This is one of the best introductions to "The Burgh" that I've seen. I grew up here, but over the years also lived in Miami, Ft. Lauderdale, Naples, West Palm Beach (all over Florida), Washington DC, Baltimore Maryland, and Richmond Virginia. I traveled to and spent time in forty-six of the fifty states. My wife grew up in Kansas City Missouri, and lived in Chicago and DC, where we met. We retired in 2009 and began to travel, trying to figure out where we wanted to put down roots. A lot of people assume that I dragged my wife back to where I grew up, but actually she is the one who said, "How about Pittsburgh?!" We bought our house in Dormont, a suburb on the south edge of the city in 2010. Mainly because my wife never found a friendlier place. We love our home and have great neighbors. My wife says that she has never had so many good friends as she does here. My opinion is that Pittsburgh doesn't have strangers, just friends that you have yet to meet. I'm glad that you enjoyed yourself here.
Same! It grew on me and slowly I began to realise all the advantages it offers. Our fam moved here 3 years ago. It's great, I'm so happy to be here and I can't wait for the brand new airport to open it's going to be amazing. I'm a proud Pittsburgher now :)
✌🏼👍🏼😁I worked on a movie with Jason Momoa that was shot completely in Pittsburgh. When I heard that's when we were shooting I was disappointed. However, I made the travel over to Pittsburgh to do the job and I was pleasantly surprised. Pittsburgh is a wonderful city with lots to see and do people are so cool. Some of the nicknames are the city of Bridges, the city of rivers the steel city. The best time to go there is in the spring and late fall. After working here for a couple of months it's one of the places my husband and I do a short three or four day get away to.
Pittsburgh has come a long way since it was a polluted steel manufacturing town in the early 1900s, and transforming itself and the region into the Rust Belt from the Steel Belt in the early 1980s. The region lost about four decades as it sorted itself out. And while areas like the Strip District got remade and gentrified (for the better), the regional culture endured. The city has very old bones, which goes a long way in remaking itself for the 21st century. I moved from Dallas to Pittsburgh in 2011, sight unseen, just because the features and attributes were so good overall. The city is still on the mend, but I don't regret the move for one moment. Hopefully the city won't get _too_ popular, because it's still voted one of "The Most Livable City" for a lot of reasons, by both Forbes and The Economist.
@JetLagWarriors that'd great! Imagine taking the bus for Hari Raya open house hopping, with your road trip buddies @KenAbroad @Travelgramers and @DodoExplorers 🚌💨💨💨
Pittsburgh is highly underrated. I grew up about 2.5 hours north of Pittsburgh but my mom was originally from just outside of Pittsburgh and my younger brother had cancer and Pittsburgh Childrens Hospital was his care taker. Basically as a child we spent a lot of time down there but only got to see bits and pieces as the focus was on my brother. Fast forward time and I could almost pick my next duty station, when I was stationed in Korea, and I chose Ft Bragg (now Ft Liberty) because at the time Raleigh NC was constantly being hyped in magazines and Bragg was only 1.5 hours away. Let's just say Raleigh had nothing on Pittsburgh, not even comparable and that was with me only seeing Pittsburgh in a limited fashion at that point. Fast forward time again and my parents have moved to Pittsburgh and I'm about 3 hours away. But now when I visit I'm able to explore as much as possible and my oldest daughter now attends Duquesne as she fell in love with the city with our many visits. I'm closer to Buffalo than Pittsburgh but find myself down there far more often. I've driven down there just to eat and return back home. The food is amazing. The zoo is excellent and my favorite zoo, the museums are great, and so on. Outdoor activities are just minutes away as well.
America is truly incredible! It’s beautiful, well-organized, and Pittsburgh stands out as especially stunning-so clean and picturesque. The food here looks absolutely delicious too; I can’t wait to try that amazing sandwich one day! Please keep sharing more great videos about America. I’m eagerly waiting to watch them!
Thank u guy's 4 showing off our great city. It has definitely changed over the years, from Steel to a high tech center. And great medical research center. Please come back 4 a Pirates or Steelers game.❤
Welcome back! So nice being part of your adventures again, now with your precious daughter. I´m from Sao Paulo, Brazil and learned to admire your brave, sometimes rough, tourism. Your comments on our country, particularly our dishes, are so genuine and sincere - some were humble restaurants, with unicque food! ps: that sandwich looks delicious, but too big for Ivana's delicate mouth! 😜😘
We really hope to roadtrip Brazil one day in our big bus, although we don’t know if it is possible yet… still a bit of a dream lol. We have such good memories of Brazil. And thanks for your support! At the very least, we will park the bus and fly back to Brazil for a week or two. 👍
Love that fact that you found the great Pittsburgh treasure, the people! Next time, give us a shout. Would love to have you on our radio show re: your comments.
Yeah, woo! Pittsburgh was a great stop for us... our first real travel vlog with Jean. The weather was not great but we managed and built some confidence that we can do this :) . P.S I am coming back to Duolingo... I swear !!
Hello JetLag, how are you? I am a regular viewer of your RUclips channel. I have seen all your videos and your content qualities are very good. how much I enjoy your video content. - "Your channel always leaves me excited for the next upload!"Good Luck
I love this.Thank you guys for coming to the US.I am so glad the baby (cutie pie) doing great on the travels too.I am Steelers fan ,for about 19 years( originally from Oradea, living in Las Vegas) I hope to see you guys if you make it to Las Vegas. And yes we got a driveway and extra room too🤗😊
