Fun Fact: Ann & Nancy Wilson are sisters, they wrote this song as an angry response to their record label spreading false scandalous rumors about them, saying that Ann & Nancy were secretly lovers (which obviously wasn't true) just as a marketing ploy to increase album sales. This made the sisters so mad that they wrote this song to tell off, rebuke & reprimand these record label agents, calling them "barracudas" (a predator fish known for their deliberately cruel temperament & vicious behavior).
Absolutely right. Heard Ann talk about it in an interview. And hence lyrics such as this: No right, no wrong you're selling a song, a name Whisper game And if the real thing don't do the trick You better make up something quick I have so crushed on these two power musicians (in a healthy way) for the last 47 years or so.
I must add, I grew up in the 70's n 80's listening to all genres of music and became a dj mainly in hip hop n RnB....with all that being said, I must acknowledge that Anne Wilson has one of the most powerful and talented voices PERIOD!!! The high notes, her tone are so on point and she makes it all look effortless and fun. Easily one of my top ten vocalists ALL TIME in any genre of Muisc!!!!
A barracuda is a predatory saltwater fish that stalks rather than hunts. They're incredibly fast, powerful and nasty fighters. Ann and Nancy Wilson wrote this song about one of their promoters that wanted to portray them as incestuous polyamorous lesbians, to basically refer to the promoter as a nasty, slimy, stalking predator. Also, Sisters harmonizing. No autotune, just incredible talent and Ann Wilson is still killing it in her 70s, she recently covered Layne Staley’s vocals on "Rooster" with Alice In Chains.
Great to see your smiling face again. Dunno if you have reacted to Kennedy honors ..Heat covering Led Zepplins Stairway to heaven...really good...BTW ANN is in her 60s covering this and bring tears to the bands eyes.
They were one of the bands at my first concert: Cal Jam 2 - Mar. 1978. I was 15yrs9mos and was there for about 27 hours. My brother disappeared around noon and I had to hitch-hike home to San Berdoo after 1am; whenever Aerosmith finished. I stood at the tunnel going underneath the track and shouted "anyone going to San Berdoo?" Only had to do that twice and got a response. Luckily, it turned out they lived just a few blocks from me. Oh, and my older brother spent the day in the medical tent. He went to get us something to drink before Santana took the stage and he had an asthma attack when attempting to return to where I was; for people crowding to get closer to the stage. Eventually, they got him an ambulance to get him to a hospital. My mom got a call regarding him, but then learned I was at the concert alone. Good Times
Watching Heart from five feet away from the stage is an incredible experience. That's what I was blessed with as a high school kid in 1975 or '76. Back then, Nancy wasn't as prominent as she would become and Ann played flute as well as her amazing vocals. ♥
Before you are finished with the music of Heart you must check out their cover of Led Zeppelin's "Battle of Evermore"! You will see a side of Ann and Nancy that you rarely see anywhere else!!
Funny you should mention Ann's confidence on stage. She's suffered from near crippling stage fright most of her life. She's done a great job managing it. Having Nancy there to check in with and help keep her from spiraling has been key
The Female Monsters of Rock! The two wemon have always been a driving force in Rock n Roll! Luv Anne's Powerful voice and Nancy is the boss on the guitar!! 🎸 Thanks for sharing Aileen ❤️💛
I was a six year old boy in 1979 when my older brother introduced me to Heart, and my life was forever changed. I fell in love with her just from hearing her voice. To this day, she is a goddess and force of nature who who put her boot straight through the door for all female rock and metal vocalists who followed her. I feel her voice in my soul. It was great seeing you feel it as well. Thanks for this.
If you want to see Nancy in action, find the live cut of "Crazy on You" and make sure you get the long version with the full guitar intro. You get to see Nancy shred the acoustic with an awesome guitar solo intro and then, of course, you get the full song "Crazy on you" following... definitely a great way to see Nancy in command...
I’ve been a fan of Heart my whole life and it’s great to see people discover and enjoy their music. But…. nobody seems to find “Tell it like it Is”. Check out the studio version for the most impressive vocals from Ann in any song. “Tell it like it Is” - it is jaw dropping!
