In Malaysia we have what we called "Musang King" which is probably the most expensive durians due to its savory and sweet flavor.

There's gas and strong smell that'll turn away first timers. Then when you get used to its smell that's where you can taste the sweet, tangy, slightly bitter taste of it. So like most smelly fruits, you need to get past the smells before you can objectively taste its taste.

@@MollyHJohns Dare? It’s not that serious. Fresh is best, but I personally can’t think of any imported fruit I’ve had that is not still tasty after being imported, so it’s not unusual for ppl to expect the same of durian.
@@BijinMCMXC Most fruits are harvested like 80% ripe, and it will ripen while being shipped overseas
And it's not like that with durian, the best durian are the one that is ripe and fall by itself from the tree.
And if you ship it overseas, it will rot itself before reaching customer
Durian is high on sugar and given it's flesh is fully protected, the inside will become fermented, hence the "funky" taste

I agree with you , as malaysian south east asia had been practicing eating durian for generation and genrations had it before our ancestors that why durian its had been delicious and our tastebud been enchaned .

Their durian isn't fresh, look at how pliable the skin is when he pulls it open. No doubt it was frozen and thawed out for months for oversea exportation, so that might explain the rancid taste 😅
