how they view the characters and their actions :/ Definitely not fair to blame a victim of MULTIPLE hate crimes for retaliating when white mobs were destroying black communities for less (Tulsa massacre happened in the same era).
Precisely, it's like the actual slaves that did manage at the time to burn down their plantations or kill their "masters." Yes, justified, but also they all knew what would happen and who would come after them, and could not have expected no retaliation. In situations like this, people are bound to snap and when you do snap from the pressure of living like this, you just do, and in the heat of the moment, you aren't thinking. All you want is to be free of what has been plaguing you your whole life. There may have been a little ignorance there, like putting up the colored only sign on the door or thinking he had any type of protection in the city because he had money, but agree he had to know that this wasn't going to go unchecked in this time period or frankly, any other. I am however glad that this is one of the few reactions I've seen where race wasn't just glossed over because that is a HUGE part of the context and why Anne Rice was so keen on having Louis be black and not white, because there was this story to tell where context was huge. Dynamics of power, race, society, are all challenged. I loved that about season 1.
@@geminihexx9858 It's not that deep. Also if you want to be technical, he's better known for roles other than Louis, (such as the one hes literally on tour for right now) so maybe respect the man and use his actual name.
Yeah I agree with you that it was suicide Paul was way messed up in the head way before lestat even came along had Louie agree with his sister to put him in that institution over on Gretna then he wouldn't have been able to commit suicide he'd still be alive and the only reason why Louis stayed distant after Paul's death is because of his freaking mom blaming him for something that he didn't even do it wasn't Louie's fault that Paul died everybody knew that Paul was not right in the head even his own mom said that he was fragile and he wasn't right in the head I think it's messed up how Louie's mom in the first episode kept blaming Louie even though it wasn't Louie's fault.
if lestat was ever gonna take out one of Louis' family members, it woulda been his mom, not Paul. And NO, Lestat's entire point was that he DIDN'T want Louis to struggle with guilt and shame. That's why he would get so angry about Louis refusing human blood. Because it was such a struggle for Louis to maintain it.
Kind of. I think it all ties into Lestat needing to be with someone and accept who he is unconditionally. Because Lestat WAS attempting to guilt trip him for withholding sex when he was looking for Claudia and then say he was making Louis feel bad for his choice of diet, discouraged him from seeing his family, or wanting to work/buy the Azalea. It's Lestat thinking that Louis needs what Lestat personally needs to be happy and live without shame, which doesn't work like that. Guilt tripping someone/discouraging someone for doing something that seems important to them right now is not the way to go. Because Louis at the start of the series started off being able to hold his own, then slowly started turning into a broken shell of a man who didn't defy Lestat anymore. So was Lestat really trying to help Louis live without shame or was he just trying to get him to stop complaining?
@@CTM418 this is a fantastic comment because I disagree so strongly with it lol! 😅 All those things for sure happen but it completely depends on which perspective you’re looking at everybody’s actions. There is sooooo much context to every action Lestat took (he’s a completely different *species* than Louis; an old vampire who is bitter towards humanity right now), and sooooo much pathos as to why Louis acts the way he acts (he’s a new vampire who barely knew himself as a human and now has to navigate a world in which he will outlive his complicated family). To me, they’re both understandable and I think a lot of actions attributed to Lestat are judged from the very human lens of **is this healthy on the human morality spectrum** which…just isn’t as applicable anymore. And this will be further explored in season two. Anyway, I look forward to turning this comment over in my brain some more. 😆
@@RixxeyG So are you saying then that because they are vampires that "human" morality 100% no longer applies to them, so we cannot look at them through that lens in any way? Because Anne Rice literally based Lestat, Louis, and Claudia on her human family. The show paints a very human portrait of domestic abuse that happens within a family with the patriarchal "head". I think it's more interesting to see how much human society affects these vampires so that even though they call themselves "above" or "other" to humans, they are still influenced by their norms, with their family/group dynamics being reflected as such. The show on numerous occasions calls Louis the housewife and Claudia the daughter, and no matter how much they try to escape that role, the role sticks so long as Lestat is present in their lives. In fact, at one point, Louis calls himself and Claudia the children of Lestat, comparing himself to how a lot of women in classical works of literature felt when their oppressive husbands treated them like their own children and/or frightened them. Claudia and Louis cannot escape racism as vampires, because not only do humans still treat them unfairly, their dynamic with Lestat also paints a portrait of a slave master and the enslaved, with the slave master holding all the power and knowledge, and the enslaved being forced to adapt and navigate that environment (which is also pointed out in the show). I don't know; I feel comments like "they're vampires, don't judge them so harshly, everyone's understandable", or "wait until we see Lestat's perspective until we judge!" is such a cop-out because Anne Rice, the actors, and creator of the show emphasizes the humanity of these inhuman vampires on multiple occasions, abuse can exist either way, and also...why is it important to also look at things through Lestat's perspective in the case mentioned previously? I already understand Lestat's perspective after reading the books and even watching the first season. But how is it that Louis through his narration, and Claudia through her diaries, describe themselves being abused make fans then go, "Well, they're vampires. Things are just like that. Let's just see what Lestat says to find out what REALLY happened. Lestat's the older and wiser vampire after all", to me says everything. Like you never said this exactly, but why I'm getting the feeling that a lot of people think that Louis and Claudia the only unreliable ones, and only through understanding Lestat, we can see the real truth? Why do we need to see "both sides of the story", which is only what some fans say whenever the abuse of Louis by Lestat is brought up? Like Idk what your comment was meant to imply, especially because you were laughing so much at the supposed ridiculousness of it and that you needed to wrap your head around it. You told me I needed to understand both perspectives, but I already did in my last comment?? (the show was pretty transparent about that) I only questioned the INNOCENCE of Lestat's actions. So what did you really want me to say: "aww, poor weedle old vampire, so bitter about humanity, I completely understand what you're doing to Louis, you can't help it, and you're probably right anyway. Louis doesn't understand better because he's too young."
