    Being almost 60 years old and arthritic. I've dropped my moto z a good number of times. After 5 years it finally bit the dust the last time I dropped it. In all fairness it did numerous cartwheels before it came to a rest completely shattered. I started off with the original moto flip back in the 90s. Since that time I've had Nokia's Samsung's and the apple 4. I find that Motorola is still the phone manufacturer for me. I'm patiently waiting for my new edge plus to arrive.

      @@dej353 One feature I really enjoy using is the fingerpritn scanner in the power button. It's accurate and fast to unlock. I believe this is an underrated feature on a phone since it's pretty cool to have an on-screen fingerprint scanner. It also has face unlock and works well.
      My Edge+ comes with 8GB of Ram, but a software feature allows you add an additional 2GB of Ram that is taken from storage capacity. In total, my phone is running with 10GB of Ram, which is plentiful for a flagship phone today.

    Some charging bricks can go up to 100 watts! That might be expensive. You did a great job on this video for this phone. It's expensive but it has pretty cool features in it like you forgot the feature in the camera, being the "Slow Motion" one. I bought a Moto Edge 5G in 2020, and I've loved it! I've been starting to shop for it's replacement, and, I have been absolutely disgusted that most phone makers are doing away with SD card slots, and 3.5 mm jacks! There aren't a lot of options in high-end phones that still have at least the SD support, if not a 3.5 mm jack! I was pretty much down to considering a Sony Xperia 5 IV, or a ASUS Zenfone 8 Flip! After some thought, I have grudgingly came to the conclusion that, as long as the phone has at least 256 GB, and preferably 512GB internal, it should be enough. I just hate being arbitrarily limited! And now, that this phone is selling for $499.99, I am seriously giving it another look!

      All of the brands you mention for Android phones are available in the USA, but many don't work on the creaking old Verizon network. The USA market is a funny mix of enthusiasts who buy unlocked phones from anyplace they find a deal, to those who slavishly buy only from their carrier and limit their choices to what the carrier offers.

    I switched to this from S21. Moto is superior for what I want. It's just more intuitive. I bought a Pixel 4 XL for $109 from Ebay and sent it to Verizon for $700 off. I got mine for $290 total as a result. I prefer the fast snappy screen, more plastic older gorilla glass which is flexible and won't crack and break when you drop it (phone is also in a case so I don't care about colors). The phone is just the perfect almost pure Android experience. It's too bad it won't sell well because it's better than flagship Samsung from a usability standpoint.

      I completely agree as I had an S21 Ultra that cant utilize USB-C to HDMI or outgoing video of any kind, and the Motorola phone does! Its built waaaaay better in the durability department. I miss the camera on my S21 Ultra, but this phone is literally better in every other way. Also unlocking the phone through the developer options, there are ways to port it to any major network, you just need to know what you are doing and possibly install some software, but it is possible.

      Because Motorola allows you to unlock your bootloader and load whatever android OS you want on your phone.
      And it's not like this is 2004. The process has become "click/drag" easy. It's not complicated anymore for the manufacturers who don't actively make it that way.

    I really liked everything about the budget Moto G phone I had- especially the software. It was an excellent phone all around, the only downside was basically the budget aspects of the phone (screen, sound quality) which was no means a problem considering the phone cost $150.
    I think Motorola is extremely underrated and is doing a great job at making cellphones as they have for years.
    Only reason I'm not upgrading is my OnePlus 7T is still going strong, and even after 3 years the tech in phones has not improved enough for me to justify an upgrade (in some cases, it has gone backwards). Ex- many phones now have 1080p screens in base models (even though my 2017 LG G6 ($500) had a 2K screen), same or less RAM, many still having 128GB storage, etc. This phone does stand out as it says screw you to the flagships keeping 3 cameras to the ultra 'premium' phones, even though for years androids had 3 cameras in midrange. Now manufacturers (Apple) basically gatekeep with the 3 cameras as a reason to buy premium phones.

    The thing you said about the left edge of the screen squaring off in landscape mode? It's like that because of the camera hole, and there's a place in the phone's developer settings where you can turn that "feature" off, and then the screen will stay rounded at both ends. At least this was true for the 2020 model, so I'd expect it would also be true for the 2022 model.

    Thankfully, the bloatware is Verizon bloatware, I assume. The phone has a pretty clean Android otherwise. The updated Ready For is also a big deal for me, it's the best desktop mode for an Android out there - yes, better than Dex, as far as I can tell. Samsung needs to up their game if they want people to consider Dex the gold standard for very much longer. There's also a straight up mistake or omission in the review - the phone can handle a whopping 68 watts fast charging which is pretty spectactular for speed charging. The brick you get with it is just 33 watts. But if you can find a 68 watt source, the phone will ingest it. Also, with regards to Ready For.... I think that feature alone puts this way above the Pixel, but furthermore, the Pixel has no video output on the USB-C *at all*, and apparently on purpose. That alone instantly eliminates it for me, personally.

