    Dustin, your tutorials are eye opening. Especially appreciated the post-production tweaks you showed in this one. I also get a bit of a thrill at knowing there are legions of keyboard photographers that have zero reason to complain about not doing quality work because you show how it can be done with a kit lens, 50-dollar speedlights, and an IKEA lampshade.

    well, as a 5 year photo student I cringe at that tutorial. This method might be easy and things, and are great for a line of products, that need to be the same, but for a real product image, the light is just to flat. 2 or 3 more flashes without softboxes and a few black pieces of cardboard, and you could make this image much better.

      Yes definitely needs some more reflection on the metal to make it look shiny. Would be good to see a tutorial using some black reflectors and less diffused lighting.

    Tuve muchos asistentes en mí estudio de fotografía, incluso alumnos, y todos ellos incluso en sus comienzos fueron personas rigurosas con su sentido de la profesión, rigurosidad profesional e intelectual en todo sentido de la palabra, virtudes que este niño no tiene

    For color variants, digital colorization, I shoot the second variant, load that image, then extract the color value. Then I use the same technique in the video. I use gimp, so they have a colorize adjustment and load in that color. Surprisingly not all silvery metallics are desaturated, only chrome is. Nickel, and most common grey metals have a touch of yellow. Hue 50, sat 5. All my photos I shoot with a white balance cap for some sort of fidelity.

    Your how-to videos are always creative and witty. Fun and educational. I don't know whether you want to develop a full-time career out of product photography, but I have a feeling that you will be very successful at ANYTHING you do. BTW, what would you do if Broncolor decided to dump $30,000 of strobe equipment on you, like they probably did with Karl Taylor. Would you still continue with your no-nonsense approach, or would you cross over to the Dark Side?

    • @workphlo
      @workphlo  6 лет назад

      Thoroughly enjoyed your comment, thanks for writing that! I thought a long while about your Broncolor question, and I have to say it would be super tempting to sell out -- but I think I would keep rocking with minimal gear! Have a great day (-:

    Dear Dustin, what would be the best diaphragm and aperture settings with a nikon d90 with a nikkor micro 40 mm AF-S lens, for product photography such as watches and jewelry?

    • @workphlo
      @workphlo  5 лет назад

      I only use a d5100 & kits lens - so my settings are f/13 ISO100 1/200 for my max sync speed with a Yongnuo 560-III. Your settings will differ though!

    Hi Dustin, just tried to shoot with the melody but i have my camera reflected on the glass of the watch, how you avoid these reflections? Thx in advance!!

    • @workphlo
      @workphlo  5 лет назад

      When you look perfectly down, it makes sense you will flatly reflect the dark absence of light in the melodi opening. I like adjusting my angle subtly so that it doesn't reflect the dark spot, but it is indeed tricky to maneuver it flatteringly at times. Best of luck

    • @FrisodenBoer
      @FrisodenBoer 4 года назад

      @@workphlo Hi, Thanks for the great tutorial... however the reflection is killing me :-) . when shooting straight down the black opening is too visible. I could try and photoshop this out, but that will take me too long. The watch has curvature (vertically) in the glass and that makes it even more difficult. Any tips.

    Hey buddy, thanks for the video you are really good! anyway i have notice some "mistakes" but i believe there were just cos you did the editing in rush for the video. . I know some shortcut that you hadn't (or hans't??) use for the selection. I try to explain me better. When you do a selection with the pen, instead to go to "Path" click on it and blablabla you gotta just click CMD+D and you got the selection. Then it was useless to clip the mask in order to rotate the clock you could just move the center of the transform selection. I don't know if you understand me as my english it's not that good and if i sound rude i apologize it wasn't on purpose, i like your video and i like to help you as you are helping me. If you don't understand what im saying text me i'll try to explain again. Cheers.