@@CTM418I think Louie and Claudia being referred to as "Lestats children" is more a reference to them being his vampire progeny. When a vampire makes another vampire, they are looked at as their "child" in the vampire world.
Jacob and Sam's chemistry is such a high level, it has had me hooked for a whole year. I loved the IWTV for a while and honestly was skeptical about a tv show adaptation, but knowing Anne rice was involved made me interested. And now I've been obsessed with it since last year.
Anne Rice was not creatively involved with the series at all, although she was excited when the rights were acquired by AMC. Her son Christopher had some involvement, mostly after her death. (NYT, Eric Piepenburg article 9-30-22).
Jacob and Sam met on Zoom when they auditioned, they met in person a few days before the shoot started. The chemistry comes from the friendship they formed, communicating boundaries and being brilliant actors as well a very lovely people. Now of course they are dear friends and say they have a bond for life 🌷
So happy you two found this series! In the movie, they tried to be like "Oh, Louis and Lestat are 'roommates'." In this, they finally admitted that they were in love and that Louis was a closeted gay man while Lestat was pan sexual. I cannot wait for season 2.
I have seen both season 1 and season 2 and the only thing I don't like about season 2 is that they had a different girl play Claudia. I actually think there might be a season 3 because the way that it ended in season 2 it just kind of left it you know to where I think there needs to be a season 3.
How the heck have you not seen the movie the movie came out in the '90s I will tell you that the movie and the TV show are quite different from each other you need to watch the movie now.
Every episode title is a quote from the book. The script mixed with words directly from the book make up the top tier verbiage. Looking so forward to Season 2
Sooo happy more people are watching !! WE need real promo for this show it's so good and well written, it's a shame that more people aren't watching it :'(
I am totally in love with Dam Reid as Lestat. He is totally mesmerizing. Also, y'all realize Jacob Anderson was also Grey Worm on Game of Thrones, right?
Hi. I'm a huge old gay nerd. I've ready most of the books. The adaptation isn't word for word but Ms. Rice was directly involved and the makers of the Interview show GET the characters. They understand them. Louie is a different race than the books but he's 100% Louie. Lestat is Lestat is Lestat. Like if you watch the movie, then Queen of the Damned, then this show; Lestat is Lestat. From the preview, Season 2 is going to be extremely good too.
i don't think y'all understood that Louis wouldn't have been allowed in that opera house if he didn't disguise. its the racism that makes it horrible and Lestat should have figured out another way.
Yess!!! My main issue with Lestat is that he doesn't understand that Louis Humanity affects him. Racism is something that Lestat never dealt with, so he could fully escape as a vampire. However, Louis can't ever stop being black even as a vampire. He can't just ignore black people suffering because he's a black person who is suffering from those same things. Of he'd retains his humanity and has empathy for those other humans.
EXACTLY!!!! Wttttfffffffff a romantic date in Jim Crow?! There are several times Lestat sees the racism Louis endured and did nothing to support his man. THAT right there is why they aren't endgame
@@obehiikhigbonoaremen1241I don’t think it’s the case where he ignores it, he’s just an oblivious goofball because we see that it infuriates Lestat when Louis himself thinks of himself as less than or when Louis “allows” other people to treat him this way but Louis really can’t help it… he’s not being an ahole, I think too it’s because Lestat see humans as food so he’s like umm Louis bby y do we have to keep up with these idiots and that affect the whole relationship their pov.
My issue with Lestat is he fails to understand how racism affects Louis life and how It's part of the reason Louis can't fully leave his human life. Racism still affects him as a vampire and connects him to his old life. He can't fully divorce himself from his old life. Louis IS at fault for putting a target on the other black people in the town due to his recklessness ,but yes the racist white men were even more deranged/ at fault for burning it down because of bigotry.
