Caroline Myss - The Critic (The Power of Archetypes)

- Hi, Everybody -
It's time for another archetype video. This week, I am doing the critic, a cousin to the judge, but not quite; it has its own characteristics.
When you hear critic, the tendency is to think of being critical or someone who criticizes. The greater aspect of the critic is to be discerning and clear in your evaluation of something beyond any personal bias. However, when we are critical by nature, by archetypal pattern, it has many drawbacks. It can limit your capacity to understand another person more deeply or be open to new ideas and places.
One of the most challenging parts of the critic in the shadow is the inner critic. When your inner critic has completely taken over, and you don't have the clarity to trust yourself, this becomes a significant spiritual crisis.
You won't recognize how we are all in this together, that compassion is the opposite of criticism, and that the simplest acts of kindness make all the difference in the world.
I hope you enjoy this, everybody. I'll see you next week.
Love,
Caroline

Carolyn, through reading your books, You've taught me one prayer that had helped: Lord, make me an instrument of your peace: where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; where there is sadness, joy. I have attempted to practice that when others could not. I am allowed to make space to be me in this world. I'm not dead yet. Thank you for your words.
i have that prayer framed on my wall in two places in my house 😊
Ive been riddled with this myself, heard beautiful advice by teal swan where she said dont try to find your purpose, follow your happiness and purpose will unravel
Thank you, Caroline. So right on time.. and nourishing.

Thank you Caroline! These videos are so helpful in the understanding of my life and others!
This was so timely! I had my first reflection back in an obvious way that really shook my core. It was a reflection of something I said that bounced right back at me. It provided an opportunity to acknowledge, accept, and release that negative energy. I completely agree with your likeness to "freezing someone or something" out. Good stuff.
You are such a gift to this world. Thank you for showing up!
I really like your description of 'freezing'. Great concept and description of the shadow side of the critic.

In the philosophy of Yoga, the Buddhism practice (Ahimsa) recommends Non Judgement also known as Non Violence. I believe it’s because judgements are of the mind, not necessary based on truth. Criticism makes it worse because we express the misconceptions because then we create the consequences (through the act of criticizing). We create a “cause” rightly or wrongly and so we are then exposing ourselves to karma (that we cannot control). This is the sufferings and caused by our lack of self control. What I found interesting is that even Jesus were documented to have said, “It is not what you put into your mouth that is dangerous but what comes out of it”. If you understand who you truly are, you will be able to see that what you do, you do to yourself therefore all actions (criticism for example), is towards yourself thus the karma of this cause can only come back to you. The problem with people nowadays is they dwell a lot in the world outside of themselves through constant engagements not realizing that the engagements is with nothing more than their own delusions. I don’t know how to explain other than to be careful what comes out of your mouths as it’s is essentially to yourselves.
Always a pleasure to listen to you
Thank you so much Caroline!as always great wisdom

You describe my mother.
Please what to do when you lost in life and wondering why am i here on earth , what is my purpose 😢😢😢??
Joy
Work on your life force
Ask your inner guides and self. Do what makes you feel fulfilled. Don't give up. You're not alone in your challenge. Just keep asking and exploring what makes you happy.
If I were you, I would choose some way to interact with/serve people (or other beings) who are suffering -- help in a soup kitchen, volunteer at a hospice, do art with kids who have been affected by violence, assist in an animal shelter -- put your question to rest for a while and spend time in an environment where your presence could make a difference and see what happens.
The way to find your purpose is to not find it. Instead, let your purpose find you. Just focus on having fun and being present and it will show up when you least expect it.
Thank you
There are people such as your friend who only eats a few foods and are not open to trying new experiences, who have sensory processing issues. These neurological differences can cause fixed and inflexible traits and overly sensitive sensory receptors. I've met those who will only wear cotton, can't have labels on shirts touching their neck, only eat soft food. These are also autistic traits and a person can be on a continuum of autism with mild sensory disorders and inflexibility.
Criticism is refinement
My mother has diminished the Critic in me because of her inability to receive judgement. I have made so many poor choices because of my suppressed discernment… :/
It is in my nature to be an excellent Judge. I wish I didn’t default in suppressing it because it’s “wrong” to be so critical.

💚💙💜💛🙏🙏🙏🙏
Uh oh 😮
Once a week…sugar😂🤣😂
Carolyn you belong to the classic "Critic Archetype" which you just have explained. Is that the larger role "Soul" as you define Archetype. Or is it just your egoic thought pattern..Can't you see your whole theory about archetypal patterns is wrong
And YOU don’t embody the critic? Re-read your comment. It’s hilarious.
