Top two choices were 2019 ES ultra Luxury pkg with all options for 48k after rebates, or 2019 Audi A6 for 65k after rebates. Went for Audi because just wanted something different this time. Immediately regretted decision in first week . Bluetooth phone gets disconnected randomly, auto headlights sometimes stays on even though bright daylight, lower touch screen stopped working after 3rd day and had to do factory reset, and Now, constant creaks and popping noise on sunroof where have to take down headliner to correct. Like Steve has stated, Lexus should consult Hyundai/Kia On making a good infotainment system. Look at the Genesis brand.... simple controls. Lexus lost its original simple to use controls.
OMG. Steve. Thank you so much for mentioning the range. I can't thank you enough. People always talk about range in the context of plug-in vehicles. Everyone should be talking about the range on a tank of gas. I think this might influence peoples perceptions of plug-in's not having a long-enough range.
Great Honest Review Steve. I agree. This hybrid should be used in the Camry/Avalon version of this TNGA-K platform. Also, Lexus should have taken this redesign to offer AWD to separate this car further from the Avalons and Camrys of the world.
@@76carmel LaCrosse offers torque vectoring AWD that the Lexus ES does not. The Buick actually sends power to the outside rear wheel in a turn where Lexus and Toyota AWD, traverse engines systems only offer brake-based torque vectoring.
As a Lexus owner I have to say I am disappointed with this car. I think they sent you a stinker of a color to test which is the first thing I noticed. It doesn't set itself apart from its Toyota brother very much either. You sounded mostly "meh" about this one Steve and I can see why. I am certainly interested to see what you think of the new LS.
That has always been the case for the ES, it has always looked nearly identical to the camry just like the LX570 is identical to the Toyota Landcruiser. The difference is in 2018, the Camry has so much tech it makes this very hard to pay up for
@@onoff314 The new Camry is much nicer than ever before, but it is NOT a Lexus. Noisy, poorer ride quality, cheaper materials inside and out...it's not the same car. But more important: why anybody makes a determination about a car like that without driving it first is beyond me.
Lexus needs a dedicated department to make their infotainment better. With today's cars being so intertwined with their on board digital interfaces, having a shitty UI/UX will just turn people away. Especially when people know what real good UI/UX is from just having smartphones.
I have personally been an ES fan since the beginning of it's life. That said, the 2013 redo went off the rails. I hate the 'cross-eyed' look of the front end. The 2016 facelift helped immensely. The new ES is easy on the eyes, as they say. I especially like this Sunlit Green color, not my usual color choice, but seems tasteful and will look nice for years to come. Overall, however, Lexus has lost credibility points for me because of their styling. I really dislike the spindle grill that they've integrated into their line. Seems to me that they are experiencing a but of an identity crisis. Are they a luxury car or a sports car or a sport-lux car or a CUV/SUV line? I prefer the former... I see s Lexus as a luxury car. That's nothing to be ashamed of. Someone has to do it! Cadillac has lost much of it's (older) following because of the sharp, art and science design. Lincoln is, in my eyes, the only automaker that still coddles it's buyers with sumptuous luxury. They are, as the kids say, "killing it". Having sporty vehicle in your line is fine. But for the love of my backside and my eyes... Lexus, please go back to the '90's and '00's styling. Should you do this, you will gain a following that used to be loyal to Cadillac.
It looks sweet tho, it’s more preferable for elders or people that are not that interested in adrenaline or much exiting physics or luxuries it’s more for a calm personality.
Lexus seems to be stuck in a Chris Bangle era like BMW was for a while. Older models were classy, now they're hideously gaudy and over styled. I hope Lexus goes back to it's roots.
Had it for one week while my was GSF sport was in for a sunroof issue. Let me be straight forward. If you never drove the GS. You might like like this other wise forget it. And annoying . If This is their answer to the future when they eventually get rid of the GS, I WILL FIND another manufacturer. Clearly a step in the wrong direction for me
Gas $8/gallon?? Try $2 in Chicago and $4 in Cali. Where are you finding $8 ?? Anyway, the 580 mile range of the hybrid means only 1 fill up for my annual Chicago to NYC drive. Pretty cool

As always, a great review. I guess this car is ok if you really don't care much or just want the badge. That price point for me, though, is "dream car" territory, and this car does nothing ("on paper" anyway) to make me feel that it's special. A red Mazda 6 brings more sense of occasion to the act of looking at, driving, and interacting with one's car, and would leave a few thou in my pocket. These Lexuses and Toyotas are just plain too ugly for me. I know that's subjective, but sheesh...