Hi Aileen, great to be a new subscriber to your channel. Yeah, these Wilson sisters were and still are bad ass. I was a senior in high school when this song came out and I had just bought a 1969 Barracuda. I heard this song when I was leaving school driving to Connecticut to work. WTF, when I heard this song the first time. I locked the brakes up and skidded off the road before I ended up killing myself in that car. I shut it down and just listened. Oh my God how crazy is this. I was always a huge Heart fan. Anne stuttered when she was growing up as an Army brat.Their dad was very musically inclined and music was a centerpiece in their lives growing up. When their boyfriends were drafted to go the Vietnam War they left Seattle and moved to Vancouver to avoid going to Vietnam. Nancy was first to join a band with the Fisher boys. That's when Anne came aboard and the rest is history. Anne wrote this song in about 15 minutes after some record producer from Mushroom records claimed that Anne and Nancy were having a incestuous relationship. She was pissed. That's when she went back to the hotel room and wrote this song. Barracuda are notorious for being ambush predators and they strike very hard and fast. That's what Anne likened the record company to. A freaking nasty bunch of predatory people. Got my attention and those girls always will.
This was one of the hardest rocking songs of my teenage years. Heart was a staple of the charts and delivered song after inspiring song for years. Great musicians. Nice reaction, Senpai!
Yeah, Nancy Wilson was also sick during the recording for ‘These Dreams’, which gave her voice that raspy / gravelly sound that’s different from her normal vocals. Side note: Originally, Stevie Nicks was offered ‘These Dreams’ but expressed that she wasn’t interested in recording it.
My friend Alyssa so long ago said that she shared music with strangers because it made everyone feel less alone. We used to hang out in a crappy little karaoke bar on the wrong side of nowhere. But music made the difference. I'll never forget her kindness and I revisit that with these videos. I may never know you in person, but I share a joy with you. And I thank you.
Funny how you talk about her confidence on stage, because even though she puts out the vibe that she is confident, Ann actually at times suffered from crippling stage fright. Nancy has talked about times where she had to walk up to Ann and get practically nose to nose with her to snap her out of it mid-concert. I guess she learned to recognize the signs so she could snap Ann out of it before it became obvious to the audience.
the wilson sisters are so phenomenal. the song is iconic. so is their "alone", the great floor jansen coverd that one. the wilsons paved the way for women in rock. speaking of female power in rock/metal: if you ever decide to react to these phenomenal fantastic all female metal bands from japan, I´d suggest "lovebites - holy war live" and "hanabie - we love sweets". thank you for your great genuine reactions.
How have you never heard this before? It's legendary! 73 and 70 and still rocking out! That was top of the pops and the show forced them to lip-sync just like they did queen. Nancy doesnt get enough credit. Her guitar playing is out of this world and her voice is just as good as Anne's! My husband was in a band and they played this song a lot and it's very hard to play and sing.
I agree. Nancy doesn't get enough credit when her talent is just crazy. She sings some of their songs and flawlessly. Yah Top of the pops was a big thing back then and Freddy Mercury was ANGRY that they made them lip-sync
Here on RUclips their is a reviewer that goes by The Charismatic Voice she's an opera singer and voice coach who mentions how much control Ann has. Ann has/d a sweet higher voice but uses her diaphram as a resonance chamber then listening and analizing her consenant and vowel sentence structure with her control of her throat and tongue she not only controls her pitch she can belt out without have to scream using mostly her throat. And she might have something .I've seen Heart in concert and Ann kept her strength and range from start to finish where when I saw Aerosmith in concert Steven Tyler was pretty raspy towards the end.
They always have managed to transform their music through the decades and stay true. They've never lost their identity and stayed nevertheless successful. Great band ❤️
I've been loving Ann Wilson since 1970s - she's recently climbed up my greatest rock singers of all time list - to sharing my number one spot with Robert Plant! If I broaden that category to pop music of the last 100 years - she's in my top five for sure - but, I put another woman ahead of her: check out the amazing Ella Fitzgerald, who is currently my favorite singer of all time in any genre.
Yet another fine reaction. You might want to listen to "Don't Tell Me," a duet with Ann Wilson and David Draiman of Disturbed. At 73 years old, she may not have the register she had on earlier hits but her voice still cuts through beautifully.
I saw them 47 years ago on their "Little Queen" tour. It was August 16th 1977, the day Elvis died. We found out while waiting outside to go in the arena. Somebody had transistor radio, pre internet days. To close out their set they did Zeppelin's "Rock and Roll" and dedicated it to the King. Another great song from that night is "Crazy on You", with Nancy's amazing guitar intro, here's one from around the same time. ruclips.net/video/qVcl0Iw3fs8/видео.htmlsi=9sCXZHVh6pqrsbEG
I agree that "Magic Man," if you've not done it before, should be next. Other songs might be "Dog and Butterfly," "Alone" (to throw a power ballad in), and maybe "Straight On."
