    I always thought that the reason a lot of people didn't notice his eyes except for his sister was to show how they respect him. The white people who work for him and those whom he is trying to work with never fully show him the respect of looking him in the eyes, but his sister adores him and notices almost immediately.

    I love how dark this show is, honestly. We've seen enough sparkling, "vegetarian" or otherwise harmless and perfectly good vampires or villain vampires without a POV. But a story told by a vampire who was reluctant to embrace his nature and still participated in horrific things? That's the vampires I like to see: clearly removed from humanity, killers, some of them without remorse at all and yet also not so far removed that they don't care at all, still capable of love and enjoyment. The vampires in this show feel realistic, it's how I'd expect vampires to be if they actually existed.

    The thing you gotta remember is that you are seeing Lestat through the lenses of Louis, and Louis is an unrealiable narrator which Lestat calls him out on in his own books. So take everything in S1 with a grain of salt. Louis lies... even to himself sometimes, and he omits and edits events, and tries to control the narrative. Daniel is pretty good at calling him out on it as well, which you will see. After book 1, Lestat is actually the anti-hero of the series, not Louis. These two fight as hard as they love because they're almost complete opposites but in the end they are also soulmates, as toxic as it may be.
    Loving your reactions :)

      I've never watched the Hannibal television series. Although, I have watched all the movies. I have noticed that, my Twitter feed instantly became filled with Hannibal television series posts after I began engaging with Anne Rice's Interview with the Vampire. I still haven't watched Hannibal television series. I heard it didn't last that long. So I don't plan on watching it neither. I have wondered, though, what is the "parallel?" I don't think that Hannibal would have an explicitly gay romance like Lestat or Louis. So, unless they have, I don't understand what would be so relatable between the two shows. What is it?

    • @minhanhnguyen2213
      @minhanhnguyen2213 3 месяца назад +2

      @@PlayaP69 Well, Rollin (show runner) said he took a lot of inspiration from Hannibal, especially the murder family dynamics. I can't say further becoz it would be spoiler. Hannibal didn't have explicitly gay s*x (between the main pair but the lesbian pair did have s*x, marry) but the couple is canon and is called murder husbands. In the show, Hannibal, just like Lestat, try to make Will embrace murdering/become a monster like him. I highly recommend watching it if you like iwtv.
      Funny enough, the show runner of Hannibal - Bryan Fuller was working on an adaptation of the vampire chronicles in 2018 before Rollin. He dropped out of that project later.
      Bryan is a gay man. I truly felt Hannibal was a queer for queer show and I would serious consider that Hannibal walked so IWTV could run.

    Great reaction. Remember that there are 17 Vampire Chronicle novels. You are seeing the 1st part of the story. And it has to be taken into account that this is Louis version of reality. But it is obvious that Lestat and Louis had differing viewpoints on how to deal with being a Vampire. Louis always is described as the most "Human" of the Vampires. It is his greatest strength and at same time, biggest weakness in his existence as a Vampire. But Anne wrote these Characters this way..... This is very true to the source material. Lestat was a Monster. Anne did not hold back from showing us that. Thanks for all your great videos. You both really bring us along on your journey through these stories.

    Toxic Relationship is the understatement of the century. This is my fave reaction you all have done! Anne Rice's world is a wonderfully dark and compelling. She shows how the idealized view of "sexy vampires" is not what everyone thinks it would be. As for the pretending to be the valet while messed up for, they are deadly predators it makes sense to blend into the world around them so they can hunt and feed.

    Twilight is like watered down Anne Rice so comparing those vampires to this would be pointless. Louis is the most "human" of the Vampires in Anne Rice books because he has a lot of empathy and he clings to sadness. Lestat at this stage of the Vampire Chronicles is running away from a lot and for his own safety along with Louis is why he's very secretive.

    First of all, please don't joke about Twilight being your reference for vampire "rules" 😭
    I remember that this movie/book created by Anne Rice was a little more romanticised than the traditional vampire creature before, so it was innovative in many ways. The main character of her stories was always Lestat, i only remember Louis in this one book (interview with the vampire), where he talks about Lestat instead in the third person. But both in the books and movie, i remember Louis being the character more on the boring side because he didn't want to be a vampire and just continued to exist on this depressing state, while Lestat was the opposite. Especially in this world where vampires have more of an upper hand, he took full advantage of it. This version is more balanced, although i can't avoid recalling the original book/movie and how the story was told there, especially because Lestat looks very much the same here 😵‍💫 Sadly to me, Louis is still not different enough to be the main character that does more than telling the story of the fascinating "creature" Lestat.

    As much as I agree that Lestat is controlling (although remember the story is told through Louis’ lenses and he’s not exactly a reliable narrator), he was right about Louis having to wisely choose his victims. Navigating life as a new vampire is hard enough, you don’t wanna draw too much unnecessary attention to yourself. Lestat gave him a lot of good advice in that regard.

    Two things:
    1. Red flags you might have missed: Lestat isolated Louis by killing the two people he felt closest to, his brother and Lily. I know in my heart of hearts Lestat made Paul walk off that roof and that’s a hill I will die on. As religious as Paul was, he would have never committed suicide. I don’t care what the birds said to him lol.

      I feel like the movie wasn't gay enough when compared to the books. it was made explicit that Louis and Lestat had a 'romantic' relationship, especially in 'The Vampire Lestat' (the second book) but in the movie, it was more implicit. Still valid since queer media and culture are already so shrouded in implicit and hinted queerness but for the theme of the channel, I think the show is better suited since it portrays a more complex and in-depth representation of queerness.