I think I was one of the first people begging yall to watch this when it came out last year. I knew yall would love it. I'm absolutely obsessed with this show. Anne Rice would have been proud
I don’t know that she would tbh, she ended up not having anything to do with it because the show has strayed from the books even though I believe the show is closer to the books than the movie was, mostly, so I do if she would be proud or not, her son ended up not having anything to do with it
BOOK SUGGESTIONS (since you asked): 30 year Anne Rice fan here. Since you've already watched the 1994 movie you know most of the big plot beats from the rest of the first book, but as it will only be a few months until S2 drops I'd say it would be best to wait your reading until after that. Then I'd get started on enjoying some of the most florid, vivid, gothic prose you're ever likely to encounter! The closest thing to a consensus among book fans is that books 1-3 are the most consistently high quality ones in the series; books 4-6 have very mixed reviews (with book 6 being particularly polarizing, everyone seems to either love it or hate it); and opinions on the remainder of the series vary from positive to open ridicule to utter hatred. Personally, I think that long time fans became very protective of the characters and stories over the decades, and as Rice's own opinions and characterizations changed (as would be expected over 40+ years) many people felt betrayed or abandoned by the author and felt the books deviated too much from the original tone and style. Also worth mentioning is that she did not use a creative editor after book 3, and she alienated lots of fans with her legal actions against fan fiction writers. True facts: the Mayfair Witches books are even more polarizing as their content makes the Vampire Chronicles look like YA romance. That trilogy is wall to wall explicit incest, underage sex, and rape - I say this as an avid fan of those books as well! They're very well written and completely original, if you can stomach the squicky content. The Mayfair TV series? Don't waste your time, it is TERRIBLE. While it shares a universe with IWTV, I highly doubt that it will last long enough to get to the actual crossover material. Thank you for your reaction, it was very entertaining!
I watched the first 2 episodes of Mayfair Witches and it was awful sorry 😂 IWTV is my obsession now. Almost as strong as Lestat's obsession with Louis❤
@divinefeminineblueprint no apologies necessary, it is objectively awful. I wish they would just cut their losses with that one so they can focus on the other books, especially with the upcoming Talamasca series.
A note about the final episode: Lestat wasn't dying from the arsenic. He was dying because the blood with the arsenic in it was already dead (he drank dead blood) which is why he started to cough and weaken. In his vulnerable state, he could not heal the damage Louis and Claudia did to him.
This isn't quite accurate. It was the combination of the dead blood with the poison (in the book, the poison is laudanum, not arsenic, which further stupefied Lestat and made him unable to fight back).
The only problem I find with this is not actually the show's fault. People who are familiar with the original book and movie go into this show thinking Lestat is evil and just tricking everyone. But he's not. Lestat isn't tricking Louis. He doesn't want a mindless slave. He wants an actual partner. He could mind snatch anyone he wants, if that's what he wanted, but he doesn't want that with Louis. The first book and movie are told from Louis's point of view and as they thankfully show a few times in this show, LOUIS IS NOT A RELIABLE NARRATOR. The Lestat in this show is the Lestat from the other books in the series. He's not evil. Yes, he has a temper. Yes, he kills people. He's a vampire. Lions aren't called murderers for eating other animals. That's just what they do. And it wasn't even Lestat's choice to become a vampire. That's why he's big on consent for the change. Lestat has major abandonment issues and major religion issues. But he did NOT kill Paul. He has never kept Louis from his family, because he knows he loves them. I do love the change in this show however that Lestat actually takes the time to get to know Louis. He's intrigued by him from the beginning, but then, THEY ACTUALLY DATE... FOR WEEKS. Lestat literally falls in love with Louis. Book and movie Lestat, if Louis had said no to turning, Lestat would have killed him. THIS Lestat... he would have let him live and just kept trying to persuade him. He has a temper, yes, but he mostly reigns it in until he snaps and it goes too far. Until then... what was he doing wrong? People keep saying, he's evil, he's evil. Aside from the vampire killings... what was he doing that was evil? He bends over backwards (literally, in some cases) to make Louis happy. It's falls apart later, when he gets violent with Louis, but that's not there at the beginning so people are projecting the other versions of Lestat onto this one. I do appreciate that the show points out that Louis is not being honest in his telling. I just wish they'd have done it a few more times throughout the show. I remember once with the soldier, once with a Claudia point, and then calling him out in the ending. They're kinda blink and you miss it moments.
Thank you for the extra context!! We did some research after watching the show/movie and saw some other people saying similar things to you and recommending checking out The Vampire Lestat! Definitely want to check that out too to get the full story. But we will be going into season 2 viewing Louis as an unreliable narrator definitely!
So glad you pointed this out. I wrote a huge reply echoing this as well. Lestat is a villain AND a hero -- and as far as the book series? Mostly a hero. He can be cruel but he can also be joyful and generous, and while I loved this series, I was frustrated that it just depicted Lestat as a violent abuser (which he isn't in INTERVIEW, even at his worst). I would also remind @pettypumpkins that what we are seeing is LOUIS'S guilt-ridden look back at things and that this account is one-sided and not accurate.