I appreciate your love of Heart. When I was in the Marines the sisters and their band were always wanted. That was in the 70s with the grunts and we loved pure talent and beauty. Thanks for the memories. Semper Fi from the old days and your response is perfect. Thank you.
The Wilson sisters was my first love, lol. I had heard Alice Cooper (live) and heard some Jethro Tull by the time I was 4 or 5. After that it was these ladies & KISS. Until Van Halen changed the game with Boston, Lynyrd Skynyrd was about all I had heard by 10 or 11. I didn't really get into Zeppelin until college, but I sure found why I loved Heart so much after that. They had their MTV poppy era, but they were always fantastic. Today I enjoy an eclectic music collection and love for great music thanks to these two ladies right here. Rush really helped and Pink Floyd after that. I lived through the "golden age" of music IMO. Journey, The Police, ZZ Top, Yes, REO Speedwagon, Cheap Trick, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Missing Persons, Billy Squier, Skid Row, Guns & Roses, CheVelle, The Cult, The Eagles, The Cure, Metallica all and many more I got to see live & in their prime.
Love this song Ann Wilson is a incredible performer Crazy on You is another one that I like but my all time favorite is Magic Man the guitar work in that song is awesome her sister is equally talented as well
That's not quite true. Robert Plant stated that the tears he had were from watching Jason Bonham drum. Robert and John Bonham were best friends, and the bowler hats worn were a tribute to Bonzo, coz he always wore hats. Yes it is,a stirring performance, but the emotions of missing John and seeing Jason perform his father's drumming is what brought those tears. This us what Plant himself is quoted as saying on many platforms
Oh for sure but he sees Jason Bonham drum regularly. No other band could have done that song with Jason besides the Zep and Robert Plant be moved to that extent. The band doesn't even LIKE the song Stairway to Heaven. Page was absolutely rocking out and you could even see him say "Wow" after singing the notes to himself during the solo because it was NAILED
@@neilpatrickhairless also, Zeppelin asked Jason to attend the gala, but Jason told them he had a prior commitment. They had no idea he was gonna perform
August 1st 2024...Heart, right here in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. I got my tickets IMMEDIATELY! Looking forward to that show, Cheap Trick will be opening up. Ann recently did a duet with David Draiman(Disturbed) "Don't Tell Me". GREAT song. At 73 years old(she'll be 74 by the time I see the show), she's still got the pipes! 🤘🤘🤘
Welcome back! So wonderful to see your beautiful self back making reactions. You have no idea how much your vulnerability and musical knowledge fills my loving cup and makes my soul happy!
I saw these lovely ladies in concert in 1982 (I was 20 at the time). I managed to squeeze myself up to the front of the stage, was only 10 feet from them (back then you could get really close) and on the side of the stage where Nancy was. I'm 6'2" so I was a bit more noticeable in the crowd. While Nancy was playing I managed to wave at her....she smiled and kissed at me! I've been in love with her ever since. Just don't tell my wife. LOL!!
Whoa, I'm looking at the LP cover of the LP this song was on "Little Queen"..And doggone, I see at least 5 of 'em wearing the same outfits as the photo shot! 6:31-Boy that drummer had a big sound..Note he's got a kettle drum as a lead tom to kick of his fills with. Still an azz-kicker of a song today, I knew you'd enjoy it!
You should react to the cover of this from the band PLUSH! I saw them in Kansas City with falling in reverse and disturbed and they were awesome and executed this song to perfection 🤘🔥❤️
FANTASTIC SONG OFF A FANTASTIC ALBUM. i love this jam. Cool video too. Oldie but goodie here. . Great guitar work and guitar solo and guitar sound. . HEART rocks. . . CRANK IT UP LOUD. HORNS UP 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Yes ,Heart has a bunch of cool tunes . If you want other female singers , nobody knows of Candy Givins from the band ZEPHYR , with an 18 year old Tommy Bolin on guitar , I can't wait until you check out Hard Charging Woman !
These ladies are still out there kicking a** - they're doing a festival this summer sandwiched between Mr. Bungle and Tool! 😂 Everybody will have their suggestions, but I will always advocate for the stuff more off the beaten path-try "Mistral Wind" live from the Greatest Hits/Live album (the one with Ann wearing a striped jacket on the cover) "Bad Animals" "The Night", "Black On Black II" and their song with Layne Staley "Ring Them Bells".
