    Good for you getting out and grilling on a public grill. Its one of my favorite things to do. Here's a tip, you can just throw the match light charcoal bag into the grill and light the bag. That way you don't have trash and you keep your hands clean. Looking pro with the gloves. Thats a pro move.

    they're meant to be seasoned. drop the grill closer into the fire, constantly coat with crisco. you get a nice shiny luster to the cast iron grate and it will leave epic grill marks on steaks.

      I think him rubbing the mayonnaise, that had a flavoring to it, accomplishes the seasoning and coating with crisco concept you’re talking about? Both have fat? I was wondering why he did that, but looks like rubbing sausage in fat is a thing. I’ll have to try.

    I'm old school. I get the charcoal hotter than hell itself, lower the grate down to fire level for about 5-10 minutes and let whatever was on there turn to ash, raise it up and cook.
    I've had once or twice where I forgot the stupid charcoal, spent 20 minutes gathering up twigs, dried branches, threw it in there with paper, lighter fluid and it worked great for thick chicken breasts.

    I bought this as my first propane grill. It's been a fun, learning experience ruclips.net/user/postUgkxCx5fHawkK9OoV-ojFrY8JLnZrFwAmvUt . I think it's a bit too pricey after looking at other grills, but it wasn't hard to put together and it works really well. I love the side burner option for heating food during a power outage. I have an electric stove and live in the South (Hurricane season), so this was a bonus. I also bought a cover for it and it has protected it nicely (the Char Broil All-Season Grill Cover 3-4 Burner: Large). Every few grill sessions, I take the rack (or grate) and burner covers off and clean them with a non-abrasive scrubby and mild soap. I wipe the excess off of the bottom as well, taking care to avoid the gas and pilot lines.

    • @santiagorivera1562
      @santiagorivera1562 2 года назад +18

      It's just rust, which is non-toxic in small amounts. If you clean the grate with an onion and a grill brush, hard, then you will have removed enough of the rust to where it would be completely safe to have all kinds of food on there. Only other 2 concerns are if people are burning plastics, scraps, or metals on the grill, and if anything they spray on the lawns gets onto the grill. Both of these are highly unlikely, but even then, taking a metal scraper and cleaning out where the charcoal sits, as well as cleaning the grates themselves would remove enough of anything toxic. Make sure to clean the grates again when they've heated up, just before you put the food on them. I guess if you're really that worried about the grates, you can take a piece of cheese cloth, coat it in vinegar and water, and rub the hell out of the grates. Just use common sense. If this is a park where teenagers go at night to smoke, or where homeless people sleep, someone is burning something in those grates that's not food lol, so maybe avoid using those grills to cook. If you're at a national park or state park, wildlife refuge, or the like, then it's 99% you have nothing to worry about.

      depending on how much ash. too much leftover ash will suffocate the new charcoal. but in this video there was very minimal so it’s not worth the potential mess. but in other cases yes! definitely clean the bottom if it’s full of ash.

    1. Avoid the match light, it may give your food a nasty lighter fluid taste. I recommend B&B charcoal briquettes.
    2. Invest in a charcoal chimney starter, good way to make sure your coals are hot and ready for cooking .

    Thanks for your take on this. I only know a few cooks who use Mayo to fry with and it’s nice to see someone doing it. Dukes is really the best for that, but it’s kind of a southern brand. You can find it online, though. There’s a few better ways of cleaning the grill. Rubbing half an onion or lemon on a hot grill will kill the bacteria. I like to use Rock salt in a natural scoring pad as it’s great at removing rust and then rub with a half onion.
    Get or make a coal rake, it’s important to spread the coals evenly. Also use an oil brush or sauce mop to continuously spread the Mayo on as it cooks. I hope you make another video using the tips the peanut gallery spewed at you.

    There is no way I’m putting anything directly on that dirty grill! All the bacteria from old food stuck on there, and bird poop. Eww. Use foil.

      Charcoal gets hot, it thermally sanitizes the grates, plus the steel wool cleans them off.