@@PettyPumpkins So glad y'all will check out THE VAMPIRE LESTAT. I loved this show but I hated what it did to Lestat as a character. The actor is sublime, but what we see is just not remotely Lestat from the books with all his charm and passion and joy. The irony is that in the book of INTERVIEW, Louis is kind of a frustrating downer (who later admits he made up/exacerbated what we read), and in THE VAMPIRE LESTAT, he is just this full blast of passionate bisexual joy.
This is just the tip of the iceberg. Unlike many shows who squeeze 1 whole book into an 8hour/8episode series, this season 1 of Interview S1 only covers half of the first book... so the 2nd half might be covered in season 2. I’m thinking each book will maybe split up into 2 seasons, be more or less, to comfortably cover as much material as possible. Though I think the 2nd book, The Vampire Lestat, covers A LOT throughout centuries of story so it might be 2 or maybe 3 seasons before they reach book 3 which is Queen of the Damned and who knows if that one will be the same. We will have to wait and see. Plus you’ll have to watch The Mayfair Witches show, based on the Mayfair Witches trilogy books by Anne Rice which AMC also bought the rights to, as well afterwards because it’s part of the Immortal Universe as well and they’ll be Inter once fed and maybe someday some characters from both shows my appear in each others shows etc.
The episode titles are quotations from the book, _Interview with the Vampire,_ except in, I think, one case, where it is a combination of two quotations.
I am so glad I decided to watch one episode at a time, and then watch your reaction video right after. That Part 1 fading in after all those twists and turns is so tantalizing! Hoping we get a season 2 so bad
I saw the movie version as a kid was obsessed with it.. saw this version and now am even more obsessed. This show made me actually wanna start reading all 13 of Anne Rice’s Vampire chronicle book series (I don’t like reading books)
You’ll find out the series ain’t much like the books at all. Pair the books with vampire folklore channel as well as the channel that recently produced the long video deep diving into Enkil
The casting when you chose Sam Reid to play Lestar, really, congratulations on this great seductive actor, impeccably beautiful, elegant and to top it off he also sings? Uffff.....perfect, this whole series has me in love, and that It is an adapted version, but the audiovisual effects are very well done, and the actors are very well chosen. Lestar deserved to die but he is also addictive within his violence, because he has something that bewitches you 😂well, I want more of him 🥰🥰🥰 I heard the song at the end of episode 6 over and over again, I can't understand how this actor sings with such a seductive voice.❤
I've never read the books, I have only watched the 1994 movie. But I just got done watching the Blu-ray of season 1 binged all of it, and it was AMAZING I loved every second of it. I'm officially hooked and can't wait for season 2 so very excited. I just hope word of mouth, the great reviews, and AMC get behind this show and promote it more, because it just seems like this show isn't getting enough attention and promotion it truly deserves. And also thanks Chey and Wes for this wonderful video, I watched the whole thing amazing reaction and channel.
I highly recommend the books, you'll learn so much about Lestat, all the way back to Magnus, he was telling the truth. When you read or listen to the books, you'll know how season 2 will come about. Now you did watch the movie about our lovely little vamps so you know about Armand. So yeah, I was confused as to how he could be with Louis so clearly they changed a few things. Looking forward to Season 2! I started watching The Mayfair Witches, after reading those books & I stopped watching, it wasn't for me, they changed too much. You guys are so funny, love watching you two! Have a very Merry Christmas!! 😘🎄
I'm so glad you guys like this show! I wasn't going to watch it because I didn't necessarily like the original film, but Lestat's speech at the end of episode one had me hooked. This show made me buy the first 3 books and now I'm on the 4th one. I even got season 1 as a birthday present (btw this premiered on my birthday so it was meant to be!). I showed my friend the show and she knows nothing, but we're both excited for season 2. Have you guys gotten a chance to see the posters, pictures, teaser trailer, and clip for season 2 yet? Also the actress for Claudia was replaced. I hope she does well. P.S. We love Jam Reiderson ❤
Lestat is very misunderstood and the way the show portrays him isnt exactly how he truely is and theres some theories that Armand is messing with louis memories and that he is misremembering how things actually happened. Its clear that hes in a new toxic relationship, notice how the bookshelves are too high for louis to reach but armand can? A metaphor for armand keeping the knowledge from Louis. Cant wait for season 2. I definitely recommend reading The vampire lestat to really get a good idea of who he truly is.