Both Ann and Nancy are talented! My favorite song is Crazy on You, but you can pretty much pick anything they have done. Nancy is a great singer also as heard in their son These Dreams, she actually recoded this when under the weather. Also a great song where you can see both their talent is Live in Seattle and the song Dog and the Butterfly, just tow beautiful talented women, their voices, and 2 guitars!
No one could, can or ever will have her combination of range, power, vibrato, dynamics, phrasing, and then can go from nuclear powerful to satin sheets soft. Absolutely AMAZING!
AileenSenpai, this is the album version you are hearing, cut to live footage. Having seen them twice, they pull it off perfectly when live, but just letting you know you heard the studio version if someone were to request it. Speaking of studio version - please hear "Mistral Wind" from the record. It's my favorite and you will love it!
You say you're obsessed. I'm thinking, "YES!! That's it exactly! That voice, that voice... Damn!" I've always loved that powerful voice of hers. & the rest of the music is great, too! I was lucky enough to see them in concert about twenty years agoin sw Washington & loved 'em.
Fun Fact: Ann & Nancy Wilson are sisters, they wrote this song as an angry response to their record label spreading false scandalous rumors about them, saying that Ann & Nancy were secretly lovers (which obviously wasn't true) just as a marketing ploy to increase album sales. That just made this song so much better!
Ann Wilson doesn't take shit from anybody. This song is metal af
Absolutely right. Heard Ann talk about it in an interview. And hence lyrics such as this:
No right, no wrong you're selling a song, a name

I have so crushed on these two power musicians (in a healthy way) for the last 47 years or so.
Ann & Nancy ft. Linkin Park have muss to See. Performing Castle of Glass. It is Magic
its a fuqed up fact, mushroom records did'nt last long after that
Ann Wilson is simply one of the greatest female rock voices ever. You called it, GOLD!!
Greatest rock voices, period.

I wanted to say that as well; no need to add "female" to that statement. Ann Wilson is one of the greatest to ever do it, male or female.

Heart is incredible and can just rock out and turn around and do a mellow song they are an amazing band!! 🎸🥰
And is featured on Disturbed's Don't Tell Me. Kills it
They did the same thing to Tegan and Sara many years later. Canada has weird shit going on involving young women dude
thank you for copying and pasting
Also an awesome car in the 70's too
Magic man, straight on and Crazy on You (studio version) are powerful examples of how badass they are. Keep ‘em coming lady! ❤️🔥🤘🏾

Heart and Foreigner were two 70's bands that translated really well over to the 80's because both bands 80's tunes were certified bangers
FYI - Heart will be on tour in the USA in April to May 2024... it will be Ann Wilson & Nancy Wilson only from the original band w/ session players.
Love this song Ann Wilson is a incredible performer Crazy on You is another one that I like but my all time favorite is Magic Man the guitar work in that song is awesome her sister is equally talented as well
She made Robert Plant cry with their rendition of Stairway to Heaven.
@@kenkonwick6660that moment doesn't happen if the performance wasn't what it was. both things can be true.
But yes, Plant was absolutely thinking about Bonham, you could see it the entire time Jason was on stage. The old dude was time travelling
@@neilpatrickhairless also, Zeppelin asked Jason to attend the gala, but Jason told them he had a prior commitment. They had no idea he was gonna perform
Ann Wilson has an unbelievable voice!! 1 of a kind for sure!!
I love seeing how excited you got by this song! This song is AMAZING!
*Straight On* has one of the most powerful vocal starts I’ve ever heard. Also their version of *Tell It Like It Is* is top notch stuff
The porpoise mentioned twice in the song is Nancy’s nickname.
The best singer ..period...in rock music
Glad your back you need to watch Heart live in Seattle These Dreams Nancy can sing herself you will like it
Welcome back!
LOL!!
Came out 7-8 years before I born, but total CLASSIC!!!! Powerful voice!!
The live sound that goes with this instead of the studio dubbing is sweet as well.
Check out the song" Kick it out"with the foo fighters. On David letterman. Rocks.
No one could, can or ever will have her combination of range, power, vibrato, dynamics, phrasing, and then can go from nuclear powerful to satin sheets soft. Absolutely AMAZING!
Ann and Nancy both are rock goddesses. Both are powerful singers and instrument players.
I’m obsessed with Eagles “try to love again”, it’s rent free in my head…
❤❤ your passion in this video is so awesome 💯 love it .. such a great band reviewed by a great person 👍
