Dustin, I am curious about the mouse you show at the beginning of your video on your desk. What type of a mouse it this? I am most curious. Thanks kepe up the good work, love all the knowledge you share.
Eric, this is an inexpensive $20 mouse I bought off Amazon! Wish I had the link handy and I'd share it with you, though a little searching will turn it up! Take care
I love how you take the ordinary and make extraordinary! Excellent tutorial! Thank you for taking the time to do what you do. Your work is inspiring.
Phillip, thanks! I enjoy the process very much. Appreciate you viewing.
Please dont forget serial number reflection :)
I was waiting for someone to comment that. ;)
Your video is the most sourceful tutorial on product photography. I love your work, and the way you explain is easy to understand. And you ask about our opinion as viewer is the nice gesture that you have good attitude as a teacher. You and youre channel are gonna be great, i believe it. Keep it up :)
Sotya, thank-you very much for your very kind words! I appreciate the feedback. We will keep it up, cheers!
Sotya Adira was just gonna day that lol
Hi, can you tell what adaptor used to put the plexiglass plate and how did you made stable it? Thanks.
Hi there, we custom made this to be shaped like two Football Endzone Uprights
Hey Dustin. Love your videos. Where can I find the tripod “table” that you use?
Google baby wall plate
Can you do a supper beginner video on how the speed lights work? How to set it up so that it goes off with the camera's shutter... basically how do you set it up from a technical standpoint? Your videos are great!
That would be a great idea, I will do it! Thanks Jeovany
One more quick question if I may. Could you please show us how you got the splashes? These really added to your final product shots, and would be a great video for you to produce.
Great idea! I'll make a video exploring this in more depth -- maybe creating a splash catalog. Here, I just used a small bowl and threw the water fairly straight up! :-)

i love your job. i wish if you can shoot a smartphone
I will do that !
I was wondering if there is a place for HDR in product photography. I have never done it but was wondering if it is used.
Paul Sicurello Glad you watched our video Paul, thanks!
Hello . how to mount plexiglass to a tripod? . I was looking for a solution but without success. I'm sure it is very easy, but I do not know how to do it
In my speedlight beauty care episode, you can see how it is attached with a nut. We actually had this rigged up with a custom weld!
Hello again
I was watching the video over and over. One question come up. Why you used a diffuser when you can reduce the flash power ??? Thanks
you're the bob ross of product photos. love the channel.
Man I get thrills when people say that, cheers Mike!
Why not chemically remove the back bottle content before shooting? there are plenty of solvents, while unhealthy, that will easily remove the ink, and then you clean the surface with alcohol or window cleaner and the problem is gone.
Thank you Dustin, that was truly amazing to watch, loved it. Two things I would like to see are more composites with just 1 light and how would you go by doing a more professional oriented work (since what you called in this video something thrown together just for a tutorial ended looking so good). Thanks again, and Merry Christmas and a happy new year to you !
Bruno thanks so much! Hope you had a great Christmas, and I wish you a joyous New Year! Thank-you for the suggestions, a lot of solid content in the works. :)
With the orange soap the splash at the pump on the left is driving me crazy as there is no lead splash to give it a reason to be there... maybe just me but I’m a bit OCD..
just another awesome video dear, especially with new way that you explained every step. hope you can explain the best way to save images for FB to avoid any loss of sharpness. Thanks and merry christmas bro
Muneer! Great to see a familiar face. Thank-you for much, I had a wonderful Christmas. I will look into those Facebook render settings, it is a great area of interest! All the best, Happy New Year!
Excellent tutorial. You have a new subscriber. Thank you for sharing.
Thank-you so much for joining the party! Looking forward to releasing more content :)
Good work, but you forgot to remove the serial number in the reflection ...
Isn't it ironic? Thanks for watching
Some of my clients give me the products without a back label and for the others I remove them, Thanks for the video.
That's great! Some of those baked on back labels can be real tricky.
This was an excellent video. Very helpful to see how you shoot and process the images.
Steve Bikes Steve, so glad our video was useful! Stay tuned
Next time, do how to photograph products on black :o
Your use of words is funny
I don't disagree with you, but how so? :)
Great video! I really like how you take the product through the stages of photography and post-processing.
Cheers! It was a fun episode to make
fuck yeah, solid great content
My workflow for watching your videos: click the video > like the video > watch the video > like the video again but it doesn't count because it's already liked but I still try in case RUclips implements some kind of 'double-like' feature one day.
I love that worphlo! Thanks for watching
Why is the flash on the right facing away from the subj3ect, but the flash on the left is facing towards it?