I mean it's not as white and black. The show doesn't have the same trajectory as the book. When Anne Rice wrote the first interview book, she was grieving like Louis and identified with him, Thus the story sympathized with him and lestat was the "villain". Then as she moved further along, she grew resentful of what Louis represented and further fleshed out lestat. Now the show writers have very rich source material to base the show on, but they have much freedom with it
@anylove370 anne flip flops all the time tbh, she's said before that in interview she wrote as louis and in tvl she wrote as lestat- the show alr had a bit of a challenge to explain that naturally without explicitly stating the canon reasons like the book did- cause whilst we're relying on louis' retelling in the series, we can actually SEE how everyone else acts around him, meaning the reader doesnt necessarily get the idea that something else could've happened, which is kinda how it is in the books That was so incoherent im sorry its v late
@@mrlagoonslawyer I get what you mean but the show doesn't claim that Louis' retelling of events is the truth, and they've already explored other points of view through Claudia's diaries and Armand's interview. I think it's likely that incorporating lestat will be done either via Daniel interviewing him directly or lestat responding to Louis' interview going public. My point in my first response is that saying that lestat's version of the story is the truth is inaccurate. I just tried to explain why Lestat gets a detailed backstory that seems to contradict the first book and why that doesn't mean Louis lied or lestat is a "good guy" (which let's face it, they're vampires, none of them are good according to human standards of behavior)
@@anylove370 oh no i agree! I don't think any of them are accurate tbh, i dont know how to write what i was actually trying to say lmfao but yes i agree
The books made me love Lestat it’s easier to forgive the things he does when you see his side of things. You should definitely read “The Vampire Lestat” if you haven’t yet it’s all from his point of view it’s brilliant.
im soooo happy i stumbled upon this reaction and reaction channel! yall were so fun to watch (as i am obsessed with this show) and i didn't pause this video ONCE. so glad that, in light of s2, people are finally paying more attention to this masterpiece. thank you guys sm for this!
I am SO glad we finally watched this. My new favorite show and obsession!!! Have yall read the books? I’m thinking about reading them 🤗🤗 so damn excited for season 2!!!
I watched the original film before starting the series. They both left me intrigued and dramatically seduced. The realization that Louis was now a powerful immortal but still was needing to still struggle with racism as well as having a strained relationship with his family is heartbreaking. What I loved about Claudia is how we not only get to experience her point of view in the interview, but her emotional journey as a vampire trapped in the body of a teenager. People often say that Twilight was filled with toxic relationships, but no doubt this relationship is just as if not more toxic. Lestat loves Louis but wishes for him to embrace his lifestyle as a vampire. Louis loves Lestat, but feels he has no empathy for what he’s sacrificed for his love or for the fact that Claudia is the closest thing he could have to the life he’ll never have. Claudia loves Louis and was grateful the skills Lestat taught her. However she hates that Louis chooses to heed to Lestat when he abuses them and doesn’t care about their own feelings. This season finale was literally a bloodbath and tragic romantic one. The revelation of Armand definitely surprised me, and I was “tell me more, tell me more!” 🧛🏻♂️🧛🏾🧛🏾♀️❤️💔🩸🖤⚰️🏳️🌈
Vampires act like vampires: OMG WHY ARE THEY ACTING LIKE VAMPIRES??????? 😂Also - ALL vampire lore is different from other vampire lore. You can't watch one author's lore and think it applies to another lore.
But a LOT of modern vampire stories have absolutely taken a significant amount of inspiration from Anne Rices vampires. So you can definitely see the through lines...but yeah, technically all the lore is different than takes different bits from different inspiration, for sure.
Fun fact: Louis's actor was in Game of Thrones, playing a soldier named Grey Worm. A bit of trivia that might help the algorithm. I forget what episode Claudia shows up in, good thing this is the whole season in one go. It's episode 4. I think.
the woman you guys were wondering about was antoinette- the singer who he’d been sleeping with from the beginning, the one claudia exposed him about. (“the singer with the flat no nothing ass.” she wasn’t a vampire at first but when lestat said “i’ll kill her soon” technically he did, but he made her into a vampire so he could keep her for his own sexual entertainment instead of fully killing her like louis and claudia wanted him. also, louis didn’t fake his death. grace created that grave because it was easier to say that he was dead instead of admitting that he was a vampire. i’m so glad that y’all see how manipulative and evil lestat is because some people are still rooting for him even though he was physically and emotionally abusive to louis and claudia.
!!! Some people will really say "Claudia attempting to kill Lestat means she's more evil than Lestat, all Lestat really wanted was to be loved" without an ounce of self-reflection. Also just cuz he ends up being a main character in the later books doesn't mean people have to like him, or that his perspective is more correct than Louis. I mean, haven't they ever heard of Breaking Bad, Mad Men, Bates Motel, where the main characters are, like, bad and can't really be trusted? You can have a great main character without thinking you have to excuse their actions or even like them lol. Maybe Anne Rice did later on with Lestat, but I appreciate this show isn't going the abuse-apologetic route.
They are all monsters who originally came from situations of abuse. I am a longtime Vampire Chronicles reader, I love all of the characters (particularly Lestat), and I’m not alone… ❤ the original book painted Lestat in a bad light- and the show definitely stuck to it. Cant wait for season 2!!!
