Will Pittsburgh be a hub again? The present airport was nice and not that old. It was intended to have a public mall until 911 ruined that. How long will rebuild take? I hate flying now. I used to love it. How will cost of travel be impacted. If I have to ask I can’t afford it.
@@gregsim2 Hi @gregsim2, Pittsburgh International Airport’s new terminal is set to open in October 2025, aiming to improve passenger experience with modern amenities and streamlined security. While the $1.57 billion project is funded partly by airlines, which could affect ticket prices, the upgrades are designed to make travel smoother and more enjoyable and add the opportunity to add daily flights.
@@livinginpittsburghpa Been watching your videos since last year before moving here in PA from the Philippines. Helps us a lot in finding a good and affordable place near Pit.
My first flight was out of the old terminal in 1983 (moon). It turns out after watching the new terminal be built around 1993 And flying in and out of it so many times I’ve lost count (I think I’ve got frequent flyer miles on the tram😂) I have now outlived the new terminal. Now I am watching the NEW NEW terminal being built looking forward to flying out of it on my next adventure. I must admit I do find it a shame that new public buildings are boring, unimaginative, ugly, and don’t even last 50 years😢 before they’re torn down and replaced by something even more utilitarian.🤦♂️
@@palmlimit9297 my first flight was out of that old airport! I cannot believe I am 50 years old and this is the third Pittsburgh airport I have seen! I had not even thought of that!

@@JBG1968 I agree!!! Spring and Fall are my favorites! Late spring so nicer weather and everything’s blooming. Mid fall so leaves still have color and look beautiful. But spring April to early June is the best!! 👏🏻
Thanks for sharing your thoughts! While not everyone might have been asking for it, the new airport upgrades are bringing some exciting changes-more modern amenities, enhanced traveler experience, and infrastructure designed to meet future needs. @@livinginpittsburghpa Faster security lines and no Tram is definitely a bonus. I just think we could have gotten by with our current airport, which I felt was fine for the number of flights we have a day. Hopefully this makes us a candidate for a hub.
@@mae2759 no tram equals fewer gates so there goes the hub theory. The tram was there because it was originally designed as US airways hub and they needed the gate space.
@@palmlimit9297 Yeah I heard they're going from 75 gates to 51. The main reason I heard for building it was that the tram costs $1M per year in maintenance. Then they gave the buzz phrase "the terminals have reached the end of their useful life", but they never explained what that means. I think the new airport is a waste of money, but hopefully I'm proven wrong. It's definitely made my tickets more expensive.

Higher real estate values =higher school and property taxes.Seniors and long time residents become the losers