Shoutout to Oradea! We have good memories of that place. We really love Romania ❤️❤️. We won’t make it to LV on this particular trip but, maybe in the new year, we will take you up on your offer 🥰
Thanks for watching! We figure Malaysians enjoy watching U.S.A travel vlogs, because our Malaysian audience is coming back strong. That’s good, we missed you all 🥰🥰. Thanks for watching!
You definitely need to travel down there again just to do one thing. The best view in the entire city is to come from the south through the Fort Pitt Tunnels at night. As soon as you exit the tunnel and get hit with the skyline it is breath taking. Even for people who have spent their entire lives living there. That being said out of all the cities I have lived in or visited in the US, Portland, OR and Pittsburgh are my two favorites.
The Duquesne incline is like the Penang hill?! Yoo but the carriage is much more vintage!! Do you still edit the videos Steve cause i dont know how you manage between driving, taking care of the baby and editing+shooting. Pittsburgh seems awesome and so many bridges. At some point you gotta wonder when is it too much bridge? Jean is gonna be the most well travelled baby by the end of the month lol
Yep, I still do all the editing myself 👍. Ivana and I are both pretty busy, but we enjoy it and we think we can keepp with our Tuesday-Thursday-Saturday video release schedule. And yes! Jean is gonna be a well traveled baby… she already saw 13 countries before she was even born 😋
at Primanti's you said you pickle was a Pittsburghg salad. there actually a dish called a Pittsburgh salad. Its a salad topped with french fries and a protein ( usually chicken or beef)
@@JetLagWarriorsHi! I'm a native of Pittsburgh and so glad you enjoyed our beautiful little city! The original Primanti's operated to efficiently feed the many 'still' workers in the mills on the 'Saathside' who didn't have much time to eat. (Hoping after Mr Robot's Pittsburghese lesson that you get all the 'words' that I use!) 😂 When I was a starving college student at Duquesne University, a few of us would scrape our coins together so that we could get a Salisbury steak sammich from Primanti's (You should see how big that 1 is!). Even shared amongst 3, we'd be good for a day or so! I laughed out loud when you mentioned my favorite Penguins from when I was in college! My roommate was also a crazy hockey fan & when guys would ask our dorm extension, we'd simply say 'Jagr Lemieux'! If they didn't get the reference or couldn't translate it to x6866, we most certainly didn't want to hang out with guys who weren't hockey fans! I almost feel badly about that! 🙊😂 Thank you for the good memories! I live out of state now, and this video did my heart a world of good this evening! Enjoy your travels with your beautiful family! West Virginia is gorgeous, the country cooking is comforting and yummy, and the people are kind and friendly. Try to find an out of the way diner or a truckstop, especially if you're further south. The food and accents in those places will make you smile!
This makes sense…. I guess we will find lots of good cities for tourism in the upcoming months but… Pittsburgh may end up standing out! Really beautiful cityscape, especially from the incline
Maybe you didn't know but Mr Rogers, Gene Kelly, Andy Warhol are native Pittsburgers. I would have loved to show you around Pittsburgh but while you were there I was in the hospital having open heart surgery. If you come back give me a call. FYI I am Asian and my daughter is married to a wonderful Irish guy and have 3 beautiful grandchildren. Your daughter is beautiful like my grandkids
I have to admit, guys, I took the fries out and put them on the side to make it more manageable. Heresy, maybe, but Hey! That same weather blasted thru here (DC) yesterday. Think Lake Erie/Ontario effect moisture. Nice stop, guys, keep on rolling👍😊
Yeah, we left Ontario and brought the weather with us 🤪. It’s now day 8 of our trip and we think it’s the first day with decent weather! Not complaining, this is all part of life on the road!
Hi guys, we've been following you guys for a while now, we live in Cleveland Ohio. Will you guys stop by Cleveland? We would like to invite you guys to a dinner or lunch. We love you guys very much, plus with the little cutie pie ❤. My husband also from Canada. We would love to meet you guys if you stop by Cleveland.
I wanted to move there, but I keep seeing people being murdered, and lots of crime on youtube. But then I see videos like this and it looks nice, not sure what to make of it all?
people are leaving for good reason. They have to pay a city income tax in some counties. Pay up to 3 different property taxes and those are expensive. Not sure how PA calculates average pay but most are below poverty level, And you have to pay the highest toll road fees to travel. That also hurts companies who need the roads to transport products. Great video!!! 10 stars Continue to learn so much history through your travels. Jean seems to be doing great travelling!
So far, so good with baby Jean :) . Looks like our raising-a-baby-in-a-bus-on-youtube idea will work after all :D
Totally agree! Such a fantastic video and an amazing way to learn history through travels! 🌟🌍

Not just the most bridges of any other US city, but any city in the world, even more than Venice.
Whoaa home of the Steelers! watching your video brought back so much memories. Duquesne University alumni here

Wow Pittsburgh is now on my bucket list. Awesome video
High crime, homeless everywhere, people pooping on sidewalks. However daily snow removal helps keep sidewalks much cleaner than the summer.
I been to Pittsburgh your right about the crime. Overall the city from what I saw was meh, Cincinnati is probably a little nicer maybe.
@@michaeladams5636 I agree Cincy much better

The key to a Primanti's sammich is to eat it on-site because they don't travel well.

It was very very different compared to now. I last went there about 2 years ago.
I'm from Pittsburgh and I am offended that you thought it was in Ohio! 😆 Anyway, nice video and I'm glad you had a good time.
Oh my bad! I think it's because of Steelers - Browns rivalry. Well, Pittsburgh is awesome 😊