@@CTM418 I do understand. However, it’s messy gothic drama. So many people have judged fans for liking Lestat despite what we see in the show and it’s exhausting. I like anti-heroes and bad boys in literature and that’s it.
@@tvaddict6623 maybe it’s not liking him that’s the problem (he’s a great character even if he’s not personally to my tastes as domestic violence turns me off anyone), but more people excusing him/sympathizing with him while not extending the same graces to other characters, or even worse, painting other characters or victims of his abuse more evil in comparison to him (Louis, Claudia, Armand). It’s just the ones who do, it looks especially bad because they end up minimizing the effects of domestic violence and racism because they wanna stan a bad white boy. It’s kind of a case where of course you should like what you want, but fiction DOES sometimes reflect reality. Like many people love Lestat or other fictional bad boys and don’t have to weird about it you know? Like I like Norman from Bates Motel even though he’s trash lol like I don’t have to hate on the women in his life just to defend his fictional honour.
My Lestat is a problématique monster twink and needs to le Stahp!😂 Loved this reaction, and can’t wait to see how y’all react to season 2!! Y’all should watch the trailer and clip for season 2!!
What a great series! I was stoked by the ending! I originally read the Vampire Chronicles alongside the Mayfair Witches and it was always cool when they would connect!
My fiancé complained the whole time we watched the movie that they kept tiptoeing around the gay. When we watched this iteration, she literally yelled THANK YOU at the screen when Louis and Lestat kissed.
I never heard of this series, I heard about the original movie but they made it into a show. . . Already obsessed with Louie 😍 Wes was gagged during that sex scene and so was I. I need more Vampire shows like this please. I loveeeeeeee ya'll so much ❤
Yeah but the show was way different compared to the movie which I love because it's longer and I actually hope they make a season 3 because the way season 2 left off at the end felt unfinished to me.
Yeah Nosferatu sucked I wish I could have let you know sooner but it freaking sucked. I believe the only good movies that Bill Skarsgard did was IT chapter 1 and chapter 2.
The Mayfair Witches doesn't really cross over with Interview, but does in later novels. Mainly through a group that studies and records the supernatural. Season one of Mayfair introduces you to this group. I don't know if there is to be a 2nd season of Mayfair. What Lestat told them about his maker Magnus was 100% true. Season 2 of Interview still is based on the 1st book. Hopefully, they will get to The Vampire Lestat, if there is a 3rd season.
I absolutely loved this series, I loved the movie (of course). Your reaction was exactly what I thought is would be. AMAZING. I'm so glad you reacted to this.
@@cullenarthur8879 Yes, that's what Louis is saying. But Jelly Roll Morton was a real person and he really composed the "Wolverine Blues." He was an extremely important figure in jazz and ragtime music. Daniel questions Louis's memory here, so maybe this is supposed to cue viewers in about Louis as unreliable narrator, but then the truth of the matter is brushed aside as unimportant, and the takeaway from most viewers seems to be that Lestat created the song, if not jazz itself. Taking the credit away from a real black man and giving it to a fictional white man is dicey at best, whatever the writers' goals in doing this were.
@@HuntingVioletsim fairly sure the intention was to fairly explicitly call out louis being unreliable- since daniel literally pulls up the actual track (incidentally an absolute banger), but i agree it does suffer since viewers have split opinions as to what it means
I've been an Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles fan my whole life, and I actually prefer this new adaptation of the story. Anne was a life long Queer ally and the stories get even Queerer. This was a great reaction as always 🖤🏳️🌈🖤 Also, if you want a Vampire movie that will make you scream MOTHER, check out the dripping with style "Vamp" from 1986 starring THE MOTHER OF ALL MOTHERS Grace Jones 💋🦇⚰️
I am so happy y'all reacted to it!! I completely agree, we need to talk about this show so we can continue getting seasons. There's A LOT of books in this series. Would love to see everything unfold on TV. Sam Reid & Jacob Anderson's chemistry is so off the charts in this show. Cant wait to see what season 2 holds.
I do think you'd love the depths of the vampire history and lore, along with the eloquent language of the books! Plenty of time to at least read the first 3 before our high hopes for season 2 after this! Thanks for the great reactions ❤
Anne Rice's vampire lore is my favorite as I read the 1st 3 books in high school back in the late 80s when such content was very challenging to find. I wasn't a huge fan of the Tom cruise Lestat but enjoyed Queen of the damned for great performances by Stuart & Alliyah and such a great soundtrack. Now... This TV series is such a terrific interpretation of the saga and I hope it will continue for many seasons. Great show & excellent source material. If you read the books the ending of season 1 is a big Easter egg moment ❤
The reason why the dialogue is so specific is because the writer's room for this show is full of playwrights. Even the showrunner is, I believe, an award winning playwright.
The episode titles are direct quotes from the book, 2hich itself has a very, and I mean very flowery prose.