They are facing towards the camera (the stripboxes) so the gradients direction is towards the middle of the lable. If you went the other way, the gradients would be reversed.
Hi! Can you share the type of lens used for this shot?
I used a cheap kit lens! The one that comes with most cameras 18-55 or 18-105 f/5.6
@@workphlo Thank you for the info! The shot looks great!
I'll try this and tag you on instagram. Thank you for this detailed tutorial.
Would love to see what you're creating! Tag us @workphlo or #workphlo
Just discovered you. Really great work! Perhaps it was for time, but don't forget to remove the serial number in the reflection, too. I do mostly portrait work, but looking to expand into product work, as well. You and Karl Taylor are my go to for expanding my knowledge. Karl Taylor and you should link up. If you're in the New York area, hit me up on Facebook. Jason Riley Hoss Photography.
Cheers Mate, noticed that one once I uploaded of course... lol. Karl Taylor is a great inspiration! I would be all over that possibility, but I think he may be a few leagues above me ;)
Very good video. Thank you a lot for that. One small thing is the serial number reflection at 15:10 :)
Yes I see that now, thanks!
New question!! Is the plexi was cleaned by special material to not collecting dust?? It looked clean all the time, any ideas
Great question! I actually just really thoroughly wipe it before filming and then blast it with the dust-blower before we go live!
The dust blower is part of this Cleaning Kit:
CAN: amzn.to/2xR81zk
US: amzn.to/2fDqyFH
UK: amzn.to/2yhyyrj
There are silicone anti static cleaners that work well.
good point ^
Google Brillianize.
Thanks for your vids, Dustin. A lot of your videos seem to be highly reflective surfaces (no complaints). I would love to see some cardboard packaging or mixed surfaces. I'm digging your tutorial style and subscribed to help your analytics. Lol
Great points! Thanks for watching Jonathan, I'm going to shoot some more diverse product asap. Lmao thanks for the analytics boost brother, I seriously appreciate that! Cheers
Great video. Subscribed.
Rightful Hare thanks! Cheers
Awesome video and tutorial on both shooting and editing as always Dustin! Really enjoyed watching you work again and I hope you have a fantastic Christmas with your friends and family 🎅🙂 Nick
Nick, thanks so much! Hope you had a wonderful Christmas, and a killer New year pal! Cheers
Awesome work again. Question. Would removing the back label be a big no no? Seems like could be a quick fix.
Great question, you're right it would be a quick fix. The ethics of modifying a product for aesthetics has always been an interesting topic. Personally, I think it would be fine and look great (-:
workphlo funnily enough I have watched this back a couple of times and come to appreciate the added interest the rear label provides. Not saying I would prefer it without it just that it looks natural.
While filming this episode and looking at the rear-label so much, I actually started to not notice it myself, it does naturally kind of just sit back there. Then when I uploaded I kind of took a step-back and wondered -- was this an oversight? Lol, glad to hear it doesn't bother too much! Thanks again for watching!
Great video again Dustin. Many thanks for uploading. Looking forward to even more in the new year. Merry Christmas to you and your family and have a Happy New Year.
Chris Parry Merry Christmas!
Brilliant Video this will help me a lot
I love hearing when the videos are helpful! Take care, and thanks for tuning in.
awesome video as always, compositing really is fun and the result shows! thanks for your videos!
Siddharth, thank-you very much!
Your videos are awesome!Been watching them alot lately. You don't use fancy equipments and that's helpful for me😄😄And you go straight to the point😊I am definitely in the 20% who subscribe😁
Love it, thank you!
Another good exercise and education. You told us to remember the reflection (on the orange) but you didn't remember the reflected serial number ;-)
Yup! haha
Great job Dustin. In order to avoid too many try-error shoots, which is my main headache, do you do some kind ok liveview or tethering to a bigger screen to se how lighting changes affect the image? Not that important with flashes but when using studio flashes with continuous lights which is my case. If so, what option are you using? Thanks for showing your great tuts.
Xavi
Hey Xavi! Thank-you. Yes, this is very important - we tether to a nice big mac screen and zoom in and judge every little bit of the image.
Your skill is unparalleled ! Using simple objects and making them look beautiful ! Thanks a lot for these tutorials !
That is deep, thank you
What if we use bigger stripboxes instead of adding diffusers in front ? Will the result be simillar ?
Hardik Hasija Yes, diffusion panels help cast a gradient, but you can reproduce the size of the highlights
Very very cool. Thanks. You inspire me the way you work.
Happy to hear that! Thank you greatly. Consider subscribing my friend Robert.
