- I always have people ask me "how do I get my dog to stop running out the door?" This video will teach you how to train your dog to not run out the door. We do this with every single dog we interact with. It's so easy to do, and it's so necessary! Often times we don't even need the food reward, getting to eventually go through the door is often a huge reward when they want out and there's no access to treats. I always like to use a hand signal first, and a word as supplement, so that not only do they have to watch me to know when they can go out the door, but there's no risk of them accidentally hearing a release word.
It is so easy.....but I hear people say it takes to much time.....but as you can see...

GREAT how you emphasized the concept of a "magic word" when speaking to us so as not to confuse Katana! As someone who constantly says "OK" to herself at all times of the day, you have shown me to either pick a different release word or break myself of the habit. Thanks from all of us who have been "dazed and confused" in our dog training efforts over the years. The common sense and straightforward ways you explain training techniques coupled with realistic expectation information is a godsend! 🥰
I’m glad you have a RUclips! I’d love to see a vid for help with “off” & “heel” for my two very boisterous black labradors who are 2 yrs old. They’re great with the other commands but get WAY too crazy around other people & dogs. Unfortunately, covid limited our time to train around people & dogs, which makes it hard to train. They’re angels for me on our own but as soon as someone else (people or dogs) are around, they get wild for the first several minutes of the experience.

I always used a Sit or Down command to prevent boisterous behavior. Then on leash, and Easy or Gentle command with immediate removal if they start to be too rough. I can stop stranger dogs with an uptight body, a finger point: and a “schists” sound.. And I turn my back on dogs pawing me or jumping on me.

Gonna use this one for sure. We have a door dasher and even tho he comes right back, I feel like it's still not good. We allow him out the back door into his fenced in secure area, but he thinks front door is the same freedom...

I just discovered your videos today and have started watching them in preparation for bringing home our new puppy in 2 weeks.
I have only watched 2 videos so far, but your approach reminds me a lot of Ian Dunbar, whose books I read with our last dog. Everything he recommended worked perfectly, and usually right from the first attempt, so I am pretty sure that your approach will be equally effective.

Sure would be worth this very small amount of time spent training vs time spent searching and worrying. I've found 2 huskies in my yard. Lo and behold, one of the owners found us via fb post and he had found the dog himself running down the highway.
This reminds me of something I tried over 30 years ago with a car chasing dog and another that chased bicycles. I knew nothing about dog behavior so I looked at it as just not cooperating with the dogs actions. When the barking dog ran at me like he was going to bite my tires, I would just stop my car or get off my bicycle opposite of the dog. The dog would stand there barking for a minute, then start to walk away. Then I would start moving and the dog would come after me again. I would stop again and wouldn't move until the dog starting walking away. The dogs would quickly lose interest in the chase. Until the next time. But I would repeat the steps and after a couple of sessions, they would barely even look my way I passed by.
We had to switch out lever door handles for knobs because Jaxon and Nikki both taught themselves how to open door. Jax then learned how to turn a deadbolt to lock us out! Gotta love Huskies! 😍🐺❤️🍑
Ok so I followed what you did and it was working I was amazed she didn’t try to go even when door wide open, but then I had to get my keys and hurriedly move my car and she tried to run off as soon as I had my keys in my hand. Do I do it again with keys in my hand next time and should I do this every day till she doesn’t dash

Mr Brandon, - I to am a dog trainer but I have a bit of a problem, I have implemented the door dash training but me problem is this, I'm a paraplegic so I'm having a problem with the part of where the pup is to go out the door.
When I open the door the pup will sit beautiful until I get about half way through the door then he tries to squeeze through with me still in the doorway.
Could you give me a pointer on how I can correct this behavior, I am training me own pup who is a ACD.
Do the other members of the pack try to butt in while you're training a specific dog?
What treats do you use or do you use just Kebbel?
What kind of treats do you reward when training? Is it their dog food? or certain treats?
I think I have seen him use a brand called Lucy, but any treat your dog likes (try to get a healthy one) would work. Brandon also says that if your dog is not motivated by treats, try a favorite toy instead.
This works with a chihuahua. We have the dog in our house but I don't want her in my room and I did this and now she just comes by my door and goes back the other way.
I have a question for you! I have adopted a little dog who’s on the older side of the scale (just couldn’t stand to see him with grey hair in a shelter). Is it possible to train him still since he’s older? Will I have problems with that? I’ve been trying to crate train him and he’s nipped me a few times (didn’t break the skin or anything but pressure was applied on his end) so I’ve been doing my best to train him. Not giving up though! Just wondering if there’s a better way I should be going about it?
I don't see any of your training for reactive dogs somebody told me to check out your site because you're amazing but I can't find anything for a prey dog that is reactive

I have 5 husky-type dogs. Pomskies seem to be worse for running out the door. My husky could care less. But pomskies are bad for running. 🥴

I have two, one who’s happy to learn but insanely silly and the other is a bit ignorant 😂 when I try teach the ignorant one, the silly one gets all excited and body slams us both, so I’d like to know the answer to this too...