@@JustChillingOnTattoinenot just the ep titles, but a lot of the dialogue is straight from the books too.
MY GODD
But what when he comes back?! 😱
YUPPPPP
So what was Louis actually doing then? I really didn’t think much of that at the time
When Louis hung that man on the fence with that sign...
Louis didn't fake his death. His sister set up that grave for him.
Thank you!!
Im happy to see Greyworm living his best afterlife
He can get it in Game of Thrones, in 1900's New Orleans, in 2020s Dubai, whenever, where-ever.... (I'll stop)

@@geminihexx9858can't wipe away that part of his legacy.
@@geminihexx9858 It's not that deep. Also if you want to be technical, he's better known for roles other than Louis, (such as the one hes literally on tour for right now) so maybe respect the man and use his actual name.
Paul was hearing voices before Lestat came along, and the way he was asking whether Grace and Louis would be okay fits in with suicide.

Louis has the most connection to his brother, so after that dinner scene I have a hard time believing that
@@CTM418 this is a fantastic comment because I disagree so strongly with it lol!

This was such a great series. They chemistry was so good it made sense that they was already friends in real life. We need a season 2 ASAP!! ❤
Jacob and Sam met on Zoom when they auditioned, they met in person a few days before the shoot started.
"Is it real tho?" is SUCH A GOOD QUESTION. Is it? IS IT?
Vampires. 👏DON'T.👏Change.👏
i don't think y'all understood that Louis wouldn't have been allowed in that opera house if he didn't disguise. its the racism that makes it horrible and Lestat should have figured out another way.
I’m so happy to hear someone else appreciate Jacob’s (Louis’s) bone structure besides me 😂. He is a beautiful man.
I do agree with you that both Louie and Lestat are quite handsome however they are not my cup of tea. 🙂
Lestat is basically the main character of the books- don’t worry. He’ll be back.
I didn't know The Vampire Armand was controversial, is it because of its upsetting content?
I watched the first 2 episodes of Mayfair Witches and it was awful sorry 😂
IWTV is my obsession now.

@@paramitch that's right. Been a long time since I read the book. Thank you.
Lestat was killing it whole season i love him sm he’s so evil and yeah they couldn’t kill his he’s like main character in books
2:31:27 Louis's eyes: "Help me"
Armando's eyes: "Just try and take him from me."
The first three novels in the Vampire Chronicles are some of my all time favorite novels. The Vampire Lestat is brilliant.
THANK YOU!!!💞💞
So glad you pointed this out.
Lestat did cheat on Louis, and being physically violent is no joke. Physical abuse is awful.
I absolutely adore this show. Jacob Anderson deserve an emmy nomination for his role as Louis. I too love Claudia 💙

They have audio versions of the books available were you can just listen to the books If you don't like reading.
You’ll find out the series ain’t much like the books at all. Pair the books with vampire folklore channel as well as the channel that recently produced the long video deep diving into Enkil
I was wondering when y'all were gonna watch this..knew you'd love it.
The casting when you chose Sam Reid to play Lestar, really, congratulations on this great seductive actor, impeccably beautiful, elegant and to top it off he also sings? Uffff.....perfect, this whole series has me in love, and that
It is an adapted version, but the audiovisual effects are very well done, and the actors are very well chosen. Lestar deserved to die but he is also addictive within his violence, because he has something that bewitches you 😂well, I want
more of him 🥰🥰🥰
I heard the song at the end of episode 6 over and over again, I can't understand how this actor sings with such a seductive voice.❤
The Shakespearean Tragedy that teachers SHOULD'VE taught us back in high school 😎🩸🧛♂️
Season 2 needs to come ASAP
I highly recommend the books, you'll learn so much about Lestat, all the way back to Magnus, he was telling the truth. When you read or listen to the books, you'll know how season 2 will come about. Now you did watch the movie about our lovely little vamps so you know about Armand. So yeah, I was confused as to how he could be with Louis so clearly they changed a few things. Looking forward to Season 2! I started watching The Mayfair Witches, after reading those books & I stopped watching, it wasn't for me, they changed too much. You guys are so funny, love watching you two! Have a very Merry Christmas!! 😘🎄
Queen Of The Damned movie does it.
Oh I do so love Armands orange eyes. It's like there's a fire burning.
About damn time!!!!! ❤ LESTAT COULD BEND MY BACK 😊
Their comments are hilarious.😂😂😂😂
P.S. We love Jam Reiderson ❤
glad you're reading the books, amazing huh?
@@brianr7726They are! I've been stuck on the fourth one because I'm reading multiple books at once and I'm sick 😩
Now the show writers have very rich source material to base the show on, but they have much freedom with it
@anylove370 anne flip flops all the time tbh, she's said before that in interview she wrote as louis and in tvl she wrote as lestat- the show alr had a bit of a challenge to explain that naturally without explicitly stating the canon reasons like the book did- cause whilst we're relying on louis' retelling in the series, we can actually SEE how everyone else acts around him, meaning the reader doesnt necessarily get the idea that something else could've happened, which is kinda how it is in the books
That was so incoherent im sorry its v late
Great reaction! I read the books years ago... not all of them. This series makes me want to reread them.