Really enjoyed this video!!!
Cheers! Always appreciate the feedback
Hi Dustin, I take shots on pure white with my camera's highlight warning turned on. When I shoot, the background is pure white/blown out, but when I put the same image in LR or PS 2018 CC, the bg isn't white, if I turn up the whites, the products' color is effected. Have to use selection/pen tool to separate my product from the bg and pull the whites up all the way. I've recently turned to catalog white product photography but have general photography experience of 6 years almost. Now I have 500-700 products to shoot and this is really hindering my workphlo. Any tips please?
Thanks for tips. I was about to start taking photos of soap bottles so this is perfect reference. Just subscribed also to your you tube!
Thanks for the sub!
I´m just in love with your videos! You just explain and simplify everything in a way it´s so freaking easy to digest :) I´m trying to make my way into Product Photography, but I´m not and expert (or even near) in editing...Is there any book you would recommend me about photoshop editing? Is there anything that has a focus on product photography? It´s the area where I feel I´m way behind, so I´m really trying to get a book (Light, science and magic was a bless for me in terms of lighting) to catch up and lear more...thanks for all your videos! :)
Great work ! Really love it.
Wow, thank-you very much. All the best in the New Year! I appreciate your viewership.
hi there, may i know how u do the water splash effect?
Hello Ariel, I used a bowl and threw the splash straight up. Though there are many different techniques for this kind of product photography, I encourage you to play around with the liquids and explore what works best!
workphlo thank you for the replied, I have subscribe ur video
another wonderful product photography course :)
loved your videos! sample and works well!
Thank you Yuqiong Lee, I appreciate you watching our videos and finding them of use. Please do subscribe!
Excellent as always!
Nicholas, I appreciate you leaving a comment! Thank-you and have a great New Year!
Fantastic
Great work! But: I would remove the ugly back label too ... ;)
Amazing video Thanks very inspiring
Cheers Martin, glad you found our tutorial for lighten mode!
Luck to find this channel bro and subbed

What is hold the Plexiglass Surface to the stand?
here we explain ruclips.net/video/fxxsCCDpJs0/видео.html 👍
Can't believe I've sat here for this long watching your videos! They're just sooo good!!
You earned yourself a sub
Thanks for subscribing!
@@workphlo my pleasure!
What about the table under the plexiglass? Can you write a link to the item?
I just bought my first dslr camera so this is so beyond anything in the realm of possibility for me to do right now but it’s so fascinating to watch! I’ll never look at another face wash ad the same again lol.
You left the serial number in the reflection
Yes sir I did :o
How much can you charge a customer for work like this?
Thanks :)
You're welcome.
What are you using as a table for the product ?
Here is a video where we explain the table: ruclips.net/video/fxxsCCDpJs0/видео.html Thanks for watching. 👍
You’re a master, thanks for share !!
Strong words, thank-you kindly Fran
You are awesome, just keep going!
Thank-you so much, I love making these videos and I will keep going.
You’re a godsend!
Jake Perry strong words, thx very much!
Nice one as always Dustin!
Thank-you! Have a fantastic New Year, looking forward to a productive 2018.
Could you please make s post production episode with layers, composition etc?
Hey there! Of course, but could you elaborate? I included the post composition at the end of this episode
workphlo sure... I'm familiar with video editing software, but I never use photoshop/afinity. I understand it's probably basic, simple stuff but I would really appreciate a few min vid explaining exactly what and how you are doing. How to copy background to sides of the subject (wine bottle vid). Why create so many layers etc. Explain it like you would talk to someone who have never used ps or a chimp 😉
Ok! I totally understand where you're coming from -- I will craft a great episode in the near future addressing this! (-:
workphlo thanks a lot. Looking forward to it
Merry Christmas Dustin! Great video as always. One thing I'm having trouble with is lining everything up in Photoshop. I have two sheets of plywood over my carpet to give me a more solid floor and to prevent ripping my paper backdrop, but I notice that everything moves slightly when I change the position of a light or diffuser. I tried aligning the images in Photoshop, but I'm getting some distortion when I do that. Is the only option to rip out the carpet?
Good question Bruce! Do you have a fairly decent tripod?
You may have noticed I love going low-cost -- though a tripod is the one area I invested in and bought a solid manfrotto, which I find helps reduce movement. Other than that, I find the key is to take all of your exposures AGAIN at the end in tandem, after "rehearsing/experimenting" with everything you will need.
Then at the end, I make sure to make any movements as subtle as possible! Best of luck, Merry Christmas!

Thanks for nice video and good tips!
