Louis wants Claudia out of guilt, for the damage he caused to his own community with his reckless act, desperate for redemption he makes a selfish decision and Lestat accepts because he sees an opportunity to baby trap him, nothing toxic to see here lol

I’m confused. She literally made references in this episode to her age being 18, and then 19. Was she just lying or what?
I think not. Because I KNOW they would not actually portray a 14 YEAR OLD having sex. That’s disgusting and probably illegal.

@@DoubleBlack2.0 Well, that's the part of the drama of the show. Claudia is physically 14, mentally 19, played by a 19 year old actor. Yes, it is very controversial. Which leads to discussions like these. In the books she was five and in the movies she was 10 (played by 11 year old Kirsten). Think about it like any other teen drama or CW TV series where the teenagers are known to be sexually active, and they also aren't showing any explicit material. Keep in mind that Charles said, "you can't be older than me" when Claudia said, "I'm 19." So therefore his specific age was not directly divulged. Meaning her can be any age under 19. Likely still a teenager though. It's wonderful to have these discords amongst ourselves. Imagine how Claudia must be feeling, knowing that she will mentally age (19, 25, 60, 65, 358. ..) with the desires of wanting to experience adult things, but being stuck with people seeing her as a child. Imagine having to debate being a mentally mature being but only acceptable options being adolescents, but in reality you are older than those boys parents. Is that not also weird 😂?!

@@DoubleBlack2.0She was turned into a vampire at 14. When she says she's 18, 19, etc., it's because that's the age she would've been if she hadn't been turned, but her body is eternally stuck at 14.

Lestat was actually warned not to make a child or a person who hasn't lived much of a life by someone very ancient and wise, he even tries to tell Louis in French in the background in that scene that she is "too young" but as usual, Lestat is so in love with Louis that he can't say no to anything he asks of him, and he's also so afraid that Louis will leave him if he doesn't, and he will have to face the loneliness again, that he fears above all else. It goes against the vampire laws in this universe too to make a child that young, Lestat KNOWS that it's a bad idea, and it's going to affect them down the line because they will never be able to introduce Claudia to other vampires without putting her in danger. She is also going to age mentally but stay a kid forever while having the appetite of a teenager, which would fuck anyone up, psychologically. Basically, him turning Claudia worked for a short while but is going to backfire horrendously in so many ways down the line. That being said, it's clear in the books that Lestat loves her. He is proud of her; she is the fledgling Louis could never be, as vicious as Lestat himself, and he calls her "The evil of my evil" and "Infant Death" in a loving way. He even says Claudia "broke his heart." Keep the reactions coming :) Ps. Major trigger warning for the next ep, by the way. Prepare yourselves. You're in for a rough ride.

I feel enough people don't give Grace(the sister) the benefit of the doubt she isn't mad/nasty toward him because he's gay
from her pov she essentially lost both her brothers within the same time frame and one of them is "alive" but chooses to live a life away from her they were very close and then he just disappears with Lestat and then turns up with a daughter he's living a whole life she doesn't get to be a part of and he's missing out on the things in hers because he can't be there
she isn't like the mother but I'm sure the mothers nasty opinions that she has about Louis had seeped through a little but she loves her brother and is just mad that he essentially left her behind

I agree with you on Grace's motivations, but it's her words that will mark Louis' life. Like Mama Du Lac accusing Louis of causing Paul's death, Grace targeting her brother's gayness in such an ugly, attacking fashion is what triggers the final collapse of his hope to connect with humanity.

"Couples have ups and downs. I think they've had more downs..." That is an understatement. In the movie from the 90's, Claudia is like 11 or 12. In the book, she's thought to be around 6-8 when turned! I won't say the book/movie spoiler things that make Claudia's story EVEN WORSE. Needless to say, it is so fucked up. I think the show does a really good job of showing how a 14-year-old would react to that trauma. Little to no impulse control, lots of energy, budding sexuality, initially thinking it's great but eventually coming to terms with how bad it it, propensity to self-harm as a result, etc. This show is often a hard watch. I'm wracking my brain to think of genuinely happy moments that aren't tainted later on, and I can't think of any.

Grace was approving of Louis's (rather obvious) relationship with Lestat up until Louis' left her baby on the floor (according to Louis). The next time after that was the door. That she has ceased to be approving of Louis and Lestat is understandable.
Lestat is teaching Claudia the way he tried to teach Louis, but Claudia is more amenable to it.

i'm surprised, i really thought josh would go harsh on the babygirl lol i'm so happy you liked her and felt for her ❤ and yes, the writing on this show goes crazy with those parallels between queerness and vampirism, how queer ppl were seen, like, that scene with his sister was nuts same as 'the talk' with claudia turning into murder ☠️

Turning a child is actually forbidden by the vampire community. Lestat is a rebel among vampires though. He often disregards vampire rules and norms. I won't get into detail to avoid spoilers, but it's also why Lestat is more powerful than most vampires his age.

In Anne Rice's world, Vampires are stuck at the same emotional maturity as when they were turned. So someone who was turned at 35+ will be more mature and methodical than someone who was turned at 25 or 15. Not turning kids is a relative standard in most vampire media. When they are shown, the obvious pitfalls of their decreased emotional maturity are always shown in their actions. Funnily enough, the original Claudia (in the book) was actually 5 years old when she was turned. So, the portrayal in the movie with Cruise/Pitt/Dunst is more accurate than the tv show. But I'm not using that difference to disparate this remake. I think its amazing and cant wait for the second season.

    • @tdali8347

Meh. Kirsten Dunst played Claudia at 11, so closer to 14 year old TV Claudia than book Claudia. Bailey was 18 when production started; Louisiana child labor laws prohibit anyone younger keeping to the grueling night-work schedule this project demanded.

@@nininoona And I was explaining why the character had to be aged up to find an actress who comported with state law in order to film there. The fact of the story is that at 40 pounds, 70 pounds, and 90 pounds, every Claudia has been too frail to protect herself alone in the vampire world. We agree Kirsten and Bailey aren't 5. Can we also agree that they're both fantastic Claudias?