@2:20:27 aww sweetie, i hate to inform you but Louis and Lestat are endgame and Anne Rice even wrote them an official wedding scene.
Omggggg yesssss I've never been so happy for a reaction!!!!!!!
Claudia travels and Loustat enter their Grey Gardens period.
Loved this reaction. Did you guys actually notice Rashid was there in the 70's? I was confused as you didn't comment on it.
Not us being served a full binge. What a treat!
"He needs to Le-Stop" 🤣
"He better watch out..."
"He's not comin' Le-Back"
Ya'll stop
I was so not ready for how *fantastic* this show was. 😍
I’m not ten minutes in an I know s2 with you guys is gonna be wild 😜🙌🏼✊🏼
And just bc I’m not sure if you’ve seen the fan casting but Gillian Anderson 🙌🏼
I've been WAITING for you guys to react to this show, thanks so much. So excited for season two.
Loved your reaction to all. My emoticons reaction just proves I need to rewatch, yet again.
Fun fact: Louis's actor was in Game of Thrones, playing a soldier named Grey Worm. A bit of trivia that might help the algorithm. I forget what episode Claudia shows up in, good thing this is the whole season in one go.
It's episode 4. I think.
Claudia shows up at the end of season 1 episode 3 she makes an appearance. In season 1 episode 4 is when she becomes a vampire. 🙂
the woman you guys were wondering about was antoinette- the singer who he’d been sleeping with from the beginning, the one claudia exposed him about.
@@tvaddict6623 They are all monsters but Lestat is the domestic abuser. That's kind of what people have an issue with here.
Just found you guys for the first time. You are hilarious!
Your one-liners are EVERYTHING!!!
My Lestat is a problématique monster twink and needs to le Stahp!😂 Loved this reaction, and can’t wait to see how y’all react to season 2!! Y’all should watch the trailer and clip for season 2!!
Very glad you guys reacted to the season. I watched all of it at the same time as I was watching your reaction!
Christmas came early!! Thank you so much. Loved that you loved this show!!
Lestat wasn't angry she won; he was angry she wouldn't make the move to win and finish the game.
You both are so intelligent and hilarious.
Omg. The whole first season! I am ready!
I looooooved this video thank you SO MUCH!!!!!!!!
The movie is so disturbing when you realize that a 12 year old child was forced to kiss a 30 year old man. I can’t NEVER watch anything about it.
Loved it. Thank you guys ❤❤❤❤
We just had the official Season 2 trailer drop. May 12th is when Season 2 premieres I look forward to seeing your reactions to the new Season👍
That was great even 8mos later, great job guys
1:21:30 Nosferatu is being remade by Robert Eggers, with Bill Skarsgard playing Count Orlok. I can't wait!
Yeah Nosferatu sucked I wish I could have let you know sooner but it freaking sucked. I believe the only good movies that Bill Skarsgard did was IT chapter 1 and chapter 2.
@Amanda-i5r6z I disagree. I already saw it multiple times and loved it. I thought it was beautifully done, and loved the way they did Orlok.
The episode names are Anne Rice quotes from the book.
2.5 hours with Wes and Chey??? Oh hell yeah!
you guys defending Claudia with your life is relateble
He he he! I am so excited for this!
Oh yass let me get some popcorn to watch this!
The great Jelly Roll Morton is the composer of "The Wolverine Blues." Louis's memory isn't all that.
I thought that Louie was saying that even though Morton is the one given credit for it, Lestat is the one that actually created the song.
@@HuntingViolets I see your point.
@@HuntingVioletsim fairly sure the intention was to fairly explicitly call out louis being unreliable- since daniel literally pulls up the actual track (incidentally an absolute banger), but i agree it does suffer since viewers have split opinions as to what it means
@@mrlagoonslawyer Yes, most of the viewers don't even realize he was a real person and not someone made up for the show.
I've been an Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles fan my whole life, and I actually prefer this new adaptation of the story. Anne was a life long Queer ally and the stories get even Queerer. This was a great reaction as always 🖤🏳️🌈🖤
Also, if you want a Vampire movie that will make you scream MOTHER, check out the dripping with style "Vamp" from 1986 starring THE MOTHER OF ALL MOTHERS Grace Jones 💋🦇⚰️
Okay… I’m new here… but I’m loving it here❤😂 subscribed
Welcome!! Thanks for subscribing 🥰 Hope you have a fun time watching our videos 🎃☕️
So excited for y'all to sink your teeth into this reaction! ;P
14:21 "he heard they were drinking blood and he ran" PLEASE 😭
Woot woot!!! Super stoked for this. Thanks for the length, I even wish it were longer.