    • @xanderunderwoods3363
      @xanderunderwoods3363 Год назад +1

      Yes I wish more people would realize that not having video output through usb-c prevents you from doing things like Studio recording, which is kind of one of their selling points with their camera! I'm so glad Motorola does this!

  • @frankseydel9428
    @frankseydel9428 2 года назад +7

    Motorola..I like them to be back in the premium market but yes, they still need to step up on the camera software. I don't think it's with the sensors but what the phone does with the data available..and there's Google's Pixel phones which take the cake. But I learned Motorola's Desktop approach has become better and is in some ways even ahead of Samsung Dex. I am observing this closely because my dream would be in everything just being dependent on Android without having to fall back to Windows or any other OS. And besides that, yeah, I'll never leave it unmentioned:
    To all you phone manufacturers out there, would you please give back to us our headphone jack! Please! I would care more about it than about a waterproof phone. Yet I know you could do both.

      I'm also holding out on buying a new phone because manufacturer s taking away the headphone jack is an atrocity. They did it to sell Bluetooth headsets plain and simple. It's anti consumer, and I hate the Android followed suite after Apple.

    That is a tough sell, $1000 pre-deals, seems way out there. With no zoom, this is more like mid-tier, that $500-700 segment, competing with the Pixel 6, S21FE, etc. I suppose in a month or so it will drop to that price as demand and supply equalise, but knowing Motorolas software update record it would remain a hard buy for me.

    While they do include a fast charger in the box, it's not the fastest the phone can do. It comes with a 30W charger but the phone is capable of 68W with an additional charger that comes to the tune of a whopping $60 extra purchase. OnePlus includes a charger in the box with their 9/9 Pro and 10 Pro devices and it's the maximum 65W the device is capable of in the US.

It has been my eperience that most of what people critique about the differences in cameras is based on specs and not what the human eye can really notice or what most people care about. I take personal photo and I don't need professional results. The plastic part did bother me and I received conflicting info on the 5G compatibility. I hear the One + 10 Pro can't do 5G on AT&T either. Anyway, ultimately I decided to not get the phone. Pixel is intriguing but I see a lot of reviewers expressing long term use issues and advising to wait for the 7.

    • @AI-Consultant
      @AI-Consultant Год назад

      The Motorola Edge Plus (2022) is water-resistant, but it is not fully waterproof. It has an IP54 rating, which means it can withstand splashes and dust, but it is not designed to be submerged in water. So you can safely use it in the rain or in damp environments, but you shouldn't take it swimming or into the shower.
      It's important to note that water resistance can decrease over time, so it's a good idea to avoid exposing the phone to water whenever possible.

      Dave - one reason to get the Motorola vs Samsung is that you don't need to deal with all of the Samsung crapware and Samsung "account" that consumes a lot of memory and allows Samsung to track your every move. And the Samsung One UI + Bixby can't be deleted. Motorola phones are pure Android, which is a huge selling point for the otherwise crippled Pixel phones.

It's kind of like the difference between a Toyota that might not be that fancy but it's going to be with you in the long run, versus a Cadillac that's got all kinds of cool bells and whistles but it's going to spend a lot of time in the shop because of poor build quality. Thanks, Patrick for the review. The question with any Motorola phone is, how many years of OS and Security Updates will the consumer be receiving? This has been a huge disappointment for me, with the Moto G Power 2020, just one OS Update, and not even two years of Security Updates. At this price point, I would need at least 3 OS Updates and 4 Years of Security Updates. Also, the audio needs to be very good, the screen needs to be much brighter. The bloatware is a concern, as well. I will need to think about this. Thanks, CNET.

    Very nice video and a very nice phone. It's good to see there are price ranges or person can get an excellent phone without having to go broke or make too many extended payments. The only way a person can tell a difference between most of these phones as if it side-by-side or they have technical knowledge such as you have. The edge Plus would be perfect for the person that has a limited budget but wants to buy high-quality phone that can last them for 3 to 5 years. I mean unless you know the definition of noise and what it looks like the average person isn't even going to notice the distortions in photos let alone compared The edge Plus with an iPhone or Samsung flagship. If you buy this phone you're getting a high-quality device with great charging speed it all the features the average person could use. One thing I do wonder about is that on pages with Motorola it seems like they're usually in Spanish so I don't know if this phone is more popular with spanish-speaking people than others? I mean Motorola headquarters is here in Chicago USA so I don't know what gives.?I can honestly say that if I have a limited budget and need a new 5G phone right now and have the money I would have no problems buying the edge Plus and being proud to own it. Your video was entertaining and informative and much you have a friend in Columbus Ohio:-)
