  • We installed a Pilot Rock A series 20 inch park model grill permanently in our yard. It does an amazing job and it's fun to cook on. Here's a few additions to help make it even more enjoyable.

I've always wanted one of those park grills. I really like the mods you did with it as well. Very thought out, including the lid you made! That light is very handy. Those wings looked spot on! I'm wondering if I could take my MMM grill and make a more permanent grill set up similar to this. That's a really nice set up you have Loaderman!

Thanks Rus, They are fun to cook on. I bet you could easily mount the MMM in a steel box the same way the grate is in the Pilot Rock.

The expanded metal is a great idea! I might do the same thing and roll up the front edge about 1/2", to keep the hot dogs from rolling off. In fact, I may cut out all the inner bars and weld the expanded metal into the frame of the cooking grill. Hmmm....
One of the things I love to do with these grills is cook over hickory and mesquite kindling. It adds a taste that charcoal doesn't seem to have.
In any case, great tips in this video. NEED ME SOME WINGS!

Do you add more charcoal as you go? Or does what you have in there enough for a long time ?

Mostly lasts long enough, but add a few extra sometimes. Thanks for watching.

I am thinking about buying one of these. How do you keep yours looking so good? Do you keep it covered when not in use?

I don't cover it. After every use and this is important clean out the ashes and rinse with a water. Also keep a can of high heat black paint to touch up rusty places if needed. That's it. It will last a lifetime.

Awesome! I will be adding this to my backyard grill arsenal soon! I can't wait! I will be using it for my jerk chicken and will make a simple mod of having a cover too

I have a pilot too. Love it! Just installed a new one last weekend. I also thought it would last a life time. Had my first one 7 years ago. I have soon found out that not taking care of it was my down fall. Now with the second grill I'm putting down tinfoil under the charcoal. The left over ash eats the metal. Going to start using a disposable tin pan that fits perfectly in grill to burn charcoal in. Hopefully that will make it a lifetime grill.

These grills should last a lifetime. Leaving ashes in any carbon metal grill is a quick demise. ashes plus moisture creates Lye which is very corrosive. Always after every cook remove all ash. Thanks for the comment. 👍😎

Yeah, I had a similar thing happen, and it might have to do with the ashes getting moist. The disposable pan idea is great!
